‘The fact that Akalaka was the direct father of Ihru ọha (Ikwerre). Iwhnurọhna, in Ikwere parlance, means the face of the community (town, city or village).

I don't know why this narrative has become so popular, when it isn't even the meaning. Have Ikwerre people forgotten the meaning already? For goodness sake, the tone pronunciation of iwhnurnu is not even in the same ballpark as ihnu, iwhnu or ruwhnu. Ahn ahn. They really confused this one.

OP didn't give the whole details.
Continuation:

A KWERULEM , meaning – “We have agreed.” (In Igbo)

What the white-man was hearing was “Ikwerre,” so he recorded it in the official gazette that the IKWERRE PEOPLE have agreed for the colonial administration to build the wharf.

Therefore ‘Akwerulam’ later metamorphosized in to Ikwerre, so we are not Igbo.

The umbrella union that gathers all Ikwerre worldwide is call Ogbakor Ikwerre (Gathering of Ikwerre in Igbo)

During the 2015 Presidential campaign, Chibuike Amaechi (Ikwerre man), Speaking in Igbo Izugbe (Central Igbo) while campaigning for Buhari in Aba, told the crowd that the person calling himself Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan(GEJ) is not an Igbo man like him, that if the crowd thinks GEJ is Igbo they should ask him to speak Igbo when he comes to campaign, and recently when people where complaining that Buhari have sidelined Igbo in his government, Chibuike Amaechi came out again to say that people got it wrong that the Igbo are getting their due appointment in Buhari government because he is an Igbo man with appointment in Buhari’s regime.

And then painfully enough Chibuike Amaechi won the Ohaneze Ndigbo Man of the year Award in 2015. Aru!!(Abomination) how could they award an Ikwerre man such accolades? I know their plan; they just want to steal our oil.

2018 December period I watched a video of Julius Agwu, the renowned comedian visit his mum in the village and found her in the farm, she spoke with him a dialect of Igbo I can understand clearly.

Meanwhile, Barr. Uche Okwukwu is the secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo and he is from ikwerre land, while the president of Ohaneze Ndigbo in River state is Prince Igo Okparanma from Isiokpo River State.

But I will tell you that we are still not Igbo, we are Ikwerre, get that into your think skull, all you want is our oil, the Fulani ruling cartel can have all the oil wells, you the Igbo already have the highest per capita income in Nigeria, manage that one.

During my university days in Jos Plateau State, I remember vividly whenever the Igbo Union is hosting the annual Igbo Day celebrations at the Jos Township stadium, they usually erect 6 canopies representing Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and the 6th canopy will house Igbo from Rivers, Delta and Benue States put together.

And also during the unending tribal and religious riots in Jos, we the Ikwerre will always run to an area known as Apata, which is an Igbo stronghold for safety, we can’t even run to an Benin strong hold for safety.

But remember we are still not Igbo, all you want is our oil. we will fight you and make sure you will never smell it, even though there is oil in Anambra, Imo and Abia states, your eyes is on our oil. Let the North that doesn’t have oil maintain all the oil wells in their possession already. Thank You.

Growing up, i used to believe that the ikwerres are igbos until I visited one of their communities and heard them conversing in their native dialect. The truth is that I understood every word they spoke as it was similar to central igbo. After that encounter i make bold to say that ikwerres are an ethnic nationality just like the bini, yoruba hausa and that my igbo brothers are looking for their trouble.

Ojukwu made the mistake of trying to liberate them on and found out it was a grievous mistake so he pulled out and let adekunle and his goons almost wipe them out..yes, am talking of the Asaba massacre.

Anyone telling you that igbos are adding you to their struggle lied to you. Trust me on this.

The situation on ground here in the East is that you people are not igbos. You betrayed igbos and even took their properties..so no one is adding you or regarding you as igbos.

Trust me!! The igbos are happy and satisfied with what they have..NO ONE IS ADDING YOU ANYWHERE

For the OP really? Does it really matter? If you are Igbo or like Igbo are you not similar regardless? You are not Fulani or Yoruba, nor British.

