Anyway who cannot breath is as good as dead. Ventilators don't cure any diseases. That's not they were designed for. They only help to get oxygen into the lungs of those who otherwise should be in the morque.
Any system that could help restore life in 3% of those who are as good as lifeless has done a great job.

The truth is that intubation process is dangerously invasive , one wrong move to kill the patients and worsen stuff for the elderly ...the NCDC should not waste scarce resources on respirators because at the end of the day they don't even save the lives

There are people trained to handle those machines and avoid those wrong moves. From what we've seen so far, they actually save lives.

The best we can do for ourselves right now is boost our immunity as you observe lock down. The virus is notorious in all ramifications but you must keep the mother ship strong to give a good fight. Eat a lot of fruits and herbs, if you smoke and drink cut back imminently, you might just have an underlying condition yet to kick in.

Ventilators are prescribed purposely to patients with difficult breathing. One of the last stage of the virus
Study showed that 9 in 10 of people placed on ventilator died. That means 90% percent. what is your measure of efficiency?
early test, early isolation and early treatment is still the best approach. They need more testing kit than they need more ventilators. That is my argument.
The same study does not tell you that had those 90% not been placed on ventilators, they would have survived. Again, you have to understand what a ventilator is and what it is not. They are simply machines that can take over the breathing needs for the body particularly in cases where the patient's own lungs are diseased and unable to cope.

Without the ventilators it could have been 100%.

Precisely!

Of course, I remember him for not building ICUs, revamping hospitals for 8 years (6 as president, 2 as vice) at a time when oil prices were the highest and Nigeria was richest in its history.
I voted for him thinking he would change things only for him to turn out a distatseful weakling. Only ethnic bigots misses him. Never again
Buhari is not any better. Neither do I miss Jonathan.
I am glad to finally see omeone who voted for that dingbat admit the guy was an idiot!

only about 4% of those infected meet their demise, the NCDC should do its job by liasing with various arms of government, the public need to see results from the commission, not press releases.

I think there's a lot of mis-education and poor enlightenment going on in this country.

The so called billions from the private sector were not donated to the government. Let's ensure we are well informed on this. Dangote, UBA, Sterling Bank, CBN, Globacom, Otedola, and other individuals and organizations that donated in billions and millions did not send the money to your government.

They all came together to form a coalition called CA-COVID. This is a joint coalition of private donors. They decide on what to do with their monies without your input or consultation with any government.

If you care to know what they've chosen to do with their money, then try to follow up on news on CA-COVID. You can also follow them on Instagram, Twitter, etc. The last I heard, they will be distributing food items to over 1.5 million households (with the aim of feeding 10% of Nigerians) next week. They've also ordered for around 500k test kits and some undisclosed number of other items.

This is how they choose to spend the billions you talked about.

Let's stop disturbing the government out of ignorance. There are no billions anywhere aside what the government has allocated and other few donations from churches and certain individuals (in the form of hospital equipment).

I will always say this, no government will shut down its own economy because of petty donations.

Thanks for your painstaking explanation to the accuser.

The level of ignorance and degree of seared mindset among Nigerians is horrifying. I think the government public relations is excellently poor. There is a wide communication gap between the govt and the governed. That gap engenders all sorts of suspicions and doubts, may be.

Other than oil for instance, do you know that many Nigerians do not know that the government earns revenue from other sources. So when some folks see that Nigeria is still selling oil even with the lockdown, they see the lockdown more as a punishment rather than a measure to contain the spread of Covid-19, because they don't even know the government loses money as a result of the lockdown.

And going forward, my fear is that this level of ignorance will prove to have a devasting repercussions in our collective effort to successfully combat this pandemic in our clime.

Oga provide more labs. Test, test, test, isolate and treat. It's a race against time. Wake up. Tell your Oga Bubu at the top to hurry. The virus is not waiting for supply chain conditions to be perfect. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. And you all don't look desperate to me.

it has been said that ventilators itself kills coronavirus patients, I don't think we need them

thank you for providing the right figure...yes i know, we all must continue to take precautions, face masks and sanitizers, when going out...we all are reasonable humans, NCDC should do its job, not spread bad news, it has a mandate to work, billions have been appropriated to it...closing down the economy for too long might bring out the animal in the citizenry, hunger breeds crime and restiveness, this too leads to people's demise.
You have a valid point.

This is a very stupid thing to say. If your family member dies of this virus, you'd be speaking differently.

Lemme educate you.
1918, when the Spanish flu hit, there was an estimated world population of 1.8 billion people.
The number of deaths from the flu was at 50 million.
The number of infected was at 500 million.

Since you like percentages, let's do some.
The number of deaths in 1918 to the world's population was just 2.7%
2.7% is small until you remember that 2.7% is a whopping 50 million people.
The number of deaths from the confirmed cases of 500 million is small, just 10%, until you remember that just 10% is a whooping 50 million people.

Next time, think before you open your stupid mouth or type stupid things.

You are saying the number of people that died was just 2.7% or 10%.

If any of your family or friends was among those 10% you mentioned, would you be so cavalier about the whole thing?
