2years ago when my pastor was building his house and these omo onile wahala started. He made sure he singled out the most notorious, elewure. After several pleas and preachings, those touts kept coming and this same elewure led them to stop work from going on. Even though my pastor self get small skunshi for head, he gave them #50k but elewure was greedy and demanded more. He wasn't even the main leader but he get were for head. One Saturday morning, na so my pastor charter youths for church we rent danfo from Lagos to Sango. We'd planned to go act as officers to arrest them and also display small madness. So, my pastor asked some to enter the danfo and others entered his jeep. We were all 10. 2 joined him in his car though.
When we got there, elewure had already asked the workers to stop work. So from afar he sighted my pastor's jeep and stood but the way the danfo overtook the jeep and some of us the youths jumped down elewure shock. Then we ran towards him and baba said he wasn't alone that they sent him. One man from our church was already acting up say throw him in the motto. Baba knew we weren't joking but he was alone at that moment, he started begging. Before we knew what was happening my pastor shouted "emadaloun ologun, emi gan fe fi han leniyi pe ogun wa" (don't mind him he has charm, I want to show him that I have too). Na so my pastor run back inside him jeep bring out four eggs. "Kpa" he begin break egg. "elewure o maa kuleni" (elewure, you'll die today). Na so me, some other youths and the workers come shock say haaa our pastor get juju. I never knew he had discuss with some other youths about that. I just shift back say e don happen if the guys of this boy come here laidis na wahala. Thank God sha, we put him in the bus and drove him to the main leader's joint who warned him never to disturb the workers again. As we let him go, he started telling the others "pastor yen logun gan o. E ma sun mo oo" (that pastor has lot of charms o, don't go close to him o). We were just laughing as we drove to Lagos. They never disturbed again till he completed that building. He became friends with my pastor self as he and his crew supervised the building till it was completed.
After the whole saga, I realised most of those people are just stubborn. Na only mouth dem get.
ur pastor na the real MVP, lol cheesy

For where? That law can't work in Lagos. Will the law enforcement agents be there when these guys are on extortion rampage?

Get them arrested and charged to court, the law will take it's course.
Work will be going on on project site while matter is in court

This thing happens all over south (SW, SS, SE), not just limited to Lagos... there's just too much open-eye in Lagos, but trust me, stories abound in other parts. (I haven't built in North, so I can't say).

No long story from me, but a quick summary of my experiences in in Delta State involves: car chases, having to carry plank anytime I hear motorcycle, jailing 4 boys and an old man, settling on many occasions with at least 100k, police chopping money from all sides, 2 workers being beat up, myself being slapped with cutlass during a fight, my building being demolished.

Now we don become padi padi, but those days enh...

Instead to go and carry cement or learn a trade, these miscreants will be using "na my papa get am" to disturb people. No wahala, in 20 years, there won't be new land to sell.

Don't be a tribal bigot. You realize that most of the people affected by their activities are Yorubas, right? Even the OP seems to be Yoruba.

Yoruba suffer at the hands of these dudes than any other tribe, so it is definitely not a tribal thing.

They will even make you pay more the moment they realize you are Yoruba. They start famzing, speaking Yoruba to you and all that stuff.

He is a tribal bigot no doubt but the truth remains even in Ibo lands it happens. If I don't know of core East,I'm quite familiar with the Ikwerres of Rivers State. We should all agreeing is wrong instead of labelling a tribe to score cheap likes on Nairaland.

Those rogues are something else. This is why I am scared to building a house in Lagos/Ogun state. Imagine budgeting 5million for a 4-5 bedroom bungalow but end up paying more than that because of these children of the under world.

It has become so bad that it is now seen as a norm. A certain man was chased out of his land because he called the police on them and he was threatened to be killed if he ever came near his land. That was how the house was re-sold to another woman.

Very well said. However consider: after you mix concrete for the day, they will come and harass your workers and chase them away. All that cement, gravel, sand wasted. You can pay for police escort or vigilante to oversee the site during working house. If you go the court route, you will pay for lawyer. Police will need motivation to arrest and detain them - that is if they don't have somebody come and bail them after 2 days. At night, they may come and demolish some of your building.

After you win the case, who will pay damages and other costs? After most of us do the math, it's just better to negotiate with them and settle a lower fee. The omoniles know this - they've been doing this racket more times than any single developer.

All the above has happened to me, and the wisdom I got is: no matter what, money must drop, so choose your battles.

If you live in the South West and you have been involved in renovating/building a house either for yourself or for someone else, I'm very sure you will understand.
It's a menace here in the South West, don't know about other regions though.

Up north here, we don't have that problem at all. Just buy your land, get your papers and start building. No single soul will disturb you about one nonsense omoonile ish.
That is why lands and houses are more cheaper than in the south.
I hate hearing about that the nonsense issue call omoonile. It is irritating and makes youth to be lazy.

Omonile Omonile....that is why I keep telling people especially those living in LAGOS to buy lands from reputable Real Estate companys.
When you buy, you have peace of mind because everything has been done for you.you have no issue with Omonile or whatsoever.
Especially if you are abroad and you want to buy land in LAGOS and have peace of mind...please take my advice.

The company will also be in charge of managing the lands for you. You won't have to worry about clearing the bush and all. You won't have to worry about maintenance of your plots as far as you have paid your Development Levy.

If you are abroad, please take my advice on this.

It's only in lagos you will buy land from an individual then after 2 months you will hear that land was sold to 4 more buyers. Before you know it, you are already in court fighting for land. One thing leads to another, the different buyers will start using charms on themselves. You will spend alot of money on the case and at the end get tired and leave the land.

Money wasted, Time wasted, Battle, Court case and all. Why

Why go through all these stress...

That's why I keep marketing genuine lands here on nairaland that are free from Omonile Wahala and any known Govt Acquisition.

Please kindly check my signature and profile to know more.

https://www.nairaland.com/5468893/get-affordable-lands-ibeju-lekki-lagos/2

And the best part is the lands I market here are in Lagos and are very affordable.

I don't like hearing people involved in land battle in lagos atall becos I know what my father went through in the hands of these so called "Omonile".

About 8 years ago, I visited my home town in Benin to build a factory in one of my land, some local boys came to disturb, I tried to negotiate proving to them with receipt that, the development levy was already paid to them, they were adamant, I left with my money. Since the coming of this present administration in Edo state, I have developed two plots in the same town without seeing them. The Lagos state government need to enforce the law and apply punitive measures because, it's enforceable just like in Edo state. The government don't seem to realise the damages these 'omo-nile' are doing to the state economy and social cohesion as the status quo is crowding out needed private investors (less taxes to the government & less job creation), it encourage laziness, layabout and criminality among these citizens preventing them from acquiring skills and alternative source of dignified livelihood.

Even if you bring soldiers, remember that the soldiers can't be there forever. grin. Once they leave , you go regret yourself. The menace of those illiterates is just horrible.

Be street wise and show no fear. You'll still have to settle them but the money go less once you show small madness too.

Show no fear but still pay them

God forbid