You have Igbo names, in fact very Igbotic names , dress in Isi Agu with cowboy hat, eat and sing similar to Igbo so if you are not Igbo fine, it will not build roads for you because of that. You will not automatically be awarded modern hospitals because of that.

Nice try,

The op that posted this thing on nairaland did not complete it. Look at d complete version of my ikwerre brother that wrote it whose name is obinna okparuba who is also a biafran. He posted it on radio biafra. He was indirectly mocking our foolish brothers who keeps denying their ancestry. He wasn't literally/seeiouly saying we re not ibos..that is why whenever he writes something he will attach that it still means Ibo beside it. He was mocking them of their foolishness. That is why he wrote the post as #sarcasm. Read d post very well from beginning to end, u will understand what d post was pointing out..
Here is d full version

I've come to realize that most Africans and especially Nigerians are clueless on a lot of stuffs. That's why they're easy to enslave and conquer.
It does not matter what Ikwerre says, the reality points to the fact that Ikwerre is a community and dialect of Igboland just as Owerre,Onicha
,Abakeleke,Ohuhu,Aro,Ngwa,Aniocha,Nsukka are all communities and dialects of Igboland. The term "Igbo" was coined about 50 years ago as an umbrella term for the ethnic nation. Prior to that ,each of the communities were known by their community names. An official Igbo language was created 50 years ago based on the most popular dialect ,Onicha and some Ohuhu .
Efik,Oron,Ibibio,Ekid,Annang are all communities and dialects of one ethnic nation . There's no official name and official language but people call them Calabar,Akwacross or Efik/Ibibio. The most popular dialect was Efik and now Ibibio . An official language would be mostly based on the most popular dialects and phonetic of Ibibio , Efik and some words from Oron and annang in a way that will be satisfactory to all the communities. I think the name Calabar /Calabarians should be adopted as official name of the land and people . I'm perplexed and even disappointed at how disorganized and divisive the groups is . Totally weak, voiceless, and extremely cheated and marginalized due to internal squabble.

The same explanation of ethnicity above applies to all ethnic nations on earth. Scotland is an ethnic nation ,Ireland is an ethnic nation,Sweden is an ethnic nation,Lithuania is an ethnic nation,Japan is an ethnic nation,Korea is an ethnic nation. Igboland is an ethnic nation,Calabar is an ethnic nation,Yorubaland is an ethnic nation,Tswana land (Botswana) is an ethnic nation, etc.
Africa was enslaved, colonized and nations forcefully merged for selfish gains. That is similar to Yoruba nation and Zulu nation colonizing and merging Scottish,Lithuanian,Welsh,Swedes,Norwegian as one unitary country . That fact alone is extremely humiliating and disgraceful. Today, instead of working towards decolonization and true independent federalism(autonomy for all ethnic nations) Nigerians continue to reinforce baseless colonial and slavish methods. Autonomy for all ethnic nations does not mean hatred for one another or that you can not relocate to another state . In fact, most of the ethnic fights and calls for secession are a result of perceived injustice due to how the system is set up. Do Scottish hate Swedes? Do Irish hate Lithuanians? Try lumping them in a unitary country system and see what happens .
All progressive and developed countries on earth practice true federalism. The states pay about 5 percentage to the federal, and with that system it doesn't matter where the president is from. Calabar(Akwacross) generates a total of $16 billion dollars per year but ends up receiving only $50 million per month or $500 million per year after distribution to all states. I question the sanity of anyone who thinks that's okay.
That's what we have always been saying. But the people who own these resources are not even making any effort to benefit these things. When you start talking about how things would be better for you and for your ethnic group, some people who are paid and working for people who are hell bent on enslaving us would start causing confusing. I wonder how it's the business of people who are not even from the region or area to think the know the place more than the people who live in that environment. One day it will come to an end.
