Was working perfectly few hours ago before I stepped out of the house, got back to resume my work and the screen wouldn't come on even when the keyboard and fan were on. Continued trying for hours, and now this!!!

I'm going back to the engineer tomorrow because this is really really frustrating my life right now. Lost all my works, tried my best to recover some and now this again

It could be from the motherboard & not HDD.

See a specialist for diagnosis.

They said the motherboard is fine and that the problem is the hard disk and one of the RAM. It does not even make sense. New harddisk and new laptop giving such problems‍♂️ All my documents and write ups lost and can not be recovered. it really is a big blow to me. Very very painful

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

I fluttered my wings and landed, walking througth the empty land. I looked around but saw nothing as far as my eyes could see and wondered why Rachel had called for me if she was going to be leaving the spot. I sighed and turned around again. Just ahead of me were tyre tracks and i walked slowly towards them, the tracks looked recent and they went further out of the city. I wondered if Rachel had been in the vehicle that made left behind the tracks, the port was on the direct opposite side the track trailed and that was where Zion was. What was she after? I wondered. I decided to follow the tracks and find out what lied at the end of it. As i made to fly off, my leg hit a log of wood and the smell of blood was something i was having a knack for at the time. I picked up the log of wood and lifted it to eyes level, there were some dry blood on a side of the wood and I knew that something was not right. Was she taken agaianst her will? I had to hurry, maybe her call had been a call for rescue and I had taken my time to get there. I didn't know why I felt that way, but I was in panic, something that had become a thing of the past ever since i had gotten acquainted with my newly found abilities. I dropped the log of wood back to the ground and turn to look around. The path the vehicle had taken was an endless one and they could be anywhere. I concentrated and called our her name in my mind but received no response. I sighed on last time, hoping that I would be able to catch up with her before something bad happened. I flew into the air, following the tracks as fast as I could.

Alicia stopped the truck under a building covering and turned to look around; the whole building was quiet and her son had fallen asleep on the other seat beside her. She placed the cloth the box was tied in around her neck and got out of the truck, her gaze still scanning the area as she tried to make as little noise as possible to avoid getting attention to herself. It was like a graveyard and even the hising of crickets that was common in the area was not audible. She took some stpes into the building through the door that was just a few metre her left to scan the building properly, if they were going to be staying the night there, she had to make sure it was safe at least for the sake of her son.
Alicia returned a while later and made if for the back seat instead of where her son was lying, she had gone through most part of the building and there was no one in it, it was deserted. She pulled open the door of the back seat and there laid Rachel, uncounscious and with both hands and legs tied. Alicia dragged her by the leg toward herself and grunted as she lifted her on her back, taking her into the building and into the room she had deemed the safest. it looked like everyone had left in a hurry due to the state the building was in, a lot of apartment and rooms were left open with clothes and some home appliances lying on the floor of the corridor. She opened the door to the apartment and carried Rachel into one of the rooms, strapping her tightly against the bed before heading out again to get her kid. She jammed the door behind her as she carried him in, locking the door and placing him on one of the couch, she headed to the frigde to get herself something to drink. Finally, the adrenaline that had been flowing through her bloodstream was beginning to wear off and she was able to catch her breath again. Now that its effect was fading, she realized how tired she was and after gulping the content of the cup, she fell on one of the chairs, exhausted.
Her mind went to Dan and the rest of the group that had gone out to fight the war and she wondered if they were fine, she tried to prevent herself from thinking the worst as she pulled the box off her neck and onto the table in the sitting room. Sighing, and turned her gaze to their son and smiled weakly when she saw how easily he was able to fall asleep even in the midst of all the chaos that was happening. She wanted nothing more at that point than for him to sleep it all off and never have to witness gory scenes like they had earlier that day. He was her treasure, the only thing she had at the moment that reminded her of Dan, he was her responsibility now and she was going to protect him with all she had. Now that she was looking very closely, she realized how similar they looked, her son and Dan. He had most of Dan's features, from the shape of his nose to that of his eyes, and then his brows. She heard a grunt in the bedroom that snapped her out of her thoughts, and she immediately got to her feet, hurrying into the bedroom.

Rachel had finally regained consciousness and was groaning and rolling on the bed where she had been strapped on. She neednt worry about the wound on her head as Alicia had taken care of it, she had never intended to hit that hard, only enough to knock Rachel out, but the adrenaline that flowed in her at that moment had made her hit harder than she wanted and although she went unconscious, she also scared her head and it bled a little. She had quickly dropped by in the nearest pharmacy and picked up some bandages and wound dressers and treated her with it, the pharmacy was opened and empty with no one in it. That didn't stop her from placing the fee on the counter before she walked out to join her son in the truck.

