Is April 1st the official date, cos I have already noticed a drastic drop in the number of units. All we ever know is how to increase tariff, tax, pump prices but never interested in ensuring the citizens have a better quality of life. And u ask why Nigerians are leaving in droves for a better life outside the shores of this country. It's really pathetic.

Comedian2019:
NERC for or against us, the people?

Good question. One of the sensible comments on this thread/forum.
NERC like other regulator is supposed to be an umpire so technically it does not take sides. Its interest is in the quality of the sport or game or contest as may be. Its interest is in the industry itself not the players.

If it leans too heavily in favour of the consumers the quality of service will suffer and the industry could potentially collapse. If it leans too heavily in favour of the vendors it risks destroying the market. In advanced societies where there are alternatives that would mean driving customers to alternative energy sources for instance. In the case of Nigeria the risk means driving customers towards sharp practices which is almost the same thing.

Thus the regulator must detect and track the stresses on both sides of the equation and make sure it manages them wisely with a view to sustaining, stabilising and growing the industry. Thus the efficacy of any regulator depends on the vibrancy of the industry it regulates. Where there is a monopoly as in the power industry regulators have far fewer cards to play with and will always be seen to lean towards one side or the other.

Take for instance in advanced countries all energy is commercial so electricity as an energy source competes with oil and gas for patronage. Sometimes when electrcity becomes cheaper than gas people switch and the regulators have to act to keep market share. Even within the electricity market the regulators have to moderate the competiton between energy sources and distribution grids as renewables come on stream and prices of electricity varies from time to time and from location to location.

Our energy sector is still in its infancy these variables are yet to materialise. We are still very much closer to a goverment managed monopoly than a truly liberal market sector.

NIGERIA'S ARE IMPOVERISHED AND THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE KEEP MAKING THINGS UNBEARABLE.
I AM CHARGED #10,000 MONTHLY BY THESE GOONS AND I STILL HAVE TO PUT ON MY GENERATOR EVERY DAY. EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO POWER SUPPLY FOR A MONTH THEY STILL HAVE GUT TO CHARGE YOU FOR WHAT YOU DIDN'T USE.
