Amotekun Is Unconstitutional - Maigari Dingyadi, Police Affairs Minister by Montracine: 6:36am On Jan 19, 2020 |
Amotekun: South-West govs’ intentions good but unconstitutional, Police affairs minister The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, says the intentions of South-West governors for establishing Amotekun are good but the constitution bestowed the responsibility of national security on the Federal Government. NAN quoted Dingyadi as speaking during an interview with newsmen in Sokoto. The minister, who said the police were doing well in tackling the menace of kidnapping in all forms, enjoined Nigerians to support them in order to ensure maximum success in that regard. Commenting on the South-West security outfit codenamed "Operation Amotekun”, Dingyadi said, "The intentions of the Southwest governors are good. However, some people have expressed fears about the regional security force. ”Security is an exclusive responsibility of the Federal Government being supported at times by state governments and other organisations. ”If Operation Amotekun differs from the support being rendered by state governments to the Federal Government on security matters, then it is unconstitutional,” Dingyadi stated. He said that the border closure by the Federal Government had yielded results. Dingyadi further stated that the police would perform efficiently if the military personnel were withdrawn from areas affected by insurgency, saying that managing internal security was their primary responsibility. https://punchng.com/amotekun-south-west-govs-intentions-good-but-unconstitutional-says-minister/?fbclid=IwAR2JVAN5wLPJxBu-43-Ew0InTtLFNGTuM87yjQTwKQBCvLfu1uZ_sTx_Nms 4 Likes 2 Shares

They are now adjusting with " but " . Do you knw that Northerners takes the Southern part of Nigeria as conquered territory. For them to be shouting as if somebody dies goes to show their greatest fear which is separation. If it happens the North will be worse ecomically than South Sudan. The Yorubas shld sit up and call for restructuring. 249 Likes 16 Shares |

It's high time we start having critical discussion in this country cause the outcry from the north on this initiative seems mishecvious........How do you condemn an initiative engineered towards protection of human lives and properties 265 Likes 16 Shares |

I really do not know why the northerners are shaken by the establishment of these group. Their continual outcry is only establishing a fact that there is something sinister going on and are scared that the south-west are already gearing up to defend themselves through Amotekun. With all these going on, it is advisable for other regions to emulate this let them don't me caught unawares. 100 Likes 7 Shares |

Well, it should rather be the other way round, their intention is bad ( with the recent registration of members in church and their body language towards Muslims) but it's actually constitutional..... Well my take is, if they want amotekun, every religions should be carry along otherwise scrap the nonsense .... 4 Likes 4 Shares |

The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, says the intentions of South-West governors for establishing Amotekun are good but the constitution bestowed the responsibility of national security on the Federal Government. All of them always talking rubbish because they have a secret agenda to subjugate others to their perpetual control and dominion.Kolework! Abeg hear the same FG saddled with the so called responsibility of providing security which its has failed woefully; "...Nobody can say that we haven’t done well in terms of security, we have done our best, but the way this situation is now, we can only pray,” the president said.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/274045-what-buhari-gov-lalong-told-plateau-citizens-over-killings.html?amp_markup=1 Security Chiefs yesterday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari said only God can police the country’s border.....the country’s security chiefs blamed the porous border for the rising insecurity. 26 Likes |

”Security is an exclusive responsibility of the Federal Government Can you imagine. So the status quo should continue. Travelling by road being a perfect definition of death trap, while the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is busy protecting the perpetrators? One shouldn't wait to be told to get his hands out of fire. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

This Amotekun hullabaloo cry is a setup from the north... When there were forming their sharia police and hisbah, no southern person made a contribution.. it sounded normal for hisbah to destroy alcohol bottles that their state government are collecting taxes on.. Amotekun is here to stay. I pray all the state house of assemblies pass the bill quicky to recognize the operation. If this case goes to court and with the sharia man heading the Supreme court, there is 80% probability he would say it's illegal. 53 Likes 1 Share |

Tzben: If they need any regional security, they should first of all push for constitutional amendment where security will be shifted to regions infact full restructuring. So let them follow the right step and push for restructuring through constitutional amendment and insertion of referendum in the constitution. If not so, then Amotekun is a nuisance and must be treated as such. 8 Likes 4 Shares |

Osagyefo98: While you've got a nice point, don't forget that some states already have their security outfits funded by the government and are not seen as illegal. Basically, Amotekun is almost like that, difference is SW governors came together and set it up...From the way I see it, this will set in motion Regional policing or state police. 25 Likes 1 Share |

Tzben: I am a pure Democrat and this undemocratic actions by SW governors calls for concern who their advisors are. You said state outfit by others but not regional outfits... Let their leaders push for constitutional review so we all can develop our home grown solutions. Regional Amotekun is purely Illegal until the right thing is done. Visit the constitution , and restructure every and also insert referendum in it. That's the right step. 7 Likes 1 Share |
