The owner of this site should do something about what people post here. What ever that is posted here contribute to define Nigeria ( Africa ). When people that are not Nigerians see these disturbing images, they understand and interpret them differently. All these contribute to the bad and in human treatment of Nigerians and Africans overseas.

So I was doing some watchman rounds in our backyard this morning at about 1:30am and saw the cobra after eating about 6 chicken eggs.

I had observed yesterday that the chickens were spooked and were making noise, so I decided to go round the house this morning.

The snake was measured and was 6ft2!! (about 1.86m)
ur relief package lmao

is It bcus it's black? Black mambas are not all that dark bro but their mouth.
Re: Long Cobra Killed At Our Backyard This Morning After Eating 6 Chicken Eggs by edeybodi: 7:36am On Apr 26, 2020
That snake is neither a cobra nor a black mamba. Black mambas are not black in colour but the inside of their mouth when opened is pitch black; hence the name. The snake you killed is a black water snake and it's not poisonous. Black water snakes are predominant around swampy or semi-swampy areas. They have black or dark skins with yellow or grey underbelly sir.

Can those eggs still hatch into chicks, or they're toast?

bro, that snake is not a cobra...

It could be a baby.

But I think it's a black mamba. I have killed 2 of that snake before.

It has no colorations on its neck but obviously poisonous.

OP you people could have at least given the snake some time to digest its last meal before sending it to its maker angry

That's not a cobra neither is it a black mamba.
That's a rat snake.
They are specialist in rat hunting and they aren't venomous.
They also move in water.

Snakes are naturally greedy reptiles. They eat what is beyond them and stop when the can't move.

The rate Nigerians are eating snake now is alarming

I can remember about ten or fifteen years ago in our community eating of snake or any cripping things was forbidden, but now boys at home are eating everything.
I wonder how life and times changes
Tradition forgotten
I thought it’s not safe to eat poisonous snakes

The chances are that it is.

The mature West African forest cobra is easily identified by the yellow patches on the upper third of its body. This snake doesn't have those patches.

And that's why this snake should be approached with caution. It is probably a black spitting cobra (same head shape) - and they are particularly dangerous since they spit without warning. They are all over the West African sub-region.

Not to be messed with.

Hard to tell from the pictures but I'll wager that it is a cobra - a melanistic spitting cobra. Quite common in West Africa.

Dangerously unpredictable because of its tendency to spit without provocation.

Best avoided
