February 21st every year is celebrated as international mother language day.

Due to western invasion, we mostly loose connection with our local dialects and have embraced foreign languages thereby relegating our mothers tongue. Research has shown that with this speed, before the next 50 years our mother tongue will be spoken by very few among the elites in Nigeria.

That's why Prince Osisioma Foundation team in collaboration with Anambra State Broadcasting services went around town interacting with people on the streets and asking them various questions in their mother tongue.

We encourage all to embrace their language be you Igbo, Hausa, yoruba, igala, ibibio and so many other languages in Nigeria.

Watch the video and see the reactions of people on the streets of Anambra State.

Happy celebration.

I am always proud of those that speaks both local dialect together with English without confusion. Anyways, I am one of them.

Everyone including 3 years old member of my family speaks Yoruba, English is considered as second option.

Speak English in school, speak Yoruba at home!

They call it mother tongue, but unfortunately these modern day mothers and young girls are not good or maybe don't even speak the local language. It's a mother's duty to teach the kids the local language cos she's the one closer to them.
NB. I'm not excluding the men from the duty too. We all need to get all hands on deck to ensure our identity and language don't go extinct.
