Rap is a huge thing here, Infact it is the second most popular genre after Electronic/Techno music. There are not so many English speaking rappers here and they crave for them. The few I know, they sound stupid. The Nigerian guys are good as well. I actually like them, but I don’t think they’re ALL THAT. They are doing well and have sold albums, plus, they sell out shows and perform at festivals.

If you’re a good rapper and you can rap in English, you’ll have an audience even if you’re performing on the street. The young folks like rap, even if all you’re saying is: jkedjdbksvgeojbsv
dan please forgive me but I'm ignorant about immigration policies. My goal is united states so do u think its possible for someone like you who got to germany to apply for us visa and get a job while on us visit visa then get permanent residency ? If not which way is possible

Guys I was thinking about this today, I wish there is this kinda of rule that will allow these western countries to colonize countries like Nigeria back. I mean look at these people, their government take their people along. See developments everywhere.
Nigeria is failed miserable state in the hands of these avarice politicians.

Brother, even though I detest the Nigerian government, you should never use the “colonize” word. It is an insult to those who fought and demanded freedom.

The police are also supposed to protect ALL legal protests. If you and your friends decide to protest against rice and beans, as long as you have a permit to do so, the police will be there during your protest to protect you.

They cannot use their guns unless there’s imminent danger that threatens safety of life. But when they stop you, they usually have one hand on their pistol for safety reasons. They also move in groups of at least 2 people.

If you’re driving and they have a reason to stop you, they blink their car light or make a sound and you MUST stop. They can ask for your ID and search your trunk. If you’re driving recklessly, they test you for alcohol with a breathalyzer. And if you’re blasting loud music that disrupts peace, they can fine you.

so true i love seeing the police show of force during league games. especially when there is a very strong local rivalry or local derby between teams from two closed cities. you see a high number of policemen at the train stations all well suited in their anti-riot gear and dogs to control the crowds and escort the visiting team to and from the stadium.

they always have a pistol. i have never seen AK47 since i left Nigeria. i heard that every bullet used must be accounted for and the use of the gun is the last resort and before they use it they will warn you that they are about to use it. and anytime they shoot a gun they must announce on the radio and television that the gun was shot.

i dislike the slow rate of investigation in Germany. i was scammed this time last year also, i went to report to the police. even if they had all the resources to identify and quickly pick up the scammer like the way Nigerian police will do if you give them small money. But up till now i am yet to get get my money back. they only handed the case to a damage repairing organisation that gave the scammer a job like community service and from there they will pay me back my money after he finish his work. but up till now i have not gotten my money back

I understand what you mean but God forbid. Part of the reason why Nigeria is a “failed miserable state” is because they colonized us in the first place. We’re still suffering the effects of slavery. The beauty you see in their country was built on the exploitation of African countries.
They even control our leadership and elections. That’s why China can maltreat us but Nigerian government cannot do anything to them.

I don’t think Germans would refer to anyone who didn’t go to University as a “high school dropout”. Education in Germany is free but it is also compulsory to a certain level. If a child is not going to school or misses school, the authorities will be alerted.

Their junior education system is broken down into 3 categories. “Gymnasium” for the smart kids who are good enough to attend University, “Realschule” for the average kids who will fit into white collar jobs, and “Hauptschule” for the not so smart kids who will fit into learning a trade/craft and blue collar jobs. They all have some level of education, regardless. Homeschooling is also not allowed in Germany.

That’s also why in your class at University, you’ll be wondering why everyone is so smart, even the ones who look unserious. Even the ones who don’t attend class, they will dust you during exams.

That being said, I don’t know the percentage of “non University degree holders”. Everyone has a level of education, no one “drops out”.

Hey Danielhouston,

Many thanks for your exposition so far on this thread. Everything felt like a movie being played out to me! cheesy

I observed that they are Oil companies like DEA and Wintershall who have oil blocks in the North Sea.

What do you think is the view of many Germans on fossil fuels?

A Master's student who came to my undergraduate University from Switzerland to intern told me; "We, the Europeans, see crude oil as a dirty source of fuel"

Europe and the developed world is moving away from fossil fuel because of the harmful effect on the environment. In Germany they encourage the use of electric cars. you have new electric car charging stations springing up everyday. Some of the public buses are being replaced with electric buses. Also diesel cars pay a lot of taxes and some are being banned. Infact, if you travel through out Germany you see a lot of windmills and solar panel farms all to generate electricity in an environmentally sustainable way and with the way things are going there will very limited use of petrol and diesel in the next 20years. Also every friday all over Germany and europe there is a protest by young ones called friday for future championed by the famous sweedish environmental activist Greta thumberg. Where they march around the streets protesting to the government and reminding the people of the harmful effect of environmental pollution on the earth’s sustainability and they are been taken seriously as the government are beginning to cave in slowly to their demands..

That being said, I don’t know the percentage of “non University degree holders”. Everyone has a level of education, no one “drops out”.

Also even if education is free at all level. Higher education is not attractive to young people in the developed world because it is seen as a waste of time. In my class out of about 13 students we have only 1 german student. Also the class after mine just one german student and they are mainly girls.

I spoke with some of my friends also studying for post graduate degrees in the USA and Canada, they say the trend is the same as most of the post graduate students are international students from third world countries.

Most germans prefer to go straight into vocational training (called Ausbildung) after high school as they get paid as high as the amount you earn when you graduate from the university while the training last and they get employed immediately after the training. So university education is almost a waste of time because if they work for just a few years they will make enough money to buy a car, buy a house or even travel all around the world for vacations before they get to 40years of age. So while waste time studying.

