HOME ANXIETY IN AKOKO TOWN OVER HUNDREDS OF CORPSES DEPOSITION

People of the ancient city of Ikare Akoko in Akoko North East Area of Ondo state has been thrown into anxiety on the importation of over hundred corpses to the town.

The corpses were conveyed with three official ambulances of the Ondo State Government, One from General Hospital, Iwaro Oka,the second one is from State Specialist Hospital Owo while third one is From Ikare Akoko.. While speaking on the development Hon Asimi Omojola caretaker chairman Akoko North East said it was true.He said he was not in the office when these corpses were moved to the secretariat however he was immediately contact. Later an official of the Ondo State Health Management Board (HMB) later contacted him describing the action as a directive from the state government "that the chairman should give a place where the corpses of Ikare state hospital will be deposited"but to his greatest dismay he realises over hundred unknown corpses were moved to the local government contrary to the base issued. I ordered the return of the corpses to where they brought them from, aside from the fact that it against the norms of Ikare land the council boss said Mrs Adeniyi Yemisi H.O.D environmental Akoko North East confirmed the incident equally that she was unaware that unknown corpses will be seconded to the Local government secretariat premises for mass burial ,though the idea is not in conformity with the ethic of her profession because if eventually buried it will be hazardous to the health of the people living in the community.

The chief medical Director Ikare State Specialist Hospital Dr Ogunlade Ayodele confirmed that some unknown corpses were deposited in the mortuary at Ikare State specialist hospital. He narrated that these dead bodies are abandoned corpses therefore the governmen considered it necessary to shared the corpses within the three senatorial district of Ondo State for mass burial,he stress it has be done in Ore,Akure Ikare which was considered in Ondo North senatorial district have since rejected it through the community and the local government. He added that it has no health implication has all the corpses has been treated with necessary chemicals. Dr.Ogunlade Ayodele used the opportunity to appeal to the state government and all well wishers to assist the state hospital with all necessary health facilities.

The traditional rulers in the town state their positions on this matter as it caught them unaware Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh Olukare of Ikareland said such act will not be accepted in anyway as it is contrary to the traditional values of Ikareland haven't been he has been notify before ,he would have given a useful advise on why they can not be buried in Ikare. On the side of Oba S.K.A Adedoyyin The Owa Ale of Ikareland said he was not around while the incident happened immediately he returned he invited the chairman if the local government who gave him situation report.Owa Ale equally stated that the situation does not go down well with the norms and traditions of Ikare land.

Therefore, such numbers of unknown corpses should not be brought to Ikare and it is against the tradition of the land as a traditionalist I state some dead bodies may be violent, some may died of some critical diseases which will have some effects on the whole community. But the issues need to be considered from various perspective apart from our own thought or imaginations.
