In the old days it was a taboo to marry from another tribe. Some conservative parents still hold fast to that tradition. Different tribes over the ages had peculiar excuses for not accepting intermarriages. But most common include difference in cultural beliefs, customs, language, values and customs. The other concern was what language the children would use.

As a core northerner I ve come to realized that a lot of Hausa men are increasing marrying women mostly from Ibo extraction. My point here is that, we in the north share certain cultural beliefs, customs, language and values with Yoruba people. With this linkages of languages, cultures and geographic proximity I did expect more marriages between the two tribes than with the Ibo’s with whom we share no similarities.

My uncle has been married with an Ibo for 15yrs, from their experience, marriage is not about one`s tribe, but about one`s character. An Ibo friend of mine responded by saying Ibo women will marry any body as long as her welfare is guarantee.

Cause they believe Yoruba re smarter as they re scared of being dismissed after a while and that Igbo girls re more obedient to their husband 's rules than Yorubas!
Some ppl will say it's because of sex  . . No!!! . . . Cause Yorubas re Hotter . . .U wanna bet?

But is a general belief that Ibo girls are too expensive to date and by extension to marry. on the basis of this the issue of been smarter does not arises

t is not only in the north that recognizes polygamy, other cultures and religions also promote it. We should not forget the biblical King Solomon and David who were polygamous. Around the world too, there are local chiefs, traditional rulers and religious leaders, including Christians especially Aladuras that have more than one wife.
