The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday found Maryam Sanda guilty of killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Ms Sanda was sentenced to death by hanging by the judge.

The Nigerian police charged Ms Sanda for culpable homicide in November 2017, and sought the death penalty against the accused in a two count charge.

The victim, Mr Bello, was the son of a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello.

Justice Yusuf Halilu said there was compelling evidence to convict the accused.

The judge dismissed Ms Sanda’s statement that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a fight on the ill-fated day as a “smokescreen to deceive the court”.

He said available evidence proved that the accused stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife with intent to ” kill”.

As the judge pronounced Ms Sanda guilty, the accused attempted to run out of the court room while her relatives started shouting, causing an uproar in an attempt to draw public sympathy and soft landing.

A short break was called by the judge to restore calm before the sentence was delivered.

You stabbed your husband, murdered him in cold blood but you ran mad when thesame judgment was pronounced on you. You will live with the shame, the guilt and the disgrace of this.

The only true formula for a successful marriage is for: the husband to love his wife and lay down his life for her and the woman should be submissive.

Before you commit any crime think about the consequence first, then you will see most actions doesnt even worth it. Whenever my wife make angry, will just take my car keys, drive to cool spot, get something to drink with better pepper soup. By the time I come back I would be in a better state of mind to handle the situation.

Here you are, advocating for leniency cos of who will take care of the child, why didn't she think about who will be a father to the children when she gruesomely stabbed the young man to death?

The dead man's family can take care of their grand child, if it's truly theirs.

When she snatched him from the first wife, she was very happy but immediately the man wanted a third wife, she stabbed him to death.

She always had anger issues as tiny as she is. I went to secondary school with her, FGGC bwari and we graduated in 2005.

Anyone who can put a check on their anger buys his or her self a longer life.

My sympathy goes out to her family, the family of her murdered husband and to her poor child.

THIS IS THE JUDGEMENT SHE DESERVES. WHEN YOU VIOLENTLY AND INTENTIONALLY WASTE A LIFE, YOU DON’T DESERVE TO REMAIN ON EARTH ALIVE. THIS WILL SERVE AS A DETERRENT TO OTHERS THAT THINK THEY CAN ACT STUPIDLY IN THE NAME OF ANGER. RIP TO YOUR LATE HUSBAND, NOT YOU.
