Addendum: maybe I should deal with the below now --

Very simple: God wanted to demonstrate to Peter and the other apostles disciples that even non-Jews (i.e. "gentiles" are acceptable in the kingdom of God. It was not to make Cornelius "born again" through Peter's preaching. Instead, to demonstrate to Peter that Cornelius was already accepted even before/without Peter's preaching, God "showed" Peter "seniority" by pouring the Holy ghost on Cornelius and his household --- WITHOUT Peter making an "altar call" or the like.

Now let me show you an example of people who were "born again" already ---- well ahead of "receiving" the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19
Here we have people who were believers and disciples i.e. already "born again" according to your line of reasoning. Yet they had not even heard of the Holy Ghost let alone "received" Him! They "received" the Holy Ghost much much later after they were "born again".

Compare Cornelius and when he too "received" the Holy Ghost.

these are different scenarios bro,

in Acts 19, these brethren were already born again, how do i know?, they answered the baptism of John, what was this?, it was the baptism of repentance, bible says the people came to John "confessing their sins"  Matt 3: 5-6, they confessed their sins and were baptised. Just as Paul told them this baptism was unto repentance, Acts 19 goes further in vs 5 , When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, before he laid his hand on them, he would have preached Jesus to them and they had willingly accepted and believed.


Now to the issue of when Cornelius became born again, we need to point out that being born again mustn't come as a response to an altar call, a necessary ingredient is the belief in God's sacrifice for sin as undertaken by Jesus Christ on the cross and the remission of sin by His blood,

the Bible says, vs 36-43, he preached Jesus to them, as they have heard and the fact that he died and rose again to fulfill prophecies which they sure have heard about, and they "believed". these were ready and willing hearts full of faith in what the "man of God" was speaking the Holy Ghost couldn't resist such invitation(as it were),

bottom line , FAITH IN JESUS AND HIS ATONING SACRIFICE ON THE CROSS BRINGS SALVATION AND THEY HEARD IT FROM THE MOUTH OF PETER AND GOD SEALED THEM WITH THE HOLY GHOST TO SHOW HIS WILL

SOME PEOPLE CAN AND DO RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST BEFORE WATER BAPTISM, BUT THE FOUNDATION IS BELIEF IN CHRIST JESUS

The Bible here in ROMANS says that men are without excuse, whether in Amazon or Jalingo

Everyone's journey to God/Christ is different - we even see this in the bible. Salvation is not an event. It is not linear & we cannot use one universal template to determine every single man's condition or status.

Infact, when God spoke to Peter in the dream He said "do not call unclean what I have made clean" (refering to Cornelius & the other gentiles). And after Peter met with him, he made this ultimate declaration: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right." Meaning God had already accepted Cornelius. Leading him to Peter was to lead him to a greater walk and ultimate revelation of truth. Teaching him about the sacrifice of Christ to me was to bring to glorious fruition what was already started by God in Cornelius. He was already walking with God - now he could know Christ and understand the greatest sacrifice for his sake and accept it and then walk in it - in even greater love & works borne from faith.

If Cornelius (with his great record of love) had died never having the chance to hear the gospel, are we going to say he was never "born again" or "saved"?

God "unlearned" everything Peter ever learned with this statement, this statement shows the eternal will of God that all men, not only Jews be saved, this statement wasn't just for Cornelius alone my dear sister( Acts 10:27) , God had not accepted only Cornelius,but in Christ, all Gentiles(me &you too), so all gentiles are potentially Children.

Cornelius was not saved before peter met him, He was a proselyte, and even Jews still need a Savior na, haba!

The Angel said to him, call Peter, He is in the house of Simon, a tanner, He will tell u what u "ought" to do, Acts 10:6, vs 32, and he gathered his household to HEAR WHAT WAS COMMANDED OF THEM (NEEDFUL) BY GOD Acts 10:33

As for Cornelius, I'd say he was 'saved' alright; the Bible says that the Holy Spirit fell on him (and his household for that matter) while Peter was still speaking; so no be say Peter make "altar call" and Peter come "save" Cornelius or "win Cornelius' soul" as some people dey like to boast here.

The Holy Spirit came upon him to prove to Peter God's eternal will for Gentiles as well as Christians, the same empowerment they received in the Beginning was been repeated here, who was he to reject the move of God,, the Gift of the Spirit is also a GIFT friend just like salvation IS, so it's not because of HIS WORKS

Now to Romans 2, We know that the Law couldn't save any man. Now Paul Knew this and was shooting down this Claim to the Law by Jews of his day and encouraging them to accept the grace of God, which is the Gift of HIS SON.

