How come COVID-19 figure in Lagos state has not gone up almost two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari lifted lockdown in Lagos and people not observing social distancing in banks and buses?

The way people are talking, it's as if we will be having 5,000 new cases in Lagos every day

No increase in number of daily testing, so we will keep getting same result...

This is a signal telling you we are under-testing.

Oga weda under testing or not......don't u think we should be getting sharp increase in mortality rate for under testing?....since doze dat don't get tested will be more vulnerable being carriers of d virus...nd without medication too.....N/B d above is open to empirical studies!!!

NCDC agents are here, if they read this post don't be surprised that you'll see an increase in the number of cases henceforth. That's why whatever you notice you should learn to keep it to yourself

They should stop deceiving themselves. Truth is that there is recorded cases of corona virus in Nigeria, but the number of confirmed cases is not even up to 100.

it would be easier for me to explain since u have confessed in ur last statement. Now, the reason why our active cases aren't skyrocketed yet is cos of d under-testing i have bn talking about. Again, i think the reason why our mortality rate is low is cos alot of people are asymptomatic and they have got a good immune system that help them fight off the virus. And this particular people dont really need medication though they could be taking multivitamins to boost their immune system.

The effect of easing lock down may take up to 2 weeks to manifest. It can't be immediate. Do you think we in Nigeria actually take good record of death rate? As people die, how can you know whether their deaths are corona related? Do you remember that cases of mysterious deaths are on increase and we keep attributing them to malaria and hypertension et al.? Do you know that not everybody that has this virus shows symptom? Some people might have suffered from this virus and recovered without knowing it. Assuming that anybody that carries it must die, then we can use death rate to know how badly we have been hit. Since the number of test per day does not increase proportionally with the number of those marked for contact tracing. The number of reported cases on daily bases will remain fairly constant if the testing capacity remain constant. I'm sure that NCDC is aware without being told that their data are almost useless since it can not be used to know the current situation, talk less of making any useful projections.

How can you have 5000 new cases in Lagos everyday when the entire tests conducted in 35 states in a day is a little above 1000?

It means, some days, Lagos state carry out less than 200 tests.

I hope this answers your question. To know whether the rate of infection in Lagos state has gone up to 5000/day, the state needs to conduct at least 30,000 tests per day, not 200, 1000 or 5000.

Those who understand statistics know that NCDC's data is largely useless in forming any relevant correlation or prediction.

I think we already do but our immune system is somehow fighting the battle for us .That is why it seems as if many Lagosians do not have it.Or the fact that they are not falling sick in thier hundreds and dying like flies in their houses or on the street just like what happened in Ecuador .
Coronal virus carriers are all over the place, infecting people and carrying on thier daily activities with reckless abandon. We are not really taking the social distancing seriously.
However, the ones you will hear of contacting the virus are the ones with weak immune system. And God help them if they have any underlying cindition. God help us all.
