CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

AWKA ANAMBRA STATE

Bari was in the shop, busy with work. She sang along to "Mad" by Sarz and Wurld, as it played on her phone. She picked the scissors to cut the thread, it fell off her hand, for the umpteenth time since that day. She sighed and picked it up.


"Good afternoon, Bari" David greeted, as soon as he entered the shop.


"David!!! where have you been?, you just disappeared" Bari chuckled, putting the song playing on her phone to a stop.


"I was in Imo state" he replied.


"Please, do have a seat"


"Thank you" he sighed.


"How have you been?, and how has the investigation gone so far?" she asked keenly.


"Oh yeah, it is going on well, I have found Lina"


"Really? have you questioned her? does she know anything?" she asked all at once.


"She doesn't just know something, she did something"


"What did she do?"


"Bari" he called out slowly. "Don't freak out after you hear what am about to say" he blinked his eyes at her.


"What is it? you can tell me anything, I promise not to freak out"


"I found my brother, he is not dead" he dropped the words like it was an atomic bomb.


"Oh okay, you have another brother apart from Daniel? why were you looking for him?" she asked, trying not to pay attention to her beating heart.


"I found Daniel, he didn't die, he is very much alive" he sighed.


"Daniel? who is Daniel?" she greased her face in confusion.


"Your boyfriend, my brother" he replied firmly.

Bari gasped and covered her mouth with her palm, tears gathered in her eyes "You mean my Daniel didn't die? he is alive? I will see him again?" she wiped the tears that streamed down her face.


"Yes, he is still alive. But he has memory loss, he doesn't remember anything from the past, not you or me or his family, not even his occupation" he said through gritted teeth.


"Oh my God, what happened to him?" she sniffed.


"Lina happened to him. She replaced him with another person at the accident scene, and took him to Imo State. Before he could wake up, they wiped his memory and the stupid girl introduced herself to him as his wife, they were living happily ever after until i caught her" he sneered.


"Oh my, if Daniel didn't die, then whose body did we bury?"


"That will be an investigation for another day, all i want now is for Daniel's memories to come back"


"Can i see him?" she sniffed again.


"Sure, you can come with me" he stood up and left the shop. Bari followed, after telling the girls to take care of the shop.


The car came to a halt at "Climax hotel" David and Bari got down and walked into the building. They got to the reception, David conversed briefly with the receptionist before they climbed up, to the room. They got to room 14, David knocked and the door flung open, they entered, shutting the door instantly.

There were three men in the room already before the arrival of David and Bari. Bari looked around in fear, clutching her hand bag tight.


"This is Obed" David spoke up when he noticed the fear in her eyes. Bari only nodded. "The person over there" he pointed at the end of the bed "Is Acid, while the one that opened the door for us earlier is Kyle. They all helped in the investigation" he concluded.


"Oh okay, thank you very much" she said, relieved, then turned to David "Where is Daniel then?" she blinked her eyes.


"Oh yeah, he is in the next room, follow me" David said, heading to the door, Bari followed behind. They got to room 15, David turned the door knob and entered, Bari let out a full breath before she followed him in. Her heart was beating fast and hard, she followed him slowly until they were in the room. A young man was seated, facing the window, his back turned to the door.


"Daniel, someone is here to see you" David said. The young man stood up from the chair and turned around. Bari gasped, her bag fell on the floor, the tears gathered yet again, she walked in brisk to the young man and poked his hand.


"Daniel, is it really you?" she flung herself at him and cried "Daniel, i thought you died, i cried myself to sleep every night, i hated life, i wished to die and be with you" She spoke through heart wrenching sob.


"Bari" Daniel muttered softly. Bari shot her head up, instantly.


"Do you remember me?" she asked, her eyes lit with excitement and expectation.


"No, i don't. But i saw you in one of the flash i had, your back was turned to me, i called you Bari and you turned to look at me, then i saw your face" he muttered.


"I missed you Daniel, i thought it was the end of the world for me" she cried.


"My brother said you were my girlfriend" he said, rather than asked.


"Yes, we were dating before you died" she sniffed.


"Am sorry i made you cry and worry" he whispered.


"Of course you should be sorry, you made me cut my hair" she chuckled sadly and punched him softly on the shoulder.


"Ouch, that's painful" he lamented.


"It might help you regain your memory" she smiled amidst tears. Daniel laughed.


"Now, speaking of his memory, he needs to take his drugs" David said, going to the drawer.