Listen to this, vs 12 says, All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law, they shall perish outside the law not judged or saved or pitied and declared righteous outside the law.
He was comparing two dispensations as well, the one of the conscience and that of the Law, wait a minute let me ask a question of my own, THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT WERE DECLARED RIGHTEOUS IN OLD TIMES, WERE THEY, BY GRACE OR IT WAS BECAUSE OF THEIR WORKS?(THE LAW), the law was a task master, until the time when God's Son will be manifest. ^^^ Is it not possible for a person who has not "known" or "received" Christ (e.g. those who have not heard about him at all or those who do not understand) to feel and know the love of God? And upon feeling and knowing the love of God, to produce the "works" i.e. to live according to the tenets of [b]Jesus' [/b]teaching ----- even without "knowing" or "receiving" him? Please also read chapters 2 to 5 of the book of Romans carefully.

Can we really say that only those who have "publicly confessed" or who have said a "sinner's prayer" or "given their life" etc etc are the only ones in whom Christ and the Holy Spirit dwells?

Are we using our own traditions and faulty reasoning to undermine the simple enough teachings of Christ?

In these circumstances, I usually like to refer to these verses from the hymn "There's A Wideness in God's Mercy"

Consider a man who lives in the Amazon rainforest in one of the indigenous tribes that have still been untouched by the outside world. Like his ancestors, he has never heard of Jesus or the "word of God" or the bible but he follows the imprinted laws of God on his heart and loves his fellow man as himself. It is such a person that Romans 2 is talking about:

Romans 2 "For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)

Can you still insist that such a man cannot be justified because he has not first had this "faith" that comes by hearing the "gospel of Christ"? Is that Romans is saying? See this verse also below . . . from every nation God will accept people who do what is right:

Acts 10:34 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

to the last statement first, Acts 10:34, What is the proof of God's acceptance of  Cornelius, the angel , he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.  Remember Cornelius would have been a proselyte most likely, but HE STILL NEEDED TO HEAR ABOUT JESUS, your man in the Amazon rainforest wouldn't have known the law?  HE WOULD HAVE HIS OWN GODS sister, because MAN IS A FAITH BEING, WE MUST BELIEVE IN SOMETHING, so this man wouldn't have righteousness by the LAW to even start with, no matter how "righteous" he is, he would still be an enemy of God because, THE WORD OF GOD CAME TO ABRAHAM THAT THROUGH HIS "SEED" HE SHALL BE HEIR OF THE WORLD   Romans 4:13, so your man in the rainforest   can't even be righteous

Friend,i think you know the answer to your first question,  Faith without works is not alive. James 2:17, faith by itself is not enough it must produce fruits(works)  see Matt 5:16, but i repeat in christlikeness it is faith that leads us to DO GOOD WORKS.

when a person receives Christ, one of the first things that he experiences is the love of God in his heart,this love leads him to love other humans, he knows he has been forgiven, he can forgive others also, he sees himself how he was before grace saved him "through faith", Eph 2: 8, he realizes that he is not worthy of such kindness, he now appreciates his present condition,he is grateful.
This now leads him to forgive others and love them, because he has been loved by the Lord.   

When u genuinely accept Jesus, faith in him leads u to love him and his "word", You want to keep his commandments because you love him, Yes you Make a conscious effort to live his life according to his commandment, The Holy Spirit transformation only makes it easier and reminds you of his word in the face of Temptation.

It is a process, through prayer and the word, we grow.  1 peter 2: 2, Listen, if a man has been without Christ for say 25 yrs, u and i agree that he can't be perfect immediately, but with FAITH,  a SURE AND FIRST ingredient, he begins to WORK, to become like Him

Moses, at the burning bush(we all know the story), the God of his fathers "SPOKE" to him and he responded and acted on what was said,

David, God promised him that his seed would sit on the throne of Israel forever, and he believed, before he became king he was walking in the faith of his fathers as specified by Moses (we know this)

Others, as written in Hebrews 11:, all Believed the word of God, as it came to them   and "OBEYED" and they were justified as righteous

In this dispensation, the grace of God which has come to the world through the seed of the woman Gen 3:15 has been made manifest, Heb. 11:13 says that some died without receiving the promise, they "SAW" it from afar off(WITH THE EYES OF FAITH), they looked for a country whose builder is God, and condenmed the world around them, look at the last 2 verses of Heb 11, it says, These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,  since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. God's plan is that they would be made perfect together with us, wonderful
we are beholding prophecies from thousands of years , Jesus, the seed of the woman has been manifested, this is he , OF WHICH WAS SPOKEN IN THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS, all things were been worked out to this grand finale, the actual manifestation of the promise of God, this was the same hope that the righteous pple of old believed and were looking out for, see 1 peter 1:10-12

What role did Jesus play in any Book of the Bible than The Gospels? Zero. Even in the Gospels, most of it was about where he went, how he got there; walking, on the boat or riding a donkey or two at the same time, how he slept, etc. Only the red letter portion is what it is assumed that he said. Even that most antagonize what he said and what earlier prophets were recorded to have said.

