Wow, i thought about this, this morning...

So my conclusion is that, spirit is for visiting the unseen realms, while soul is synonymous to our consciousness. The body is just like an ordinary clothe. The spirit inhabit the body and the soul which is consciousness connects our spirit to the body...

I mean Soul? what exactly is that? I looked through a biology book but couldn't find a reference to souls. I looked through a mythology book however and found all kinds of information on souls.
Are there any peer reviewed scholastic research papers published in any medical journals that I could learn more about this thing called souls?
Where is this thing?
how many does each person have? 1? 2? more? it varies?

What gene is it linked to in our DNA?
What kind of cells is it made of or what exactly is it made of?
can we see thing thing with an MRI machine or a powerful microscope?
Who do you think would know more about this thing called souls: a witch doctor from the deepest jungles of Ogbomoso who has had no contact with civilization, or the entire science faculty from MIT?

Scientists study everything; why don't they study souls? Is it for the same reasons they don't study the powers of Deadpool or the magic of Harry Potter?

Very important questions but I think you are directing them to an audience that has largely chosen to remain ignorant

What is the difference between soul and spirit?

BODY

When a man dies his body (if not disintegrated) goes into a grave or tomb (Jn. 11:38) where within a few days it begins to smell and decompose (Jn. 11:39), and it returns [Heb. shub] to the dust of the ground from which it was taken (Gen. 3:17-19, Job 10:9, Psa. 9:17, etc., etc). The "person" is said to be where the "body" is and the "person" is resurrected from the place where the body is (Mat. 28:6). Only in a figurative or symbolic sense does a "body" ever go to sheol (Jonah 2:2). Jonah was not "literally" in hell [sheol], but in the fish, and besides he didn't even die. I'm sure Jonah's loss of perception inside the fish resembled his knowledge of the word "sheol."

SPIRIT

When a man dies his spirit returns to God Who gave it (Lk. 23:46, Psa. 104:24-30). The "spirit" is never said to go to hades or sheol, and the "soul" is never said to go to Heaven at death. Men and beasts have the same spirit [ruach] and they go to the same place (Ecc. 3:18-21). There is no getting around this: when God takes away a living soul's spirit, it always dies. The spirit "gives life." No one can live without "spirit," no matter how young and healthy he may be. There are no exceptions. If there are, where is the Scripture? A dead person cannot experience anything-not pleasure in Heaven or pain in a fabled hell. This is a serious thing. Rom. 14:23 says: "Now everything which is not out of faith is sin." If one doesn't have Scriptures that show people go to eternal hell fire after death, then it is a sin to teach it.

SOUL

When a man dies his soul goes to the unseen or imperceptible [Gk: hades, Heb: sheol]. We also know that when man is in this condition (dead) it is likened to "sleep" (Psa. 13:3, Dan. 12:1-2, Jn. 11:11-14). God Himself likens death to sleep,

I hope this answers your question

What is the difference between the soul and spirit of man?

The soul and the spirit are the two primary immaterial parts that Scripture ascribes to humanity. It can be confusing to attempt to discern the precise differences between the two. The word spirit refers only to the immaterial facet of humanity. Human beings have a spirit, but we are not spirits. However, in Scripture, only believers are said to be spiritually alive (1 Corinthians 2:11; Hebrews 4:12; James 2:26), while unbelievers are spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1–5; Colossians 2:13). In Paul’s writing, the spiritual is pivotal to the life of the believer (1 Corinthians 2:14; 3:1; Ephesians 1:3; 5:19; Colossians 1:9; 3:16). The spirit is the element in humanity that gives us the ability to have an intimate relationship with God. Whenever the word spirit is used, it refers to the immaterial part of humanity that “connects” with God, who Himself is spirit (John 4:24).

The word soul can refer to both the immaterial and material aspects of humanity. Unlike human beings having a spirit, human beings are souls. In its most basic sense, the word soul means “life”; however, beyond this essential meaning, the Bible speaks of the soul in many contexts. One of these is in relation to humanity’s eagerness to sin (Luke 12:26). Human beings have a sinful nature, and our souls are tainted with sin. The soul, as the life essence of the body, is removed at the time of physical death (Genesis 35:18; Jeremiah 15:2). The soul, as with the spirit, is the center of many spiritual and emotional experiences (Job 30:25; Psalm 43:5; Jeremiah 13:17). The word soul can refer to the whole person, whether alive on earth or in the afterlife.

The soul and the spirit are connected, but separable (Hebrews 4:12). The soul is the essence of humanity’s being; it is who we are. The spirit is the immaterial part of humanity that connects with God.

StUriah:
Soul is the vital force of every living creature. Without the soul, the body is empty, inactive and is opened to destruction.

Soul creates the dreaming state while the body is at rest. Through this, many imaginable and unimaginable realities are envisioned by a dreamer thus establishing the fact that Soul has connection with both our physical life experiences and the nonphysical realities. The Soul, being immaterial, does not die with the death of the physical body of any creature, rather it (the Soul) return to its creator, the Supreme Spiritual Energy (God), either in fulfilment or otherwise of its purpose in creation.

Spirit violate the natural orders and create miraculous events that are considered to be impossible in the universe. Without the Spirit, man is restricted to nature; natural instinct and tendencies; and the ability to reason and see possibility of the impossibles in the universe is prevented.

Spirit brings about reason, possibility, miracles. Soul brings life to the body, when it depart from the body the body becomes dead and is opened to destruction.

