Stop treating your boyfriends like husbands or your girlfriends like wives. You lose respect in that process. Do not assume that you will eventually marry them so you must start acting married. Plans might change and you cannot guarantee tomorrow. Do not start cooking, washing every day or having sex etc. The problem with this is that, the level of your involvement in each other's lives will be exceeding your level of commitment.
As a boyfriend or a girlfriend, don't be his mom or dad by controlling him/her around. When you treat your boyfriend as your husband, he can be dating you for many years without any desire or plans to marry you because he has already seen it all with you and there's nothing new to expect.
