Please shut up and stop showing the world you are lawless and perhaps even a dishonest blogger or Yahooze. If you don't use social media fraudulently and are ready to stand accountable for what you put online, so far as it is not falsehood or overt manipulation of the truth for your own agenda, then you have nothing to worry about.

Don't come her talking as if only Politicians will benefit from this bill. It will protect more ordinary Nigerians in my opinion to include yourself. If someone puts your full name online claiming you robbed their shop, when this is a deliberate and malicious lie, should they not be punished for defaming your character and attracting negative reactions toward you?

Oga defamation of character already exists na.

You are the fool. A very ignorant one to boot. The nations you all want to run to and laud as bastions of development, like the UK and USA, have strict rules and regulations in place concerning use of social media. For Nigeria to be unsupervised, with anyone able to say what they want online, when such is offensive and even dangerous to others, is not a way forward. Anything from the Government and you m0r0ns just begin to shout like mad inmates of an asylum without inspecting the benefits of what is suggested.

Is it not UK that jailed a white man who used social media to racially mock a black footballer( Patrice Muamba) who had a heart attack on the pitch while playing football? The character was tracked with his IP address, prosecuted successfully and sent to jail. That is the sort of development that shows some form of regulation must be in place. It is not `rocket science abeg. It is like society at large. Take out police and would London and New York not become lawless with 2 hours? Why should social media then have no regulation when some can use it very dangerously?

Can you proof such rule in the US/UK

Burkina Faso and Kenya already have laws in place to deal with fake news. You need to stop pushing the despot angle cuz. Laws to deal with misinformation on social media are inevitable.

If I recall correctly, you are one of those emotional jokers who always gets it wrong 100% of the time and I will resurrect this thread when your superman and areafada Abaribe is able to do nada to prevent the passage of this bill into law.

lol..the problem with passing the bill,as we have seen with the likes of sowore, is that people at the top will always interpret the law as they deem fit, rather than how the law is supposed to be...
and u using Singapore,Burkina-Faso as examples to follow is hideously hilarious...

[s][/s] Nigeria is probably the only country in the world with such useless, anti-people bill. While other countries are going about tackling the social media giants, from Facebook to whatsapp against the menace of fake news, Nigeria would rather shut her citizens up. You only see such from a zoo, a "country" ruled by animals.

Nonsense.

Argument out of ignorance. Shior!

Similar laws abound in many developed countries, including uSA.

You live in the corruption capital of the world and a lawless jungle were court orders means nothing and are disobeyed. And you think this bill is meant for the masses?
It is meant to protect the fantastically corrupt bandits ruling the country.
I'm so much in support of your comment. This draconian bill is not meant for the masses, it's meant to restrict and trampled on the rights, freedoms and privileges of the masses. I mean this is something we should all really worry about. There is no Freedom of speech anymore if this should go into law.

May God help us all from this tyrannical administration. Amen

I guess u are one of those that always tend to believe whatever this administration puts out....
As long as u are in power, there must be critics from opposition & masses especially when the government are failing woefully, the best you can do is to prove them wrong not by using your position in power as a weapon of suppression and oppression

Buhari said wayyyyy more than anybody before he became president,

The problem with people like you is you think freedom is free, Abiola, Kudirat, and thousands of other Nigerians had to die before we had the chance to speak openly without being picked up early in the morning. You are probably too young to know all these.

How many elites have actually gone to jail for ANYTHING, you see them daily with their SAN's, wheelchair and bandages, at the end none of them goes to jail and if you join APC then it's all good, while the stupid northerners voted to get their hands chopped off for petty theft.

You sound like Buhari is a baby that needs you peeps to defend him, the man is an ex general! when did airing your opinion become illegal? Did FFK carry a gun to threaten him? When Obj talked about the snipers from Israel what happened? Who would fight for all the masses killed by overzealous cops?

Social media has never never stolen money, neither has it taken 1mw from the grid.

An average Nigerian would make a bad leader, he has a very deep need to oppress others, perhaps he has been soooo oppressed by the system he protects

Trump co-chair wishes death on Obama, calls 1st lady male - News 12 The Bronx

Oshigun:

I did not support hanging anyone for anything. Get your facts right. That will never happen anyway. FFK saying the Buhari Government has killed Kanu and are holding his body offshore on a ship is not hurtful to anyone ba? FFK claiming Buhari has died abroad and even daring to tweet that as reproduced below is annoying to 'ego of small men' only?

https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/wishing-buhari-dead.html

What would people like you have Nigeria become? A joke nation any lunatic can just say what they want ,however inciting or dangerously incendiary such is, with no repercussion at all to serve as a deterrent for such irresponsible behaviour? Would FFK and co, year in and year out, have continued with their many lies, clearly intended to cause trouble for the Government of the day, if robust and punitive laws exist that stops them getting away with doing that?

Is that then supposed to be a plus or negative for the SE? I blame the Government for never getting their PR right to state clearly what initiatives they move for will entail. That is what always enable some to come here with their cheap scaremongering and hatred against anything related to the Government.

Singapore has passed the same bill into law on 02 October 2019 and many nations will too as it is inevitable since in is now universally agreed that 'fake news' and its dissemination on social media is very dangerous. Anyone who wants to banish ignorance should read the Singapore version of the bill we are seeking to pass, as that of Nigeria will virtually be identical, to note it is not beneficial to leaders alone.

Mr man, stop mentioning Singapore when u deem fit. Singapore does not support corruption and provides things like electricity, good roads, hospital etc for its citizens.

U guys only talk about developed nations when it suits ur narrative. Social media regulating shouldn't be ur headache now, they should make that law for corruption and corrupt leaders instead.

Of course you would be, our lazy compatriots from the North sponsored his bill to protect their laziness..

Since Northern politicians dont want criticism, let them have their Arewa republic in the North. Let the South have the Federal republic of Southern Nigeria..

I support the bill totally. Social media falsehood will disintegrate this country if not properly checked. Now before one says anything on social media, you've got to check for the authenticity of the source. Thanks to senator moh'd Sani Musa
Re: Social Media Bill Scales Second Reading In Senate by Zonabanjo(f): 10:39am On Nov 21, 2019
Let's not forget it's social Media falsehood posted by Linda Ikeji that led to the massive looting of shoprite in Ajah Lagos during the height of the xenophobic attacks by South Africans. She claimed an mtn office was reportedly burnt lending morals for other hoodlums in major cities to attack South African owned companies in the country. This bill if passed into law shall end such falsehood. Kudos to senator Sani Musa
