Because you mentioned Robert Jordan, I will check the other books listed. grin

Just curious. Why didn’t you mention Brandon Sanderson as well? I think he did a great job finishing the WOT series and has written superb personal works too.

There’s a new young gifted writer I was lucky to stumble upon recently: Evan Winter. He wrote “The Rage or Dragons”. The pace is unbelievable.

Other authors I like are Patrick Rothfuss, George R.R. Martin, Tad Williams, Joe Abercrombie, Michael Crichton, Nelson DeMille, Jeffery Archer, Frank Peretti, C. S. Lewis, Jim Butcher, Glen Cook, Steven Erikson, George Johnston.

For classics: Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Alexandre Dumas.

African Writers: Chinua Achebe, Cyprian Ekwensi, Chimamanda Adichie, Mongo Beti, Camara Laye, Peter Abrahams.
I just started reading Brandon (Mistborn), but not yet deep in it. Patrick (the name of the wind) i love that book as well, just waiting for the third part. Jeffery archer(kain and abel), i read that one but no time for the others. Michael connelly, love his books as well( timeline)..
While the rest, i gat all their novels but no time

It's hard to have a favourite author when you've read so many great books. I don't have one favourite.

William Shakespeare and Professor Wole Soyinka are my best playwrights, Edgar Allan Poe is my best poet. I don't read novels much so I don't have a best novelist but The picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde and the Alchemist Coelho Paulo are my best novels. My worst Novels ever are The old man and the sea by Earnest Hemingway and No longer at ease by Chinua Achebe. These books traumatized me from reading novels again, I hate them Sooooo much.
i don’t think there’s a novel that can ever be worse than “the old man and the sea

Please no, it's not tribalism. I'm just being honest, no longer at ease is a drag. But IMO, although things fall apart is better than all Soyinka's works, Wole Soyinka is a far better writer than Achebe, and I'm igbo.

Lol, we did back in school. We had a teacher that explains it well line by line. And there is a series of Shakespeare's publication that translates it to modern English language at the left hand side, I have forgotten the name but I read lots and lots of Shakespeare, take it or leave it.

Nobody asked for your worst. Keep to the theme of the thread,it shows a balanced intelligence quotient.

Thank you

Lol, it's just your opinion, intelligence is relative. Some people will see it as a way to expand the topic and make it more interesting, others will get provoked. Some of the Greats and their works that we celebrate now were not appreciated in their own time because people saw them as clowns, but now we regard them as genius. Take for example Vincent Van Gogh and the Velvet Underground.

What's traumatic about "No longer at ease"?

Have you read it If no then find out, if yes then what's interesting about it, the only funny part was when Obi used hair cream to brush his teeth, apart from that the whole book is dry.

How old are you dear? Back then there was nothing like the internet and Nigerian parents totally didn't sit their kids down and talk to them about the birds and bees. Get my drift?

That meant that a lot of us learned about sex and love making from books. Harold Robbins' books were adult as sin and very detailed in the raunchy stuff. Jackie Collins not so much.

I learned more about birds and bees from Robbins, I guess the opposite was true for you.

I guess you have the impression I'm a kid or indomie generation the way you talk down to me...( I find your comment offensive by the way)..

And for the record, l was 46 in May..

I read my first novel (James Hardly Chase) in 1985 when l was in primary 6..Had to hide it from my dad because the rauchy picture of the model in lingerie on the cover page would make my dad think it was porn..

So, l know what I'm talking

Novels were and still are my things..
