But this news precisely describes an attack on a soft target sir... You are disproving your own point.

Mr. Smarty pants, how is the palace and hospital in an insurgency area a soft target, please?
Hopefully you can give examples of hard targets also. Thanks

LET THEM BE DESTROYING PROPERTIES.

They should remember that NIGER DELTA CRUDE OIL MONEY is not readily available.

SHIPS LOAD OF CRUDE OIL ARE BERTHING IN CANARY ISLAND FOR WEEKS with NO BUYER OF CRUDE OIL.

Where will the federal and state government get funds to fix that needless destruction?

NORTHERN NIGERIA IS IN GREAT TROUBLES.

They need restructuring back there in the north.

A hard target is a military target. A soft target is a civilian target.

Is a hospital a military target or a civilian target?

In a country as large as Nigeria, complex, containing approximately 160 million people, urbanised in every corner, how difficult do you army critics think it would be for a handful of terrorists to turn up somewhere, when army’s back is turned, and burn down some infrastructure like hospital, church, school or Mosque? Even the last two Bokoharam standing could enter buss and go bomb some church in Enogu or Lagos in order to seem still relevant. They could even just start travelling around the country killing and maiming until caught.

The point is, the army is devastating the terrorist but the Army cannot be in all places at the same time. Like I have always argued, Nigeria needs at least a million man army, number of police not included. If not, then Nigeria military need to go hi-tech, we need vast surveillance architecture and dedicated quick military response units if police are not competent enough to respond swiftly to reports of incidence and to deal effectively with it.

Untill, Nigeria military has the number of men required to handle the scope and breathe of Nigeria including borders or the technical infrastructure in place to monitor and respond to all armed restiveness swiftly, then terrorists like Bokoharam will be able to score heavy propaganda points cheaply even as the Nigeria Army whittles them down.

Bluffing with emptiness.

A soft-target is a person who, due to their actions and/or a lack of appropriate protective measures, is at the mercy of existing risks and thus represents an easy target.

A hard-target is a person who, due to their actions and/or appropriate protective measures, is able to minimize existing risks and thus most likely represents an unattractive target.

Originally, these two terms come from the military and relate to protected and unprotected targets. This consideration was adapted correspondingly and transferred to the field of travel security.