Also university education is very tough here. At the beginning of a new session you see alot of first year undergraduate university students on campus. Infact at the beginning of the semester it is sometimes a struggle to get a space in the bus when going to university but after the first few weeks the number drops greatly. They are no Longer interested and do not go to classes. but they just stay home watching movies or playing games with friends and on the weekends they go to party. And at the end of the semester they drop out to go learn a trade.

Yes, you can get Asylum and that depends on your reason for seeking Asylum. Nigeria is deemed a safe country with no political unrest and Boko haram is not an excuse either. So you either have to be gay, or have a concrete story to tell, for you to be granted Asylum.
Yes, refugees that have been granted Asylum in Germany can study.

That is the view of the left, not just in Europe but also in North America. In fact, for them, crude oil should be left and buried under the ground.

However, the reality is that oil is in its dying times due to its environmental impacts. The investments in alternative sources of energy is gathering much pace in recent times and in 20 to 30 years from now, crude oil will likely rot in the ground.

You can practice Islam. They have mosques over here. You have rights to practice your religion. I know some black Muslims mostly from other African countries. They partake in the celebrations and fasting but I’ve never seen them going to the mosque.

No, foreign students cannot be freelancers, neither can they do business. You can only work as per “student job”, whether online or wherever. Any business or online activity you want to do and send the money to Nigeria, must be done discretely.

I try not to reply people or engage anybody in a discussion of Racism in Germany. Because I found out that ignorance, irrationality and biasness play alot of roles during such arguments or discussion..

Thus, i have been once asked by people in Nigeria, "Erico how do you walk and work in Germany with the kind of racism we do hear about"?
Another once asked me, "as a black man are you allowed to enter everywhere you want in Germany or enter everywhere that a German can enter?" My reply I guess is not important here.

Firstly, I say Racism exists everywhere in the world in diferent forms not just in Germany. The contemporary racism in SOUTHAFRICA where fellow Africans get kicked out, brutalized and even killed is even worst..

Not only Charity but everything begins at home. One that exists in Nigeria amongst tribes is called what? I have seen where hundreds of House Officers(Doctors) and Internship applicants during a recruitment at a federal hospital in Bayelsa were openly mocked for wasting thier time to apply when they knew they didn't come from Bayelsa state.

I remember after my NYSC in 2010 in Abuja, I once went with my Kogi frends to see the then Minister of Justice Mallam Adoke who was thier brother to submit our CV, but on getting there they spoke only thier language Okene language or so and ended up submitting only thier CVs without mine, I was not even allowed to follow them to enter his office cos I'm not thier tribe!

The Palliatives and other National benefits they are currently distributing in Nigeria, is it evenly distributed across tribes and Races?

That stuff you are calling Racism is what i call "Preferenciallism" in its actual sense which is part of the world structure unfortunately, and we are all guilty in one way or the other, directly or indirectly. It is so because if you have once in your life preferred someone against another over an equitable affair, then believe me, it's same thing.

While some Blacks or Brown or whatever colour you call it are complaining of Racism in Germany, many Germans are also complaining bitterly too of being discriminated against by the German govt by "preferring" or spending hugely on immigrants more than them the citizens?? You now see that atimes it's a relative and conceptual thing.

The only glaring and abnormal form of racism is when it is supported or perpetrated by any Govt such like it was in 1940s in Germany and the outcome of it remains story and history. I think the tales of such sour history still tend to give some people the stereotypical impression of everyday racism in Germany, even when Germany currently has one the strictest laws against racism and discrimination.

In summary, when you feel descriminiated against anywhere, brave up to yourself and resist it, you can also seek redress by exploring the existing laws against such act since such acts are outlawed in most countries.

My worst experience of "racism" here that I can remember was when I first started working with Germans in a firm where I was not only the black man in that work, but also the only non German who could not freely and eloquently express himself in Deutsh( it's a part of Germany where English is not spoken one bit). They were then utilizing my speaking and understanding deficiency to shift ALL errors and blames which arise from the work to me. Sometimes before I could put together my verbs and tenses to talk, they issue is already over.. So I was accepting virtually all guilts and blames of others, I was really burning inside me and started gradually having depressive moods.

But what happened thereafter? How did I tackle it? O mehn I used the last drop of my blood and started learning the language as if my life was hinged on it, took my Language course extremely serios, went further and bought many books and materials, at home nothing else appeared on my TV other than YouTube channels of almost all Deutsch teachers, bought a new ear piece for listening every godamn time I'm outside(good a thing I didn't develop ear problem due to constant sound in the ear ), i made German frends (especially ladies) that I chat with, speak with and vist. After many months of intense training, I saw that I have improved so heavily I took my B1 exam and got almost 100% in all segments, registered for the integration course exam (the score is required whenever u want to apply for citizenship) and made 100% (33/33). I was very happy yet I entered again another B2 school for 6 months intensive after which I started speaking sound quality Deutsch( a couple of govt offices I entered also told me so). I use even idioms, a couple of times I have used big vocabularies that one or two Germans had to check thier meanings in the dictionary and admitted they weren't used to those terminologies.

Now in my work place i work VERY CONFIDENTLY, the way I tackle anybody in my work place trying to be stupid around me eh, all those acts I receive stoped Instantly.

Finally survival is like mathematics, everyman must find his own formular or live by copying from others!

Woow! I love your never die spirit.
Nice piece bro

Education is quite tough here cos you have to combine it with hustling for your daily bread which most of us were not used to in Nigeria. Friends are mostly fellow Nigerians, a few Pakistani/Indians and Cameroonians. There's barely time to think and write epistles in exam halls as most exams last between 60-90minutes.
