Charleys:That's it. In a society where women are segregated from men in public, like covering women with hijab or burqa, in some extreme cases disallow women from going out without male companion, preach 72 virgins for a Moslem matyr, the result is young people burning with libido going for rape of women. The unfortunate thing in Nigeria is that no amount of reformation preaching can change this religious tradition. Most unfortunate thing is that the parts of Nigeria with the tradition have refused any restructuring of the country's political process. Worse, one Nigeria traps together the group with this tradition and others. |

Weak means weak, fake means fake. They're two different words with two different meanings and sometimes a Hadith graded as weak by one scholar can be graded good by another, especially if other similar hadiths are already graded good or authentic. wallezee: You have to make room for "interpretations" for your argument to be complete. Someone can genuinely believe in a religion and indulge in violence for its sake. All they have to do is misunderstand or misinterprete what is written. |

He noted that the traditional way of using the military might in tackling violent extremism by the insurgents had not recorded much success and advised that the Federal Government should involve the families and religious leaders in tackling the menace of violent extremism in the country. - Deputy Dorector NDC So if Nigeria is under attack from another country; we should involve enemies familiar to resolve the war too? We are finish! |

wallezee: Christians are the problem not Christianity. There will always be people who'd misrepresent a group or collective and you cant base your judgement of the system on a misbehaving few. Churches are denominational unlike mosques. Thats not a problem on its own. Variances of a commodity strengthens the entire category. Denominations are built on nuances, Christianity permits a liberal approach to the interpretation of its holy book unlike the qoran. Such approach will tend to produce multiple variances of the same core idea. People just find what they are most comfortable to or believe the most and follow it. The problem isn't with religion or its systems but its followers running a corrupt version of the gospel in their heads 1 Like |

Coolgent: That's not the takeaway. Tackling terrorism effectively would be a mixture of social engineering and a more tactical military engagement. Using force will only strengthen them, how may of them do you want to kill? They will spurn new warriors and this shit will never end. Its the ideology behind their actions that needs to be killed. What does an individual have to believe to engage in terrorism? This question is what needs to be answered before any more action |

Coolgent: Your own inference doesn’t derive from his argument. Firstly, the traditional use military is to crush the enemy if necessary totally because everyone on the opposing side is seen as enemy. USA carpet bombed Afghanistan and Iraq in the wake of terror attack in US and even overthrew their governments. Why didn’t it use the same military strategy on its own soil against the terrorists? Simple answer is that it has to be selective in identifying and punishing the terrorists on its own soil something that is not required of it against an enemy nation that it declared war against which the military is best suited for. Same thing is happening in UK and France. Secondly, if you read his whole article, he did not rule out military response entirely, he only said it should be complimented with other strategies. Military is able to take on the Boko Haram in sambisa forest (even though with some restrictions because of innocent hostages), do you advocate such bombing of Maiduguri metropolis for instance even though it is well known that the terrorists have infiltrated the civilian in the city? |
