Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) has reacted over the recent pronouncement of Nigerian Army Recruitment exercise through, Brig Gen Emmanuel Akpan, Director of Army Recruitment Resettlement and Reserves of Nigerian Army," that Army is willing to recruit Nigerian Youths for the only purpose of defeating Boko Haram insurgents in the North East".

OYC in a statement signed by its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, described the news as a welcome development, adding that such recruitment should be reserved only for Northern Youths as Igbo Youths are not comfortable with such Recruitment.

According to the group, there are suspicious and Queries about the rationale behind Such pronouncement for Such obnoxious recruitment in the South East, rather in the North or South West.

"Such recruitment is a death verdict and Penalty for any intending Youth waiting to be recruited solely for North East insurgents", parts of the statement reads.

"OYC insists that Operations Shege Ka Fassa, Civil JTF, repented Boko Haram insurgents, Meyatti Allah and Arewa Youths should be recruited massively and if the intention was targeted on Igbo youths, by choosing South East as the venue to Announce the recruitment exercise, Such agenda is Dead on Arrival, as Igbo Youths are only available for Agricultural and economic recruitment.

"OYC want Igbo Youths to be engaged in Community Policing or Regional arrangements, there are various recruitment exercise going on in various states in the South East regards to engaging Youths to tackle insecurity challenges in the South East.

"OYC will discourage any Igbo Youth ignorantly may be under pressure to go and sacrifice his or her life for the North East, South East lacks the manpower, for the recruitment exercise into Nigerian Army, because of other meaningful and significant programmes Youths are about to be engaged in the South East.

"Igbo Youths will never be used as sacrificial lamb for The North East insurgency,as Nigeria is descending into regional Security directions, every Geopolitical Zone should address their challenges without resorting to using Untrained Igbo Youths as sacrificial lamb.

"OYC call on leadership of Miyetti Allah, threating to establish their own Security Outfit across the Country,to Use the opportunity of Nigerian Army Recruitment exercise to relocate all their Herdsmen to North East and defeat Boko Haram with Nigerian Army,their Charity Should begin at Home not Abroad.

"OYC will dismantle any Miyetti Allah Security Outfit in Igbo land,as the South East Governors ban on Conveyance of Cattle by Foot is still effective and any herdsmen seen with any sophisticated weapon will be dealt... Ndigbo Agwo nno na'akirika.

Igbo Land is made up of 5 South Eastern States, and some parts of south central states in Nigeria the people are characterized by their hard work and derive for success. No doubt they are ranked as the most industrious ethnic group Nationally and Internationally.




But, this region has remained grossly underdeveloped, with deplorable state of infrastructure and social amenities. This state of deplorable infrastructure has hindered most of the potentials of the region.



To change this narrative, the State governments, particularly Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo needs to form a synergy for a regional cooperation. There is a need to establish South East Development Commission or an Economic Forum, to formulate regional development polices to move the region forward.



Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has shown us that, infrastructural development of a region is not a rocket science-It is 'doable'. The turn around in terms of infrastructure in Abakaliki and other parts of Ebonyi State, is something the region should adopt.


With the Umahi example it means that building an underground train connecting the South Eastern States is attainable, super highways and a regional stability in power is possible, Industrial parks, innovation centers, state of the art automobile centers in Nnewi and Aba is possible, world class health facilities and more are all doable.


Regional cooperation is the way...

I knew one igbo family whose dad became a general. The lowest rank in the general cadre. He said as at the time he was made one, that makes them 4 in igboland since after the war. He is retired but after telling us about the discrimination in the Nigerian army, I wasn't surprised one of his sons joined the American army. The one that passed through army school in Nigeria refused to go to NDA and draw the curtain there.

Don't mind the fools. Recruitment into the Nigerian armed forces is 100% voluntary, nobody goes knocking down any ibo man's door forcebly conscripting him into the army. Also there are millions of Igbo economic refugees living and working in the north east, are they not entitled to army protection?
