There was no need for the said "reconciliation." For what reason? To meddle in the affairs of governance of the state from Abuja? Ridiculous! Oshiomhole is irrelevant in Edo politics! Which part of this is hard to understand?

It is all pride. The men have no personal issues or hate against each other just ideology differences in governance.

Obaseki clearly deserves a 2nd term just like fashola, Oshiomole shud have shelved his pride or the party puts him in check. Pride shud not destroy party.

This cud have easily been managed if Apc were wise.

Can two work together except they agree..it is no point trying to reconcile osho and obaseki.. Obaseki has already defected to PDP..their relationship can never be cordial as long as obaseki remains in the PDP...Maybe next time but not now..

I think the fundamental problem is differences in personalities and the inability to manage each other. Oshiomole is very controlling and aggressive, thanks to his background as a unionist and trade organizer (and very difficult to manage). He wanted to have a say, not necessarily in the governance of Edo State, but by using his position as party chairman to advance his own interests. For example, the minister of health has been Buhari's loyalist for years, while the second ministerial slot to Edo State went to Oshiomole's boy (Clement Agba). If Buhari wanted to give a slot to Edo State (like NDDC Chairman), he'd call those closest to him (Oshiomole and Tony Momoh) instead of Obaseki, making the latter feel sidelined. That is Buhari's nature.

Obaseki, on the other hand, felt undermined and wanted to chart his own course and have a say in the happenings in the state, including federal appointments. But he did not do it the right way because he lacked the combative and belligerent nature of a seasoned warhorse like Oshiomole. To cripple Oshiomole, he needed to have his own men and build a structure within the state, not outside. The best way to do that was to carry state party leaders along (because quite frankly, these guys are not comfortable with Oshiomole as a leader: he once had the head of his task force on demolishing properties arrested and handcuffed on camera because he demolished the property of a VIP. The video is still on youtube. He also once told a widow to "go and die" ). Obaseki needed to place his party men in strategic positions and then expand gradually. This is what Tinubu did in Lagos and gradually won each of the south-west states for ACN. From there, his boys went on to federal appointments. By starting as a sectional leader, Tinubu has now become a force in determining who becomes the President of Nigeria at least since 2011. Oshiomole is attempting to pull the same stunt. Obaseki's eyes are too big, wanting to spread his tentacles to the federal without first securing the state, it's like wanting to take a flight without securing how to get to the airport.

On a final note, it is sad to note that politics in Nigeria has become a rewarding business like Tony Momoh said in the interview. Yesterday, Professor Osinbajo called for a national debate to reduce the size (and cost) of government. Once you remove the incentives, people who have never done any meaningful work in their lives (like Dino Melaye, Bashir Ahmed and Sabiu Yusuf) would not go near the seat of power. It is time to address the vexed issue of managing Nigeria, and a quasi-parliamentary system with confederate units might do the trick because Nigeria is dangerously too big and notoriously heterogeneous to be centrally managed.

Remove the incentives, the attraction is gone.

GMBuhari:
selfishness

thats the summary

You've done governor once, since it's not a family inheritance, allow someone else too instead of going to another party who already have candidates to field

It's also selfishness to want to impose your own candidate by force on the people because you are baba isale

how will they reconcile , it's all about name, power and money for these mofos
Selfishness is buhari trying to go for a third term when he can only go for two terms.
Obaseki on the other hand is the sitting governor and has every right to contest for a second term.

Even those who refused to be sworn-in, I reached out to them; I pleaded with them. They were in Abuja. I pleaded with them to get downto Benin to be sworn-in. And then they told me that they were negotiating withthe governor but they wanted certain things to be settled before they go for the swearing-in. I told them to go and be sworn in; that they will be more effective there because, in the last Assembly, they changed Speaker about three times. I told them, ‘look, if you are there, you will be effective in the House. When you are outside the House, one, you will not bring any changes; two, you will not be paid or get allowances because there is nobody who is going to pay you for thework you have not done. You even signattendance register because you have irreducible minimum days to attend the House sittings, about 181 days in ayear. If you fall short of that, your seat will constitutionally be declared vacant.’ And by December, they have failed to meet that minimum qualification.

Use your brain and be not a hypocrite.

If it was you would you go?

The governor deliberately bypassed them and selected a speaker.
Then you want them to go and be sworn in.
And then a speaker that is not their choice will preside?

Once they allowed themselves to be sworn in, the speaker remains.

You think they are fools like you?

If the governor wanted true reconciliation he would have reconstituted the house afresh.

And let them collectively vote their speaker.

Clever by half!
