LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT VS JEHOVAH WITNESS The Lagos State Government has rescued a 14-day-old baby girl after her parents refused to allow her have blood transfusion, citing religious beliefs, even as she was in a critical condition. The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Public Defender, applied for a court order under the Child Rights Law. After having disagreements with members of the Jehovah Witness who had mobilised to refuse the rescue of the baby, the little girl was eventually taken to the hospital where the blood transfusion was done to save her life. Good development, though, would “The current administration not spare any effort in protecting the rights of women, children, the vulnerable and indigent residents of the state, irrespective of gender and religion” if “the parents of the girl, who are Jehovah’s Witnesses" had not had "medical insurance"? If so, how is LASG "protecting the rights of women, children, the vulnerable and indigent residents of the state" who can not afford medical care? |