Are you a Christian?
Re: What Is The Difference Between Soul And Spirit? by kokomilala(m): 10:01am On Jun 28, 2020
To answer the question ,you need to meditate and dissect Hebrews 4:12.
Spirit is a gift from God. Every human is born spiritually dead.It is known as PNEUMA.And when someone dies ,it is the first thing that goes out of the body. It goes back to God. With, the new birth or being born again, there is a renewal of the spirit. In other words, the inner man -your spirit- is activated and the Holy Spirit indwells you. See.Ephesians 1: 13-14
The soul is known as the PSYCHE.It records and keeps your personality, emotions, evil desires, evil spirits etc. You cannot communicate with God through your soul.It is with your spirit.
That's why it's very important to read the Word of God regularly and engage in fasting and praying. These develop the inner man.The Word of God is life and Spirit.

What is the difference between soul and spirit?
You, Mr OP is the soul. The container of your soul is your body(or flesh) , meaning you (your soul) own your body.
While your spirit is the fuel to your soul which influences all your decisions. Your spirit is influenced either by the Holy Spirit or demons.

Now the difference between soul and spirit is that:
1. Soul needs a body to manifest while spirit needs a soul to manifest
2. What happens to the body affects the soul. For example, if you lose an eye, it will affect your soul.
However the flesh doesn’t affect your spirit
3. Your soul is the decision maker, but your spirit will determine how much good or bad decisions you can take.

As simple as that ..

the soul is the real u ,that will be going to paradise or hell at the end of days . Spirit is from God to guide us is his ways . it's that part of you that rebuke u wen u are about to do something bad while that from devil (demons ) convince u otherwise. when u die the spirit is taken back by God . while the real u (soul) is ready for judgment the body is a simple vessel that house them all that return to the soil .

The soul is the part of the human body responsible for love, hate, cry, simply out emotion. While the spirit is the man himself, the real person of the human is the spirit, this is the part where God relates with, and this is the part that must accept Jesus and be born again. The spirit can be born gain while the soul remains dead, so the born again spirit must keep renewing the soul to avoid the fulfilment of the works of darkness through studing the Bible, praying and enforcement of. discipline.

See Hebrew 4:12 spoke about the spirit and soul been different.

God bless you.

According to the Christianity.
Your Spirit is the real you.
Since God is Spirit and you're created in God's image and likeness. Then the real you is the Spirit.
However, it is said that your Spirit (the real you) is dead until you come into Christ.

Your Soul is your seat of intellect.
It encompasses your mind, emotions and free will.

Your Body is the housing of your spirit and soul that allows you to exist and survive on earth.

According to Islam
God created Adam as He wills...He created his flesh and blood, his bones, hair, and his body from soil and water; this is the beginning of the creation of Adam.

Then He put the soul into his body. Then by the soul man can stand and sit, listen and see, learn and know what animals can know and beware of dangers. Then God put the spirit into the body. By the spirit Adam knows right from wrong and guidance from error and he camouflages and learns and manages all of his affairs.

However, science has not found credence to this.

-Gotquestion

Kudos, your explanation sums it all. But to make it easier, I will expatiate with analogy.

The spirit and soul are separate entity but inter-connected together. Humans are connected to God through the spirit. It reports or enables God to know what the soul think or does in and out and at infinitesimal rate. After death, the spirit does separates from the soul and goes back to God. The Soul is made to stand alone in the day of Judgement.

The book of proverbs sums it all; It says the spirit of a man is like a candle lights that searches every inner part(Soul) of a man.

When the Bible says man is dead spiritually. It means the man could not get any spiritual directions from God as the sprit only report what the soul of a man does through body/flesh desires but the soul is not getting anything back.

But the spirit connection suppose to be a two way benefits through believe and faith. Hence those that are deemed spiritually alive are getting spiritual benefits from the living God. As the spirit reports activities, It also has the potential to get spiritual guidance and benefits for the soul, in return, which will benefits the body.

If a soul is disconnected from his maker, it is much easier for the dark energy/evil spirit to influence that very soul into committing unspeakable atrocities. Hence, the verse in the bible, that say he who is born of or (connected) to God does not commit sins.

This is the advantage some genuine men of God have over other humans. Many are only using brains and are deceiving people. A true man of God should understand this analogy without much ado.

I hope this clears it all.

Raydans:

Let's have your own explanation
a human being is tripite in nature...

spirit soul and body

spirit interacts with the spirit realm... Jesus said those that worship God must worship in spirit and in truth... the spirit is the deepest part of man, some don't even know they possess a spirit...the organs of the spirit are conscience, intuition and communion this three as somehow interwoven.

soul is consist of the mind, will and intellect... now the soul is like a bridge through which messages gotten from the spirit is passed down for the body to execute... for instance the Spirit(intuition) asked you to go meet so and so person when the spirit send an impulse the soul understands it through the mind(intellect)...then you already know what to do...

body the organ of interaction with the material realm, physical realm...it consist of our five senses now, you know... the body execute that message by the spirit which is understood by the soul and the body execute it...

that's why now matter how you try to use logic you can't understand the ways of the spirit... it's very deep than what meets the eye...so it's important to have the spirit and soul divided through the word of God... Hebrews 4 v 12...read it, you will get only the word of God can accomplish that separation... the soul is a shell that covers the spirit...

for the spirit to receive life, one have to get born again and receive the life of God... cos the spirit of man became deaden after he sinned against God in the garden... so for man to receive life again believe in Christ and have your spirit receive the life of God, and proceed to have your spirit released which is now clouded by the soul... your mind, will and intellect... so you see it's deeper than you thought...yes sir.

lest I forget, the Spirit of God forms a union with your spirit to make it stronger and more tune to the ways of God... and the Spirit of God is different from your spirit.

Body is the physical container.
Soul is the life implanted in that body.
Spirit is the force that control the Soul. ie, forces from devil can be in charge or Forces from God. the kind of spirit(good or bad) in control of the soul at any point in time determines how one act.

Whereas, the spirit is the eternal being freed from the material world at death but suppressed in this bodily form.