Rachel eyes finally opened and the first thing it caught was Alicia looking down at her from the edge of the bed. She was furious that somebody she had helped could have done that to her, she had attacked her from nowhere and she didn't even expect it. There was something about betrayal that drove her nuts, ever since her parents had left her to stay with her grandmother without visiting her for over four years, she had hated people. That was the biggest betrayal she had felt and as her life moved on, she had witnessed a ton of them, bit she always made sure that they paid for it. The last person that had backstabbed her that way was Nikita and she had never forgiven her, but this was even different, it was the first time she had showed compassion after a very long time and still she met with the same fate. She watched Alicia take some slow steps towards her, her hands folded over her bosom.

It was hard for her to figure out the motive of the girl lying on the bed Alicia thought, she had saved them from the fallen and even killed two of them in the process, even though she worked for Zion, she had driven in the opposite direction when she had them in the truck, driving speedily like she was running away from something. She needed to figure out what her truè intentions were for the sake of her child and the box.

"What do you want?" Alicia started, her gaze fixated on Rachel's face.

Rachel grunted and turned to look at what was pinning her down, she sighed when sje saw the rope circled around her arm and legs and turned to Alicia, her gaze furious.

"You think tying me down is enough to prevent me from getting out of here?" She scorned as her head hurt and this made her more furious as she realised that she was hurt. You must know very little of me and what I am capable of. Don't think I'm nice because I helped you get away from those creatures, because I'm not and I am going to make you regret doing this to me.

Alicia shook her head, her hands still folded as she walked back to the foot of the bed. I know everything about you Rachel, all your capabilities and everything you can do. I also know that you work for Zion and are one of the gifted.
Rcahel was stunned when she heard her call out her name, who was she and how did she know about the gifted? She was no regular person as she had suspected and she realized that she had made a mistake not reading the womans mind much earlier.

If yoi know what I can do, you should know that it will be of no use tying me down here as i can make you untie me just by staring at you and manipulating your mind. She placed her gaze on Alicia and tried to manipulate her mind.
Alicia kept her gaze on Rachel as she watched her try. You know so little about the world around you now, don't you? She stated.

Alicia walked towards her and sat on the bed beside her, she raised her hand and moved it towards Rachel's head. Rachel protested and tried to move away but she was stuck to a point. Alicia placed her hands slowly on Rachel's head and caressed it slowly. Rachel stared at her in anger and frustration, and as much as she hated it, it made her feel much more easy.

Zion must have put you all locked up in a castle and train you guys like you are not human, he must have taught you that showing basic human emotions meant you are weak, but he is wrong, he always had been." She stopped and turned to look at Rachel. "He used that same trick on me decades back when we were together. You know, I had loved him so much that on some nights I would get lost in his eyeballs and imagine the life we would live on this new planet. But he wanted more, far more than even our minds could imagine but I didn't, all I wanted was him and I begged him, but you know men, once they have thier minds set on something, they do all they can to get it."

Rachel stared at Alicia as her mind raced in thoughts and her eyes suddenly widened in shock.

"You are her, aren't you? The one Zion calls out for every night in his sleep, the one he had searched every nook and corner of the earth for. But, how? You're dead, Nikita told us that you had died in the fourteenth century. How are you still here? And now you have a son?"

Alicia smiled. "Two sons, I have two sons. Zion might not have known it at that time because I left him when I was pregnant and had to escape from the hunters that chased me down to kill my son. He was an anomaly you know, the son of a Fallen and a guardian."

Rachel stared at Alicia wondering getting further confused. She was a guardian? How did she end up on earth and why was she not involved in the fight to stop Zion, or was she?

"...At the end, I had to do what every mother would have dreaded, I kept him in a cryogenic pod that froze every single cell in his body and handed it over to a caretaker who I had trusted to keep a low profile and keep the pod safe for at least five thousand years when everything had died down and it was safe for him again. I had instructed her to take him to loving humans who would raise him and give him all the love I couldn't."

Rachel was stunned at this revelation and wondered what was happening. This was something she had never expected and she didn't know how to react. She turned to look at the door that led to the sitting room. The other son must be somewhere in the apartment.

"And him, whose son is he?" Rachel asked, gesticulating at the door.

"He is Dan's son." Alicia replied.

"Dan?" Rachel asked. Of course she had heard right, she just wanted to be clear before her kind drifted off track. "You mean Zion's brother Dan?" She asked, taking a deep breath.

"Yes."

