Lets be rational here and allow reasoning to prevail. They broke the lock down order by the governor which should attract some punitive measure's such as fines. Going ahead to auction their cows is more like killing an ant with a sledgehammer and that will be an overreaction and overreaching as well by the governor which is not what the law was created for nor intended for. Finning the defaulters is the most appropriate thing to do and can even make them carry out some community services too but auctioning one's goods for flouting a stay at home order is just too excessive. Those that got bribed should be apprehended and prosecuted. Just yesterday, the supreme court in Texas nullified the jailing of a beauty salon owner that was jailed for refusing to obey the shelter in place order by still running her business and the supreme court judge told her that what she did was wrong and selfish and she should apologize but the woman refused to apologize stating that she can't apologize for working to earn a living to feed her kid's and that doesn't make her selfish, yet the judge went ahead and nullify her jailing but ordered her to pay $500 every day her beauty salon is opened for business. The judge did not ordered for the auctioning of the beauty salon. Lessons of good judgement should be learned here and not always overreacting which is always from the point of emotions instead of reasoning. 1 Like |

This governor is a joker... Let him try it and see in fact it is just for the media. Cattles are essential goods allowed which everybody knows and for those people breaking the law the fine was 10,000 naira or go to 6 month jail term. He should not even try to sell those cow because the fulanies won't take it likely and this will cause another set of killings in the state |

dangermouse: So how will you buy meet? Do you know what this would do to the price of poultry products. From this singular act, no one will bring cow or any other food item to Rivers state. Then how do we survive without meat? In all other states: Lagos, Abuja e.t.c, food items and pharmaceutical products are exempted. If your problem is the people they are carrying in the truck, there are other ways you can handle that; like isolation or testing them since there is now a testing center in Port Harcourt. Everything is not handled with iron fist. Some thought should be applied. 1 Like |

Bekool: What about the 14 people who came with the food. Are they food too? No crossing border but some people think they own Nigeria and can do anyhow. Now the governor has dealt with them anyhow too. |

Sonoyom: So Wike should become omnipresent abi? Did you not read that the cow sellers gave bribes of 1,500 to secure their entry? Have you not heard Wike complaining several times openly about police personnel on the roads? Is it not the duty of the IGP and armed forces to address the greed and foolishness of the people on the roads? If those security agents effectively do their jobs all those arrested would be in their respective locations knowing that road no dey. Look as it stands some governors, except El Rufai need to do things the right way for things to work properly. Why are you all not complaining about the on going 30 days lockdown in Kaduna? Who has dared El Rufai? If El Rufai and Wike choose to contest as the president and vice president in 2023 I will happily stand in the sun to vote them in. Those two men truly know how to handle Nigerians and make the nation move forward. 1 Like |
