Re: Long Cobra Killed At Our Backyard This Morning After Eating 6 Chicken Eggs by edeybodi: 7:36am On Apr 26, 2020 |
That snake is neither a cobra nor a black mamba. Black mambas are not black in colour but the inside of their mouth when opened is pitch black; hence the name. The snake you killed is a black water snake and it's not poisonous. Black water snakes are predominant around swampy or semi-swampy areas. They have black or dark skins with yellow or grey underbelly sir. 1 Like |

MrBrownJay1: It could be a baby. But I think it's a black mamba. I have killed 2 of that snake before. It has no colorations on its neck but obviously poisonous. |

OP you people could have at least given the snake some time to digest its last meal before sending it to its maker |

That's not a cobra neither is it a black mamba. That's a rat snake. They are specialist in rat hunting and they aren't venomous. They also move in water. Contact us for genuine lands/houses within estates. |

Re: Long Cobra Killed At Our Backyard This Morning After Eating 6 Chicken Eggs by VolvoS60(m): 10:34pm On Apr 26, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: ^^^ The chances are that it is. The mature West African forest cobra is easily identified by the yellow patches on the upper third of its body. This snake doesn't have those patches. And that's why this snake should be approached with caution. It is probably a black spitting cobra (same head shape) - and they are particularly dangerous since they spit without warning. They are all over the West African sub-region. Not to be messed with. |
Re: Long Cobra Killed At Our Backyard This Morning After Eating 6 Chicken Eggs by VolvoS60(m): 10:51pm On Apr 26, 2020 |
BecomeALandLord: ^^^ Hard to tell from the pictures but I'll wager that it is a cobra - a melanistic spitting cobra. Quite common in West Africa. Dangerously unpredictable because of its tendency to spit without provocation. Best avoided . |
