the soul is the real u ,that will be going to paradise or hell at the end of days . Kudos, your explanation sums it all. But to make it easier, I will expatiate with analogy.

The spirit and soul are separate entity but inter-connected together. Humans are connected to God through the spirit. It reports or enables God to know what the soul think or does in and out and at infinitesimal rate. After death, the spirit does separates from the soul and goes back to God. The Soul is made to stand alone in the day of Judgement.

The book of proverbs sums it all; It says the spirit of a man is like a candle lights that searches every inner part(Soul) of a man.

When the Bible says man is dead spiritually. It means the man could not get any spiritual directions from God as the sprit only report what the soul of a man does through body/flesh desires but the soul is not getting anything back.

But the spirit connection suppose to be a two way benefits through believe and faith. Hence those that are deemed spiritually alive are getting spiritual benefits from the living God.
