A. Example 1. 111 (None of the options is correct. C is the closest). Solution a = 20 b = 17 x = ? x = a² b² x = 20² 17² x = 400 189 x = 111 2. 11 (A). Solution a = ? b = 9 x = 40 a = √(b² + x) a = √(9² + 40) a = √(81 + 40) a = √121 a = 11 3. 16 (E). Solution a = 5 b = ? x = 9 b = √(a² x) b = √(5² 9) b = √(25 9) b = √(25 9) b = √16 b = 4 4. 275 (E). Solution a = 30 b = 25 x = ? x = a² b² x = 30² 25² x = 900 625 x = 275 5. 15 (A). Solution a = 8 b = 7 x = ? x = a² b² x = 8² 7² x = 64 49 x = 15 B. Example 6. 121 (C). Solution a = 21 b = 11 x = ? x = √a * b x = 11 * 11 x = 121 7. 1 (None of the options is correct. D is the closest). Solution a = 4 b = ? x = 2 b = x / √a b = 2 / √4 b = 2 / 2 b = 1 8. 117 (B) Solution a = 169 b = 9 x = ? x = √169 * 9 x = 13 * 9 x = 117 9. 9 (E) Solution a = ? b = 1 x = 3 a = (x / b)² a = (3 / 1)² a = 3² a = 9 C.
