The governors must pay them stipends from their security votes. That’s easy and straightforward.

Playing games with people's lives. What a shame! Are we obtaining food, treatment, transport, accommodation, etc for free? how can someone with another job be a better security personnel in the face of those that live their lives to perpetrate evil? We need sane leaders pls.

which gainfully employed person will leave his work to be doing free community policing? it baffles me how a country with close to 300 million people not have even 5 million active police force, see bubu's kits n kins from Sudan, Libya and allover the Sahara unleashing hell on Nigeria, at this time we are supposed to have atleast 1 policeman to 100 Nigerians, instead NASS members are chopping billions and still budgeting billions for renovations when just 10% of dia illegal allocations will fully employ more police men to protect Nigerians.

Unemployment rate is very high in Nigeria.

Nobody is ready to volunteer and die for a country that care less for her citizens, not even insurance cover for the families of NPF staff or would-be community policing volunteers.

Lagos State already compounding the out-of-job rate.

Horse riding transportation engaged.

Tired Horse collapses after doing the job of OKADA and KEKE-NAPEP.

They do something like that in the FRSC and it works fine....I think what they need is to ensure they don’t recruit wrong people. That it will not work is not one of the issues

You don’t have to leave your job....the way the volunteers do their work with the FRSC is the way it will work with the police....
If u are a volunteer, u can stumble on crime related scenarios on ur way to work, while coming back. On ur street while chilling on ur balcony.... on sunday when going to church...

U can make it formal and do organized patrols when u are free on a Saturday or sunday evening. It doesn’t necessarily mean u have to leave ur job.....I think it’s a good idea if they can recruit people with high moral codes and good background

FG,

You better put them on
your pay role,why?

The ones you(FG) are paying
still harass people and collect
bribes(roger) willingly or forcefully.

I wonder what those constables
will do to make money from
citizens.

This govt is confused

You want to recruit community police without paying them, how would they do the work wholeheartedly without extorting the innocent citizens

Even the Nigerian police that get pay are still harassing people for money

Just Imagine!!! A job that is as dangerous as policing, will be done on voluntary basis?

God forbid undecided

Goverment just no get sense. You can raise taxes for phantom, non descript infrastructure but don't have it upstairs to raise revenue for the pressing issue of our time.

If you came out today in a cerebral manner to say Nigeria needed XX billion naira to recruit, train, kit and operate an extra 100,000 strong community police officers because it cost XX thousand naira per head and that will add 3, 4, 5, 6 basis point to the tax rate who will oppose or question its rationality....

...but they will always miss the proper play of goverment...

I am not even worried about extorting from citizens because heads or tails the citizens have to pay for their collective security as all over the democratic world.

But my worry is that it is the crminals who will immediately step in and take the initiative. And once the evil vermins of crimimality is sown in any institution, it will take a bonfire to get rid of them.

Sometimes you just wonder whether this is not a scenario where the goverment wants the restructuring of the security architectute of this country to fail so that the status quo will prove sustainable. Their body language to various movements to have things changed is just wrong.
