The leading pro-Obaseki governors are El Rufai, Fayemi, Bagudu and Ganduje with Yari in play. The leading pro-Oshionmole governors are Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, Bello, Zulum and Oyetola with Ahmed Lawan and Gbajabiamila in support. The pro-Oshiomole governors are very influential especially as they have stayed away from controversy and have the ears of the President, especially Zulum for his uprightness.

The anti-Oshiomole governors want to use Obaseki to whittle down the influence of Oshiomole as he'd be a factor in deciding Buhari's successor in 2023. Weaken Oshiomole, get rid of him and install their man, Yari. Buhari knows this. Tinubu knows that if the pro-Obaseki governors have their way, they'd destroy the APC and whittle his influence. So Tinubu won't support Obaseki. All permutations indicate that the race is not in favour of Obaseki. That he is even challenged for his ticket is a pointer that he has lost the confidence of party chiefs in Edo State. Again, I advise he throws in the towel before its too late.
