Nigerian Virgin Girls, an association dedicated to promoting virtue among young ladies, celebrated 65 girls who have decided to abstain from sexual intercourse with the opposite gender, last Saturday. The young ladies, aged 16 and above, were presented with Virtuous Awards after being examined and confirmed virgins by a medical doctor. They also participated in beauty pageant tagged ‘Miss Virginity 2010.’ According to Adunni Adediran, founder of the association, the need to reduce promiscuity and other vices like abortion and sexually-transmitted diseases was responsible for setting up the association four years ago.

“We started this in order to reduce promiscuity, and all of the vices that send our children to early graves such as abortion, sex before marriage that cause diseases of all sorts and insanity that could be brought about by disappointment,” said Ms. Adediran.

Not a big fan of virgins myself but you shouldn't dissuade those who want to keep their virginity else your intentions, however independent they are, might be misconstrued.

I never pushed nor specified what my views were. All I did was laugh. If one wants to remain a virgin then that's totally up to them. To each their own undecided.

Not tryna pick up a fight but the bolded connotes a not too pleasant conclusion on an otherwise laudable project, but then again, its just my opinion. I could be wrong. wink

The association is idiotc and stupid. They don't need to tell the whole world about their virginity or celebrate it that way. What really matters in life is your relationship with God and your fellow human beings which should be a personal thing and shouldn't be a public affair. Shame on them for they are hypocrites. They should be careful because they don't know the motives of the organisers, may be they are being marked down to be sold out or their identities revealed to ritual killers who are looking for virgins.

How do you check if they partake in MouthAction?  Diseases can be transmitted through MouthAction as well.  Should they celebrate virginity or abstinence?
There are some unreligious people that abstain for personal reasons.
Virginity should be private.
What about HIV positive virgins?
