Our Officers At Nunieh's Residence On Legitimate Duty, Say Police by SamuelOamen: 1:42pm On Jul 17, 2020
The Rivers State Police Command has clarified that the policemen, who surrounded the residence of a former acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were on legitimate duty.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Nnamdi Omoni, who did not state the mission of the policemen, debunked reports suggesting that the officers were on illegal duty.

Omoni said the police officers, who barricaded the house of Nunieh in Port Harcourt on Thursday, a day she was billed to testify before an ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating financial mismanagement in NDDC, came from the IGP Monitoring Unit, Abuja.

He said said the police officers observed due protocols and requisite standard operating procedures, including reporting at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt to have their Investigation Activities signed by the Commissioner, Joseph Mukan.

Omoni said: "Ordinarily, such a phantom report should have been ignored but due to the potential danger inherent in keeping silent, the Command is minded to react and state the true position.

"The officers who were at the residence of the former Ag. MD Joi Nunieh were from the IGP Monitoring Team in Abuja and were here on official assignment.

"Before they proceeded to her residence, they observed due protocols and requisite standard operating procedures, including going through the processes of arriving themselves at the Headquarters with their Investigation Activities duly signed and approved by the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph G Mukan.

"They went to her residence with Mobile Policemen, suggesting of course that they were there on official duty and not illegal duty as speculated. The reference indicating that the Officers were there without the directive of the CP nor the IGP is preposterous and most unfortunate., hence should be discountenanced and disregarded.

"The command under the watch of CP Joseph G. Mukan is poised to deliver quality policing services that will endure and stand the test of time. The Command will continue to remain firm, focused and will not be distracted by any consideration".

This NDDC exposé must be seen to a logical end.

No matter the intimidation and diversions.

In a saner clime police commissioner of Rivers State should have resigned. Akpabio should also have resigned with all the allegations.

But this is Nigeria where corruption and corrupt people are celebrated. By the time APC is done with their 8 years, even four generations to come wont recover from the monumental destruction in all facet of Nigerias life.

Thank you Governor Wike, even though you all are same thieves but at least you stood as a man to do what is required of a real man.

Nonsense...does the legitimacy of the task call for the gestapo approach, given that she's not a terrorist nor a criminal kingpin? You are even defending yourselves instead of learning global best practices. I shouldn't even be expecting anything better from a police force whose competency is in the extortion of N50 from motorists.

No letter of invitation but sudden invasion of someone's privacy in the name of arrest? The govt and all agencies under it just keep on committing a lot of impunity and lawlessness.

There's something fishy here.
Why are they coming from outside the state?
Trust the police to never tell the whole truth

What legitimate duty? Lies everyday. From the presidency to the legislature, the judiciary, the armed forces and services - they all keep feeding us with an endless array of lies everyday.

I am completely fed up and tired of this government.

Just as everyone focussed on Wike and Buniez at the scene of the incident,
My eyes were focussed elsewhere.
The compound!

That compound looked like an Estate or a 5 start hotel.
Interlocked with several buildings within.

And it's supposed to be her private residence.

I bet one thing! A lot of money has been stolen, and both Joy and Akpabio have chopped money.

Joy however has smartly succeeded in whipping up sentiments to her favour.

You all are just too petty for my liking.
Thought the police commissioner for Rivers state said he wasn't aware of it?

Now its that you guys reported to port harcourt head quarters.
Damage control.

O! My Nigeria
This is the lowest we have ever been in my lifetime.
