Victoronah1:I attended the most expensive schools. I'm even a bit intelligent . My siblings are a bunch of empty heads. Not sure my siblings can compose write-ups like those who suffered during childhood according to the comments I've read so far in this thread. I'm even impressed with the deaf barber who didn't attend a University . Millions have been spent on my siblings and myself . I still don't believe my siblings can compose a meaningful essay. Four or five square meals a day. Girls from richer backgrounds chase you. Church girls crush on you after your parents make a donation and they see you walk into an exotic car after church service . You walk into your father's office and seat down in a seat a higher degree holder who is his employee wouldn't seat. Very clear skin and everyone calls you "soft boy". I'm not worried about myself but fear for my siblings. Don't want them to taste poverty because I know those poor creatures can't survive the least difficult story I've read in this thread. 19 Likes 3 Shares |

It is worth contributing so that other people who may be facing the same life event can learn. I was born into a family with a zeal but on subsistence economy life style. As the last born, my sisters were already married and started in the same style as our parents. My father had already retired as a low-level local government employee. Mom was in the small business that barely fed the household, but we were lucky to have a small family house where we laid our heads. I had every reason to drop out of elementary school after my uncle, who was somewhat in agreement, complained consistently about the financial burden he was exposed to in raising his immediate family and also by extending support to relatives. I had made up my mind not to be a burden to him. I started a little business at the age of 12 just to support myself and I was very aware that the only way out was to get a good education which I knew was impossible if I failed to take a different approach even at a tender age. I remember how I traded all kinds of stuffs ranging from maggi, candy, chewing gum and cookies after school hours and on weekends until SS1. It should be noted that dad had left us to be with the lord when I was in primary 3. With the initial support of my uncle coupled with the little that I could collect from my business, I was able to complete my primary studies While I was doing the business, i was lucky mom had a precious sewing machine that was like a family car for all of us. I had learned to adjust some minor clothes errors, thanks to the efforts of my elder brother and my sisters who thought me how to sew. In fact, we all knew how to operate a sewing machine like a family car that everyone drives. Having mastered the skill of adjusting clothes, sewing became part of my commercial activities and from the proceeds, I was able to continue in paying my fees up to SS3. It was quite worisome that mom being regularly indisposed due to a terminal ailment that was not ditected earlier, I had to provide for the family thanks to the little income from business and also my secondary needs were catered for. Importantly, during all this time, nobody knew at school that I was sponsoring myself. Thanks to mum that was always praying for me to be blessed. Every evening after school, I will have to display my wares along a main road until around midnight and continue going to school the next morning. The routine actually affected my performance at school and some people thought I was a dull student, but inside me, I knew it was because of the lack of time to study that had contributed to my poor performance. I was not discouraged at least, I knew where the fault was coming from but I was persistent, not giving up until the end of my high school studies. It was a big relief for mom that I finished school and she wanted me to pay more attention to business since I had already developed my small business to a certain level. In me, I knew that I had developed a contrary opinion on business, so I knew that I could only realize my dream if I continued my studies. On this note, an idea to join a force (NPF) came to mind to support my education, although everyone in the family frowned against NPF (Nigeria Police Force). I started the process but it did not go well and I thank God for it. Now the NPF has flopped, the only way out is to move to the city in search of greener pastures. Lagos, I come and I must be blessed! To be contd... 10 Likes 1 Share |

sEGXY2: Poverty is a level of contentment of different people. Forgetting the definition of economists, your post sounds discriminatory. A poor man can be happy so poverty should not be rubbed on his face. |

If you're waiting for someone to tell you the step by step, replicable process or 'complete truth' of the matter, then you're fooling yourself. The journey to financial salvation is a mysterious and lonely road. You will have to figure out things yourself, or receive 'divine' inspiration, or get helped by someone (stranger, acquaintance, in law, friend, family member, etc) or just generally get lucky. I can't shout. I have seen things. And I can only submit myself to the force(s) ruling the Earth, for as long as I occupy the Earth. Thankfully, nothing means anything in the ultimate, timeless scheme of things. Everything is a mirage, so 'enjoy' or 'suffer' while it lasts. 6 Likes 1 Share |
