I did not see anything different here. The two under the bridges serve a purpose to the two different environment according to their social and environmental needs.

At one place in Dubai, the under the bridge served the people as a recreation park while somewhere in Nigeria, it serves people as a business area. So what's the big deal?

NO.
BUT THE FEW ONES THAT WERE PROVIDED, YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS HAVE PERSONALIZED THEM. THE REST HAVE BEEN DAMAGED OR KICKED ASIDE, OR BROKEN AND USED TO MAKE FIRE FOR COOKING.
THEN THEY TURN AROUND TO BLAME THE GOVERNMENT.

THE OTHER DAY A VIDEO WAS IN CIRCULATION ABOUT A LADY THAT DUMPED HER TRASH JUST AT THE FOOT OF A TRASH COLLECTION BUCKET. SOME MEN HAD TO THREATEN TO BEAT HER BEFORE SHE AGREED TO PACK AND DISPOSE HER RUBBISH PROPERLY. WHY?

THERE ARE BINS IN BANKS, BUSES, AND AROUND MANY PREMISES. A NIGERIAN'S CULTURE IS TO THROW HIS TRASH JUST A FEW METERS AWAY FROM HE'S CURRENT POSITION EVEN IF THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DUMPSTERS IN FRONT OF HIM.

THEN WE BLAME THE GOVERNMENT.

Let me ask again, do you know there are numerous differences between making laws and enforcing them?

Why didn't we stop at making laws alone, why are there law enforcement agencies?
Our government is careless, clueless and inapt that's why there is lawlessness in the society.
Think critically.

SO WE'RE NOW LESS THAN GOATS, THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS TO FORCE US TO PUT OUR DIRT IN THE BINS THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED.

YOUR EXCUSES TO BE A DIRTY AND DISORGANIZED CITIZEN ARE GOOD ONES.

I can’t really see anything wrong with having a market under bridge. This is not an immediate problem in Nigeria. There are more pressing issues like scarcity of public amenities. In the Uk you get studios and garages under bridges.

Oga stop arguing blindly and ignorantly, tell your government to put law enforcement agents close to any waste bin and watch whether they will abide by the rules or not. Try to be practical and stop using yeye sentiments. This is Nigeria and not America.

What Nigerian government wants to build but fail whole fully. Do you know why this interchange in the pic exist? You think it's just for show? You can only find these in the US,Japan,Canada,Australia,South Korea, and it's for a reason. You won't find it in countries like Sweden or Belgium because it's not needed.
Tokyo landmass is the same size as the entire South east Nigeria. Los Angeles Metro landmass is 3 times the Size of Akwa ibom

Hi, I hope you don't mind quoting you. I love the angle you are looking at this from, but I'll rather say in some cases, it isn't just the presence of hills that determine.

Take the Onitsha bridge for example (the one you'll enter immediately after leaving the Niger Bridge). The sheer number of cars plying that route would have caused enormous traffic if not for the presence of that bridge.

So in essence, aside presence of hills, the bridges can work for decongestion of traffic. This is the same thing being done at Pen-Cinema, Lagos.

Although, I believe the underpass abi na tunnel built along Obinze road by the previous Imo state government was a complete waste of resources.

Thanks again for the angle you looked at all this from, it was really enlightening

Under bridge opposite the Surulere stadium is neat. Same with Falomo. The Obalende area was being redesigned with artwork and gardens before Ambode left. The roundabout under the bridge was where Tiwa had a show recently. Traders are back to the Moloney junction side now sadly.

ARE YOUR POLITICIANS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW YOU LITTER YOUR ENVIRONMENT, BLOCK DRAINAGES AND RUIN UNDER BRIDGES?

They are to some extent. Those doing business under the bridge do so because there are no jobs and they must survive. Those patronizing them do so because they can't afford the cost of eating in regular restaurant. Our leaders only achievement is to loot public funds. They can't initiate projects and establish industries that will create job opportunities. All that runs through their minds is how much money they can amass before the end of their tenure. And we keep voting for the same set of leaders. We need a revolution.

Can't see any politicians there...
There are things to blame politicians for, but even simple basics things Nigerians will not do.

Nigerians are the WORST thing to happen to Nigeria!
If politicians (govt) try to remove those folks from under the bridge, they'll be condemned. SMH

In Nigeria, anywhere called under bridge is a nightmare. It is either a shelter for mad people, thieves, rogues, illegal contrabands, phone grabbers, pickpockets, weed smokers, or even low key prostitution!

The day you find yourself hanging out under the bridge, only God can restore your destiny.

Meanwhile, this is Jos Federal Secretariat Bridge, sometimes eh, Lagos State alone can disgrace the whole of Nigeria.

And the following are under bridges in different parts of Lagos...
The Falomo Roundabout, Surulere Stadium and Police College bridges respectively. cool

When a flyover bridge is constructed, there are usually areas around them that are left unutilized. An example of such is the vacant space beneath the flyover.  These spaces are often either underutilized or used indiscriminately for parking of vehicles, etc.

These spaces under flyover bridges have immense potential. They can be developed into active space for public activities.  For instance, they can be transformed into recreational areas or well-organized car parks.
Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo

To achieve all these, the area under the flyover has to be illuminated, decorated with theme-based graffiti at certain spaces to create awareness for certain causes, etc.

These spaces can also be used to cultivate some vegetation or greenery. This will contribute to the ecology and environment and acts as a buffer to reduce air pollution as well as contribute to the aesthetics of the street in the day time.

In so many cities around the world, under flyover bridges has been used to achieve different public purposes.

In this article, Autojosh.com compares under some flyover bridges in Dubai, UAE and in Lagos, Nigeria.
