sexylassie2: I have noted some points from what you said. Truth be told, many of these new players are making massive losses globally. They run on burn rate. They overpay for content globally. Many of these tv series we watch today resemble TV movies. It is not just a Nigerian thing but global https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2020/05/01/netflix-one-question-is-it-losing-money-or-making-money/#62a3894329a6 |

AZeD1: I still don't see the problem here. Make it a shared risk. If you spend 1Billion naira in developing content and you have a distributor that wants your content in Nigeria, charge them a 100million for the content or charge them a yearly licensing fee for all your content, let them deal with the uncertainty of their own market as well. The staff employed by these companies in Nigeria is nothing compared to the amount they make. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but they can close shop here in Nigeria, sack the workers if they wish, but they should pay tax. If you want to sell content in the country be ready to do so openly |

kode12:Do you know what shared risk is? The reason why providers fund exclusive content is to differentiate their service from the others. We should be encouraging competition and not stifling progress with our socialist mentality. |

Doing business in Nigeria needs God's intervention. The government has its excesses and many investors too are 'chop and die' without a thought for the victims they call customers or workers. Honestly, this country sinks deeper everyday into the slough of underdevelopment, darkness and poverty. It makes my heart bleeds, especially when you want to be hopeful and you are met with hope-murdering tendencies. |

kode12: My honest opinion? Our priorities for Nigeria's bottom half is adequate nutrition, health-care, and housing, not movies and television shows. This bottom half cannot even afford smartphones and TVs, talk less of accessing said content. |

kode12:You really have no clue do you? Let me break it down for you. Capitalism isn't perfect but it's way better than socialism. When companies fight for exclusive content, it means writers, producers and all back stage production crew get to eat because they are people willing to pay for those services. Would you be ok if the government told you to share your salary with 5 people? You know, share the risk so that's there's less poor people? |

I'm sure they'll designate contents that needs to be shared because not all contents can be shared or they stipulate the length of exclusivity before the sharing clause kicks in. |

So because Netflix took effective measures (which are not even foolproof) to protect the content that they used millions of dollars to create and acquire, they have become "greedy" in your eyes, right? Netflix offers you unlimited movies that you cannot finish watching in your lifetime and all in exchange for a few thousands of naira monthly for subscriptions and data, but they are "greedy" for wanting to recoup their investment? Just when I think Nigerians have ceased to amaze me, they just keep me blowing me away with their mindset every single day! Slawormir:
