It depends on what you study or which job role you which to settle for. Which ever it is you've to acquire or own certifications depending on what your field entails. This will make you have an edge over others.

Secondly it is very important for you to work on your CV and Linkden profile. This is your Identity in front of an employer. Infact you should spend most of your time on LinkedIn, that way you will meet people with the same profile with you which you can as well replicate on your profile. But you need to try not to write things you ain't on your cv.

This is my 1cent. I would have loved to write extensively on this. They're jobs out there but job seekers don't search enough.

Learn a soft skill while doing a side business then apply for jobs bet u u wont regret it cos time wait for no one ooospeaking from experience when I finished I was all about getting a job getting a job when I should hv been acquiring employable skills especially if ur a woman u will definitely get a job trust me

Another way is to visit career page of Companies and create an account/sign up.(This worked for me).

Talk to people too you know and sign up for Job alerts.

Another annoying thing on LinkedIn is how everyone claims to be a HR even those seeking for a job n those that graduated few weeks ago. It suprises me. Job seekers are really suffering. More reason u keep submitting CVS n it seems nothing is happening. Try getting company direct mail addresses to apply with n ignore many fake vacancies u see on daily basis mostly having Yahoo n Gmail domain.

Most of them will make u feel that having d best CV will fetch u the presidential seat just to get ur money for CV reviews. I see things on daily basis on LinkedIn.

If you are depending on LinkedIn to get a job,you will wait until arsenal wins a UCL..

1.) Join LinkedIn, if you aren't already on it. Follow recruiters, HR professionals, many of them post jobs almost daily. Engage with them, like and comment on their posts. Forget Facebook, Instagram and the rest for now. They won't help you. Also try to have at least 300 connections to make you seem credible. Post things (articles, pictures, etc) related to your industry.

2.) Make a list of at least 300 companies you'd like to work with. Find out the names and emails of the person hiring, e.g, The Hiring Manager, The Human Resources Manager, etc. If you can't find those, the CEO will do. People are more likely to respond to a ''Dear Mrs Kemi'' or "Hello Mr Dozie" than a "Dear Ma" or Hello Sir". Remember that LinkedIn you joined, it will come in handy here.

Send each one an email, stating whom you are, your qualifications, what you are bringing to the table, i.e, how you can help their company. Make it short! Busy executives don't have time to read long emails. Also make it about them, they don't want to read your life story. You can google job application cold email samples to get a clearer idea of what I mean.

3.) Don't wait till you're done with NYSC. I made this mistake. Start applying like two months before passing out. After NYSC, apply to a minimum of 30 jobs daily. Don't just apply randomly, that's how people are scammed. They apply to so many jobs that they don't know whether the one sending them message is one that they applied to. Know the exact type of job you are applying for.

Look for and apply to the military, police, customs or any of the federal paramilitary organizations, We have them many now in the Country. As a Fresh Graduate you start as a cadet officer in these organizations. Sometimes they are looking for specialists, I remember advising my cousin then to join the police immediately he finished nysc, at first he refused but thank God he later saw reasons with me, today he is a superiendent of police SP. The thing about these armed forces jobs are that they are fixed jobs for life, no fear of sack like the banks etc.

I'm a water resources and environmental engineer so it's a technical job. And I've learned a lot in monitoring and evaluation and data management. If you have the experience many international NGOs are ready to pay you well

My Personal Experience!

While preparing for service year, I made a choice to serve in the north and at least a state that appears least on news. With least competition and where I had better advantage as a fresh graduate.

I choose Kebbi state and I was posted there. Made a choice to do whatever it takes to gain employment there.

After service year, I was employed by one of the contractors that was responsible for planting grass in the Rice Mill in Argungu to work as a gardener. I did that for about a month and I was asked to submit my CV for a role in the company as a Data Entry Officer. I was interviewed and got the role.

In my 7th month I was confirmed as a staff and when I completed a year, I resigned.

Started a volunteer role in a printing press to learn and sharpen my graphics skills before I finally got my dream job.

With that added experience on my CV, I got the job I actually Desired, though I stayed over 7months without Job. But it came finally.

I hope this helps someone.

For a federal job, you need connection, connection and connection since 2017 I finished NYSC I just got my federal job last month.

Apply to companies with your preferred role and volunteer to work for free.

Include it in the application that they can begin to pay you as soon as your efforts are worth it.

The advantage is that you'll get experience on your resumé for free.

If you wouldn't mind the cost on your part. It is always worth it.
If you eventually get a job elsewhere, this company won't want to lose you. You could then name your price.
