The iconic jewelry brand began as a “stationery and fancy goods” store in New York City, New York, U.S., in 1837. A 25-year-old Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young opened it after receiving a $1,000 advance from the former’s father. Soon establishing themselves as the go-to emporium for their simplistic design aesthetic, their name was etched as an iconic jeweler in 1878 when they acquired one of the largest yellow diamonds – named the Tiffany Diamond – from the Kimberley mines in South Africa.

Samsung

The South Korean conglomerate was founded on March 1, 1938, by Lee Byung-chul as a grocery trading store in Daegu (then spelled Taegu). He started by trading locally-produced noodles and other products to China. Eventually, he forayed into other industries including textiles and petrochemicals, before entering the electronics industry in 1969.

Nokia

The Finnish telecommunication giant had its origins as a single paper mill operation. In 1865, mining engineer Fredrik Idestam founded his first mill in Tampere, Finland. Three years later, he built the second one by the Nokianvirta River. Idestam joined hands with friend and statesman Leo Mechelin in 1871, who helped transform the enterprises into a public limited company called Nokia Ab. After finding success across sectors such as cable, rubber boots and televisions, the company’s transition to telecommunications started in the 1990s. In fact, the first-ever GSM call in 1991 was made through a Nokia equipment. By 1998, it emerged as the best-selling mobile phone brand in the world.

The company that is synonymous with oral hygiene had its start as a starch, soap and candle business. William Colgate established it in New York City in the year 1806. The first toothpaste by Colgate was launched in 1896. It went on to win top honors at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris, France.

Lamborghini Trattori is an Italian tractor manufacturer. It was founded in 1948 in Cento by Ferruccio Lamborghini, who later went on to establish Lamborghini Automobili which manufactures luxury automobiles.
