baby124: Shame on you to compare a former federal capital territory with Calabar. Was Calabar a federal capital territory of Nigeria as it's known today? Olodo! Person wey never see other places dey talk about other state governors. Give other southern regions (warri, Calabar, pH) the same ports status as Lagos and see if the overrated pigsty of a state isn't emigrated. |

xaggar:Calabar was a colonial capital, Abuja has federal might. Still they are learners when it comes to Lagos. Ports are in Warri, yet it’s like Sahara desert. Everybody is running, even Warri people. We are tired of useless and senseless excuses from 1900. The people simply have no brain or will to help themselves. If e pain you, go to Abuja and ask FG for help. Not Lagos. We choose to use our allocation to do something. Try that approach. 1 Like |

baby124: You post betrays your naivety and lack of experience. It is only naive people that blame outsiders for their failings, this is what caused xenophobia. I am an architect and I will school you on all low cost housing projects done by previous Lagos administration. A good example is the Odogunyan low cost housing project by the Tinubu administration. Tinubu completed the project in 1992 and sold each 3 bedroom flat for N500,000 each. There are about 500 flats. The various bank - Union Bank, Wema Bank and one other bank I can't remember now, bought the flats in bulk and sold to individuals at N2,000,000. The people that bought from the banks sold at between 3 to 4 million. That is what will happen if Lagos sell at subsidised prices to indigenes. It people that have the money (indigenes or non indigenes ) that will eventually buy it. Besides, the APC Lagos State government is ultra capitalist. They no send where money dey come from. Thank god dey no send indigene or non indigene. They are ready to toll the air you breath if it's possible. The road that Jakande build, they toll it. The road that marwa build, they expanded it and concessioned it. The bridge they build, they toll it. You think the APC government would subsidise houses? |

baby124: You just being a blockhead to what's really going on. You lack a sense of current affairs and I can understand that you are a toddler when it comes to these things (politics). Do you know the amount of money pumped into the Lagos ports by the federal govt at the detriment of other ports in Nigeria? You hear of dry ports in kaduna and federal cash spent to make it work but you wonder why a port at a sea shore (warri, onne, pH, Calabar) isn't concentrated on or developed? You say Abuja is a learner when it comes to Lagos. Lol! My guy just shut up! The sea isn't an infrastructure. 1 Like |

majamajic: The problem with us Africans is that we are very narrow minded and tend to look at issues from only our tunnel vision perspective. I lived in V/I (bar beach towers) for 20 years and I lived in main Ikoyi for 8 years. So I have wider perspectives from both sides. Yes, all you said is valid from the perspective of the elite, but what of the perspective of the low income workers or services provider struggling to survive. Basic human instinct is survival and would risk everything and defy all odds to get to where he feels his chances of survival are better. People still cross the Sahara desert and Mediterranean Sea, despite the chances of surviving the journey being very slim. I am an architect and in one of my courses called urban planing, it clearly taught me that if you fail to plan for low income housing when planing your urban cities, shanties and squatter settlements will naturally develop. This problem is not unique to Nigeria or Africa. Even France and USA battle with squatter settlements issues. The rich elites often don't like seeing or associating with poor people, except for exploitation. The failure of the ruling elites to make provisions for the poor people always come back and hunt them. I left V/I about 15 years ago and I hardly go there. I went to visit a friend at Muri Okunola last week and I was appalled by the state of the roads. The traffic was horrendous and the roads were terrible. Muri Okunola itself was impassable. I am sorry to say, but with all the allocations going to Lagos and the high IGR, the infrastructures is nothing to write about in terms of maintenance. Yes, I know other states even fare worse than Lagos, it still does not exonerate Lagos State governments. I am one of those that believes the pressure on Lagos is too much, hosting the 2 major sea ports in the country, hosting the most important international airport and now planing on hosting the biggest refinery in Africa and a free trade zone, in such a tiny state? We go soon dey climb on top each other. Anyway the main problem of Lagos is urban planing. There seem to be non whatsoever by the various governments 1 Like |

Lagosfinder: Do not argue with most Nigerians, most of them react to issues with emotions instead of logic. Lekki and VI are places meant for the rich, the plan states that. The poor should understand and stay away from these places to avoid the wrath of the planners. That is how oyinbo man's land is planned. On the security, you are right, any time me and my wife go to the beaches around those areas, she feels so scared because of those occupying the shanties. What I don't support is the govt destroying their goods. They should, though out of pity, compensate them with token for relocation and give the adequate time to relocate peacefully. 1 Like |

Lagosfinder:You have an idea of what a one room self contain cost in Bariga, Oworo, Yaba and ajah? Now factor in cost of transportation to and fro everyday. Meanwhile the average salary of these low income workers (drivers cooks, gardeners, nannies, etc) are between 20,000 to about N50, 000 per month, depending on if it is domestic job or office work. Let me add, that each elite's household employ a fairly large number of low income domestic worker, like 2 gate men, 1 house boy/girl, at least 2 drivers (one for oga and one for the rest of the family), then sometimes gardener and cooks. All these people need to like closely and might have families. London was able solve the shanty problem by having a very effective transportation system. Most people sleeping on the streets are bums and not workers. Domestic workers can live 100 km away in a village and make it to work within 1 hour. Transportation costs are taken into consideration in the wages. Besides, being a welfarist state, the government build many low cost housing estates or council flats for poor people, which are given out for almost free. The problem is the waiting period can be very long. |

Haniel18: Make which alternative... Mr man someone is occupying land illegally and you still want them to be compensated. There are a million places in Nigeria where they can set up legally within the law. It’s that easy to me, if you want to operate outside the law... then don’t cry fowl when the law catches up to you. Also, most of those people could be Yoruba but from different states. I am a human being so I can understand their displeasures, but on the other hand the LASG does not owe them Shiite, nada, squat... (whichever other word I can use for nothing you can add it inside). 1 Like |

wirinet: Main problem is greed! The greed to have it all achieved in your state instead of decentralizing these infrastructure or projects. There are other places where these projects can be sited in this country but because of politics some region gets almost all the share. The cake don't have to cry when flies perch on it. It attracted them in the first place. Spread the cake and get less flies on a spot. But don't worry, nature has a way of correcting itself. When it becomes evident that a city has gotten to it's limits of supporting good life, humans just move in to another location. |

Lagosfinder:there are as much wealthy settlers in Lekki and VI from "Ajah down to Ibeju". you obviously don't know Lagos calling yourself Lagosfinder the basics still remain that town planing is poor in the state or the Lateef Jakande plan is simply not followed and that will inevitably spring shanties and shantytowns even in Ikoyi. |
