It has happened in some other countries.

But this is how it will most likely pan out in Nigeria:

1. The lawmakers will dilly-dally for like 4-10 years in passing the bill.

2. And when they finally do, some online and offline activists will come out and remind us of how much 'hardship' it will cause the 'common man', how "aunts common man it is"... and then maybe the hashtags will come rolling in. And the whole thing will be made into a mockery as we always do.

Long overdue but they better provide the alternative before banning them.

Does this govt look like one that provides alternatives?
Re: FG Mulls Bill To Ban Plastics Production by knowyaself2(m): 10:02am On Feb 25, 2020
Put a law in place to enforce recycling, that's the solution. What's the alternative to plastic? Have they considered the hardship this will cause those in plastic business? The number of factories that will shut down and the number of workers that will lose their jobs? Our law makers don't think

is this necessary? you are trying to protect the Gulf of Guinea which over 5 countries shares...what made us think the other countries will not drop plastic waste on the Gulf or we think water does not flow.a plastic dropped in Cameroon may float towards our shoreline. ....besides do we now return to bottle our drinks which late Dora was trying to outlaw then....this country self, n.a. wa

Anytime I see drainages clogged with fuzzy drinks and water bottle plastics, I always dream of a day the govt will put a policy in place to ban eliminate or reduce the usage of such plastics

Even d white hasn't banned d use of plastics. What they have done is to devise more environmentally sustainable ways of using & disposing plastic waste. Everything mustn't be about ban. That shows that we don't think thats why we are where we are as a nation

Recycling is a huge farce. It really doesn't do much due to "contamination", improper sorting, etc. Only a tiny proportion of what is meant to be recycled actually gets recycled. The rest ends up in incinerators and landfills.

This is not to say we shouldn't attempt it, however. An absolute ban on single-use plastic is very much required. Further, a ban/strict regulation on plastic items that have good substitutes too is in order. For example, your shopping bag can be a tote bag, paper bag, etc. Plastic straws can be replaced by paper ones, single use water bottles and coffee cups can be replaced by bamboo ones, etc.

Useless and directionless Government, jobs they won't provide, enabling environment for business equals zero, when people toil and toil to build business, they'll come up with useless policies to ban their means of livelihood. Awon oloribuku gbogbo undecided

I'm in full support. Our problem is plastic.
From waterproof to sachet water to beverage plastic bottles.
Pitied a street cleaner this morning on my way back from jogging when one idiot flung plastic fanta bottle out of a moving bus. The young girl stood there devastated.

We should also implement proper waste disposal and recycling. OEPHIUS tell that fat propagandist to replace all his "hands of God" billboards with waste bins.
Since that state started being in the hands of God, things fell apart.
What about plastic bowls, plates etc? You can't just ban plastics outright

Recycling business in Nigeria: how to start?

By George Ibenegbu

Recycling business in Nigeria can be considered as one of the most lucrative businesses in the country. Nevertheless, this business is capital intensive, and you will get a lot of competition on the way. Still, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get money from that.

So until we devised “more environmentally sustainable ways”, we should keep blocking drainages, waterways and all street gutters with plastic bottles.

The way some of you reason, it’s apparent that if they allow you to rule the country for a day, every thing will collapse and there won’t be a country again
