What an irony to name it OPERATION SAFE HAVEN when the citizens you are meant to be protecting are the ones most in danger from the operation.

This is a clear case of extrajudicial killing. They suspected they were armed robbers and were summarily executed.

The proper thing was to hand them over to the police but preferred to be the judge and executor as well. Human life is irreplaceable and that is why it leaves me incensed when it taken it away so callously!

Firstly, knowing that there was a lockdown why release them to go on their own, wouldn’t another set of patrol team have rounded up and returned them to the same spot

secondly, Nigeria aRmy means to tell us that there is no communication between their gate and military police about the released persons leaving their base. They just allowed them to walk off the military base without any form of communication


Then thirdly, were they running that the sentry guards should now open fire on them and at that only got one of the five ..what kind of training made it impossible for him to open fire and kill just one , poor marksmanship or what

The guys were picked from Jos south and taken to Jos north were the operation safe haven is located, and the same NA released them to fly or how were the expecting them to go to Jos south were they were picked. May God deliver us from untimely death and also comfort the bereaved family.

The army shud be highly professional than any other force in the use of lethal force. This wasn’t a war zone so what happened to the civilian in these circumstances is unacceptable.

Operation SAFE HAVEN regrets the unfortunate death of a civilian by name Mr Rinji Peter Bala by its personnel.

At about 10 pm on 12 May 2020, information was received on the activities of suspected armed robbers and cultists operating around No 18th Street, Jos South LGA of Plateau State. The report revealed that the criminals took advantage of the lockdown and curfew to perpetrate crimes. Consequently, Sector 1 patrol troops of OPSH swiftly responded and arrested 7 suspects, which were immediately moved to the Headquarters Sector 1 for preliminary investigation.

Thereafter, 5 out of the 7 suspects were cleared and asked to leave the premises. Unfortunately, as they were leaving the premises, one of the personnel on sentry duty mistook them for escaping suspects. Thus opened fire on them, which led to the death of Mr Rinji Bala.

However, a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, the MOPOL personnel involved in the incident has been arrested and detained accordingly.

Operation SAFE HAVEN has condemned the sad incident. A representative of OPSH has also visited the parents of the deceased to commiserate with them. OPSH also assures the general public of justice.
