A Ukrainian airplane carrying 176 passengers crashed minutes after taking off early Wednesday from Iran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, killing all passengers and crew members on board. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, although Iran cited “technical problems.” As the investigation continues, Ukraine’s embassy in Tehran issued a statement ruling out terrorism and then removed it.

The fatal crash unfolded during a particularly tense time in the region: In a growing conflict with the United States, triggered by the killing of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, Iran fired more than a dozen missiles targeting Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops four hours before the Ukraine International Airlines jet went down.

The victims include 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, in addition to nine Ukrainian crew members, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans and three Britons, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry. More than 140 passengers were Iranian nationals, according to Iranian officials, suggesting that many possessed dual citizenship.

Already intelligence sources from the United States reported that the plane was downed by a Russian made surface to air missiles, while Iranian authorities declared that it was due to technical problems.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister of Canada also believes from Canadian and other intelligent sources that the plane was shot down by a missile, and may be "unintentional"

The leaders of Canada and the UK called for a full and thorough investigation into the crash, which killed all 176 people on board.

I know Trump will be delighted no American citizens were on board. He doesn't care about any other life.

And if it's actually true Iran shot down the plane, then is this the carelessness and lack of precision they wanted to use fight the US in war when they can't even tell between a commercial airline and a military plane?

The death of one man has led to collateral deaths. Exactly as I've predicted. The refusal of the Iranians to hand over the black box to the investigating authorities speaks volumes.
It's high time both countries de-escalate tensions. Countries not involved are now counting casualties.

There's no doubt America will defeat Iran in conventional warfare. But it will be a Pyrrihic victory. With China on the rise, and Russia lurking around the corner, now is not the time for any right-thinking country to go to war.

And most people still feel say na Iran bring down that plane

The Iranians weren't responsible for this. If that plane had been hit by a missile, it would have been a free fall. But the pilot even tried turning back to the airport.

For all I care this might even be the work of the USA and their allies. The nationality of that pilot is a strong ally of the USA. They no doubt collaborated to give more justification as to why the world should turn their back on Iran.

Damn! Iran must have shot itself in the foot if it really shot down the Ukrainian airliner.

If truly the plane was attacked by Iran, I think they did more harms to themselves.

Imagine the amount of Iranian that lost their lives just because of selfish interest. Not to even talk about inoccent other national that lost their lives.

Theirs need for we to start living in harmony in this world, and before we can live with peace and harmony it will begin from every single family to start tolerating everybody like their selves.

We should stop hate and focus more on being peaceful with everybody around us.

We don't even know what to believe again

There should be a unanimous agreement between all the countries in the world on the destruction of ALL weapons of mass destruction and a body set up for a continuous check in the activities of countries to avoid recreation.

Countries without WMDs would always agitate to have one. No country should be given the monopoly of creating WMDs and at the same time stop others from creating one for themselves.

I often wonder why the US, Russia, Germany etc would freely build these weapons and have a problem with other countries developing one for themselves. In as much as others have, others would feel threatened and would want to create one for themselves to have that sense of security.

Its either ALL weapons are destroyed or everyone allowed to build one for themselves.

Iran is crazy.

Isreal every year is attacked aerially by thousands of rockets fired by Iranian funded rockets, the Israeli iron dome takes them down mid air and has never shot an a plane by mistake.

Here is Iran, America wasn't even attacking yet they still went ahead to shoot a commercial airline.
