Help Needed On Securing My Late Dad's Land/unfinished House. by UndauntedYOCA(f): 8:34am On Jun 02, 2020
Hello Nairalanders, I'll be brief about this.
I lost my dad in the year 2006, upon his demise, he left behind a plot of land in Lagos that has an unfinished house on it (lintel level), well, he's[s][/s] survived by only 2 children and I have just finished serving. The issue here is no one knows where the land documents are, the only thing I have with regards the house is a receipt that states that he had paid he had paid 160k out of 200k. I'd like to believe that he must have balanced it but since I do not have the balance receipt then it's assumed that he still owes about 40k.
The main reason for this thread is to seek help on how to go about getting copies of the land documents, the chief and those they call omo-onile (say land owners, not sure what they're called) have started disturbing us (what can be done about this?). Even if we had to pay the balance, I'm quite aware that it would have increased, hence, I'd like to find out how much those who know much about landed properties think or believe I'd have to pay now.
The appropriate question would be, how do I not lose the land.
I anticipate your suggestions, thanks.

What are the chiefs, Omo onile and land owners disturbing you guys for? For the balance or they want to claim the land?

They want to claim the land I guess, I'm not in Lagos at the moment and the man who has been the one helping us look after it was the one who informed me of it yesterday.

This one na big matter o.
Afonja Omo onile will never rest until they forcefully take the land or you settle them. Involve an Afonja lawyer asap to help with the negotiation cos you must settle.

I saw this post early this morning when i was abt to logout for work("First of all i'm so sorry for the loss of your father, please accept my condolences, the LORD is your strength in this difficult time)

My suggestion for you on how you and your sibling won't lose the land is that you contact this man by name ORIYOMI HAMZAT,he's radio presenter, philantropist and GOD sent to the poor and he and his team are specialised in this type of ur case, you can find him at 32FM 4th floor cocaoa house dugbe ibadan where he anchor all his programmes and thank me later, trust me u won't have to pay 1kobo except for ur transport as u secure ur late dad's property with pride,he's done stuffs like that & still doing till now & all are success except u are found guilty or on d negative side...(i av other suggestion but the chance of getting attended to is tiny since u are not a registered member of this group) but if only you can contact d man i first mentioned jus relax,i'll also be on the look out 4u..VICTORY IS URS/OURS

Best bet is to search hard and pray you find the documents. Because those land grabbers can go and forge their own docs if they discover you can't present the docs

..........................Anyways, everyone that need intelligent soap / sanitizer dispenser or intelligent solar LED light, check here https://www.nairaland.com/5945509/promo-promo-promo-awoof-don

My little advice.
You need to search your dad room and the whole house for that land document.Turn over the house if you have to.
On the matter of the omo onile.
They are called land grabbers.
You need to fence the land if it is not already fenced and hold the only keys to the big gate.
Simply make the piece of land an insurmountable fortress that no one can go inside without your permission.
You also need to physically schedule a meeting with the omo onile and find out what exactly they want and whether they are the one that originally sold the land to your father or another set of omo onile.
Don't leak the fact that you don't know where the other half of the payment balance receipt is.
Also make you finish the building or just build a small bungalow there to claim your stake on the land.
Of course some of these things cost money but the other option you have is to forfeit the land.
I pray God will guide you to make the right decision.
Thanks a lot, this is one of the reasons I'm trying to work hard so I can get some money to pay them, those people can be mean. Amen.

There are lots of water corporation in Lagos..

When u go for the meeting ..the chiefs would ask u to tender the reciept of purchase ..

Trust me they have records for land sold that is if they actually sold the said land to ur Father..

The situation is now dicey as u don't have the other reciept where your dad paid the balance ..

..if u are not ready to fence up the land the I advice u to involve a lawyer to see how u can. Sell the land if u are not interested in the area or completing the project ..
