danvon: Today, Breivik sits in a prison outside Oslo. He was given a twenty-one-year term that can be extended indefinitely—Norway’s maximum sentence. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/05/25/the-inexplicable The man was arrested, put through a trial, sentenced and now serves a 21 year term that can be extended indefinitely. Does that look to you like someone who was arrested, 'rehabilitated' and 'reintegrated' into the same society he assaulted/offended within a matter of months? I wonder what point you are trying to prove. That he is alive and in prison is because he surrendered to the police immediately they arrived the scene of his crime. If he had resisted or was still actively shooting he would have been gunned down instantly! 1 Like |

danvon:First, Norway does not have capital punishment anymore that is why he has a term of imprisonment that can be extended. Nigeria on the other hand practices capital punishment so the proper thing to do is put those criminal terrorists on trial and have them condemned to death by hanging or firing squad. If the court is lenient enough to sentence them to life imprisonment, that bottom line is that they will remain incarcerated which is what Norway did. Secondly, the setting/structure of Norwegian prisons is one that will actually encourage rehabilitation. Than man was put in a 3-room cell with TV, Laptop and exercise equipment but no internet access. Does Nigeria have such a prison? Maybe those run by DSS for high-level political prisoners. Bottom line is that terrorists should remain incarcerated and not released back into the society without even a trial and conviction, essentially no punishment! That is absolutely insensitive and even lends credence to the allegations that this government in fact sponsors and harbours northern terrorists! Where is the justice in that and how do you explain that to civilians and innocent members of communities that have been destroyed by those terrorists? It is only that we run a semi-military dictatorship that is not answerable to the electorate that supposedly voted them into office. Why was this rehabilitation and reintegration option not offered IPOB who aren't even terrorists as they are not in the business of mass murder and destruction like Boko haram? 2 Likes |

danvon: Hope u arent mistaking "prosecution" for "persecution"? What and what does d persecution Norway uses against criminals entail? Can u pls break it down and expantiate? China has a low crime rate. How harsh are d punitive measures put in place in China? Since buhari is trying to placate boko haram terrorists, y has he not given d same treatment to thieves, kidnappers and d several convicts languishing in jail for several offences? Or isnt he interested in preventing other criminals from returning to their old life? 1 Like |

lexy2014:The Norwegian system considers criminals as sick people they should be treated not punished, the argument is anyone who believes that criminals should be punished harshly will likely see nothing wrong with sick people suffering... this is very true in Nigeria lexy2014: Chinas system is harsh in some cases lenient in others like Nigeria and that's why it has many Hong Kong-Falun gong -Tibet protests lexy2014:This is where you have a good point but since the rehabilitation of Boko Haram members is causing so much backlash what do you think that rehabilitation of Arm robbers and murderers will do? |

freeze001:After the Biafra war many soldiers were allowed to join the army back After Delta militants kidnappings, many of them were not persecuted and they were even paid No one knows much about IPOB members except Nnamdi Kanu Using force and punishments doesn't always work, Nigeria has been using force to deal with Boko Haram and it hasn't gotten them anywhere, it even turned them into Martyrs and Heroes a change of strategy might be better, Buhari should treat all criminals like this Lastly your supposed to be a Christian, Jesus told you to love your enemies and don't judge he also taught forgiveness, it is because of Christianity that Boko Haram is bombing is this not the time to show your belief like Norway did |

this is the worst form of govt policy, in the history of nigeria, as a nation. granting amnesty, and spending hugely on these vile men, despite their atrocities against the nation, is like thanking them for a job, well-done. bubu 've not defeated boko boys, yet he's granting them amnesty, and spending hugely on them. its time nigerians ought to ask bubu, whose interest he's represnting, since our rubber-stamp law makers, can no more check-mate the evil policies of the executive. 1 Like |

It is highly unfortunate that boko haram members who has killed dozens of innocent Nigerians are now VIP guest to the government, is like telling them thank you for a job weldon. One wonders reasons for this, if not stylishly recruiting soldiers in readiness for his Islamasation/Fulanisation agenda. While pa Buhari is getting north restructuring the southerners are waiting for him to give them permission. |

danvon: Pls what is d punishment for terrorism in Norway? Boko haram didn't only commit murder, they also committed treason. What is d punishment for treason and murder both in Norway& in Nigeria? What is d purpose of d criminal justice system in Nigeria? I don't understand what mean by "Chinas system is harsh in some cases lenient". In terms of how it deals with criminality or in this case, terrorism, is China lenient or harsh? Is crime rate in China as low as that of Norway? I do not no what d "rehabilitation of Arm robbers and murderers will do" but since u said that is d way Norway does it and buhari was trying to replicate it, I was expecting that u will have an answer to d question. But d questions which u failed to answer are as follows: lexy2014: |

The Niger Delta militants were not going about killing people. They expressed their grievances by destroying oil facilities. So the FG cannot grant these terrorist amnesty because it was given to the Niger Delta militants. Cursed be any Christian or Southerner that still pledge support for this Buhari led administration. It shall not be well with their generation for celebrating evil and wants the evil to continue. |
