today slept in butuan, a city Magellan was killed by the locals during his circumnavigation 500 years ago. today it was very safe. 5 Likes

the terrorists photos posted at the checkpoints. more than 10 checkpoints between each city on this island. i felt it safe. and adding a bit risk made it more fun.

in the afternoon, reached davao. the city center, people's park. a stage with amateur performers, they sang and played guitar to midnight. a good place to hang out . soldiers on guard nearby.

self catering durian meal. 500naira, eat as many as i can ! not allowed to take away. if i left some unfinished, i needed to pay full price. but these cheap ones not very tasty, still bitter. i ordered only 2 for a try. 1 Like

cheapest durian ever. one for 200naira with four segments. but they were a little bitter. i ate too much, bubbles grew on my tongues.

chinese style fast food chain . copycat of Mc Donald. served very cheap and untasty food which LOOKED like chinese food.

my room , the best i ever stayed in in phillipines. 5000naira, from 7pm to 7am. spotless and comfy.

day 8 heading to the southest tip of phillipines. the most south point. general santos city. strange name. i went there simply for a look at such a place i only romanticed on map with its name and location.

after gensan, i took another van bus to a smalller town which cost me 1 hour , then took a motorbike for 20minutes. and this was the end ! not very beautiful. but quiet. i saw only one west traveler over here.

a row of huts at the seaside. but they were unworthy to the money. mildewed, smallish . 150 000naira for one night. so, i decided to sleep at the nearest town .

my bed tonight. TV, AC and cold shower. 4000naira. and there was wifi . i surfed on the facebook and amazingly found out that quite a few girls in this country were VERY enthusiastic. i added some of them as friends. but all of them were far from where i was then .

my dinner, a big feast ! i deliberately took a motorbike to there, to avoid the roaming dogs. there was a line of outdoor barbecue thing. this was one of them.

day 9 heading to the west mindanao, the biggest muslim city of phillipines. Gotabato. there were more than 10 checkpoints along the road. there was little fun other than tasting a little bit potential tension over there. there was a curfew at 10pm. streets were dark, people were suspicious.