If Jesus depends on the Holy Spirit, which you said is the most junior of the Gods in Trinity to conduct his earthly ministry, I wonder who is more powerful, the dependent or the one he depended on? How can Jesus fellowship not save a person, if Jesus is truly God and such a follower will need holy spirit still? If Cornelius was truly in good standing with Jehovah, shouldn't Jehovah be enough? Allah was Enough for Ibrahim [as] when the enemies threw him in the fire. On his way in the air into the fire malaika Jibril met him and asked if he needed help. He told him that Allah has empowered me to help you. Ibrahim told Jibril, I do not need your help because Allah my Creator knows my condition and Only He can help. Allah immediately told the fire before Ibrahim get to it to be a place of peace and safety for him. Ibrahim spent 40 days in the fire and came out and reported that it was some of the most peaceful days of his life.

This is the Major difference between Christ likeness and others, we are saved to show forth good works not showing forth good works to get save, our work can not pay the price for Sin, it is only blood that can atone for Sin Lev.17:11, and i think someone else has done more justice to this

If Jesus is the only man/one that can save man, then the injustice has been done against those who were dead before Jesus; Adam and Eve, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Samuel, Saul, David, Solomon the wise, Elijah, Elisha, Job, Zacharias and John his son to name a few good men. Do any of you think God will condemn Abraham His personal Friend for you to enter "heaven", everyone wants paradise not heaven?


Yes, only by the sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God (Matt1:21) can sin be forgiven John 3:17-18, ask urself friend how did Sin come into the human world, yes that's it by one Man, Adam (we all know that story), the same way sin and it's awful effects can be taken away by only one (Rom 5:12), and through his blood (Lev. 17:11), for those who lived righteously before Christ, the Bible says some were seen in Jerusalem when Christ resurrected (Matt 27:52-53), so it is possible that they also resurrected with Christ

I would like to contribute with a little illustration, say ur name is Esubiyi, or Esufemi, etc, would that name ever be mentioned in heaven's court, ask yourself? and listen to this, and u can believe it or not, every true child of God has a spiritual name, and that name is a link or a pointer to your spiritual destiny. if your parents had asked God, He would have told them, He is interested in the most minute aspects of our lives.

What most people don't know is that if they continue to reduce prices, the first set of company to go out of bussiness will be your beloved Etisalat and co. Mind you there is a level at which prices can no longer be reduced because everyone is here to make profit in a bussiness environment that is not so friendly.
^{Talk is not cheap in a country where all sites and switches are being powered 24/7 by gens. Mind you they still contend with vandals alsmost on a daily basis}(these factors affect all operators)

The major reason why others reduce tariff first is just to get people to migratate to their network, so as to get more on net calls and pay less interconnect rate to a competitor. If you have anyone at all that understands the bussiness, they will actually let you know that MTN has the best network in Nigeria( in terms of capacity, quality and coverage). And their prices are also competitive.

Etisalat, Airtel, GLO and MTN are all doing the same thing, trying to make profit.

My walk with God?, interesting, i have come to a conclusion that if i don't get all that God intends for me?, then it is my fault. God has done it all for us, even when we were sinners Christ died for us! that's what the scripture says,

I came to the saving grace and knowledge of Jesus from a life of cultism, confusion and the scare and fear of death, haha, as i remember the feeling of hopelessness and the knowledge that a painful and shameful death awaited me if i didn't change my ways,i just can't help the feeling of eternal thankfulness.

I was spiritually oppressed often times in my sleep and lived in constant fear of bedtime. the contrasting thing about this was that i looked and dressed well, but confusion was seating on the throne of my life, then a good friend died, violently too, this was the turning point in my life, i said Jesus, it is time, no running anymore, no delays anymore, guess what?, He was waiting, haha,. Now, i see His grace, love, favor and power everyday. I now am an evangelist by His grace, i preach and bring people to the knowledge of Him now instead of initiating them and making them soldiers of the Devil. I see His plan for me and know that "He is the Way". There are and will always be challenges that come the way of all true children of God. This is for us to know that God is able to do all things, the Power of prayer is the most potent of all and i thank God for this privilege.