Rachel let out the breath, this woman was in so much mess than she could put her head around.

"Don't judge me." Alicia quickly imputed. "I met Dan just recently and I fell in love with him almost instantly. He was sweet and was a complete opposite of Zion. I couldn't help it. He doesn't know about my past with Zion and I hope to keep it that way."

Rachel seemed calmer now, but she still had a lot of questions. "There is no way Zion would not have found you, because he looked everywhere for you."

"Yes, I know, and it's true, I died."

Rachel stared at her again, expecting an explanation to follow suit.

"It was after I died that I realized that not only fallen could possess bodies on earth, even guardians could, but unlike fallen, the bodies we possess do not remain the same way till we leave, the bodies dead guardians possessed grew old and weak and we remained stuck with it till they die and only then could we move to another body."

"We?" Rachel questioned. "There are more of you?"

"There were, but they all got fed up of living through the agony of the body they possessed and decided to return to Orca instead where they were given a grand staff for the job done when they lived. It is a secret they took to the grave and I am the last that knows about it. That is why Zion was not able to recognize me when we met."
Rachel raiser her head and stared at Alicia, she tried to confirm her story by looking into her eyes, but she couldn't. All she saw was the life of the body she had possessed, up till the time she possessed it, and then, nothing more.

"Why are you telling me this?" Rachel asked.

"Because i know how you feel. Zion must have nurtured your skills and made you feel like you were the most powerful being in the world. That is the mistake most of your ancestors also had made, they had always thought that they were the only ones with gifts and most of them misused it. Sorry to hurt your feelings, but mind manipulation might be a gift to you, but defending yourself from it is something that can be easily learnt and I have learnt it for decades that it no longer works on me."

Rachel tried again but also failed this time, she slapped her inner head when she realized that her manipulation wasnt working, she fell back on to the bed wondering what was happening and if she was even special anymore. This was the second person she was not able to manipulate and that meant that there would be more out there who were immune to her gift. She sighed and tried to think of a way out of the situation.

"I helped you get away from the fallen soldiers when they came for you. That should show you that I am not here to harm you. Now i dont know what the deal is between you and Zion, but i assure you that i have no longer have anything to do with it" Rachel spoke, staring at the white coated ceiling.

You dont expect me to believe that now, do you? Zion works in tricky ways, and for all i know, this might just be one of his tricks. I would ask you though, the box, what does it do?"

Rachel stared at Alicia confused. "What box?"
Alicia walked out of the rooms and back it, bringing the box out of the cloth it was wrapped in."This box."

Rachel stared at it but didn't know what it was. "If it is a box, why not just open it to find out what is in it?"

"I can't, Dan said I have to wait till the day of alignment to open it."

Rachel scorned and chuckled. "Even after living for so long, there are still things you don't know. I guess I should not be feeling bad for myself then."

Alicia stared at the box for a while before replacing it in the cloth. She to Rachel and pondered between leaving her that way or letting her go, she had determined that she was not on Zion's side, at least at that point, but she knew that most of them swore allegiance to him and it only took standing face to face for that to return. She decided that the former was wiser, she was not sure how Rachel would react if she let her go at that moment, she looked like an unstable person, and might throw a fit if she let her go. That would put them in a bad place as it was already night and they had nowhere to go at that point.

"I would let you go in the morning." Alicia spoke and made to leave.

"There is no way you are leaving me to sleep like this." Rachel screamed.

There was a loud rustle downstairs and they both froze. Alicia ran to the parlour and grabbed her son, bringing him into the room. The rustle became louder and she heard some grunts, she knew what they were, fallen soldiers. She gripped her son's head and held it closer to herself as adrenaline suddenly began to flow through her again.

"You have to let me go. I am the only one that can fight them." Rachel whispered on the bed.

Alicia turned to her, she was very tempted to let her go, but she still had second thoughts, the rustle became louder and there were screaches as she heard things break and table collapsed before it all went silent. She walked towards the door and placed her head on it. She had a foot step walking through the corridor, growing louder with every stride and stopping in front of their apartment.

What a twist!
So Zeke and Aemilia are siblings... didn't see that coming.
I actually thought they'd both fall for eachother like on fairy tales.
Now my fingers are pointing at Rachel.

Nice one, Franklin.

CHAPTER THRITY SEVEN

Dan walked out of the car and shut it behind him, quickly scanning the area. The last place Justin had put his wife’s truck was right at that spot, where they were standing, and in the middle of nowhere. They had been about fifteen minutes behind their truck and that meant fifteen of them disappearing in any direction from their current point. From the map, there were at least three different direct route they could reach and gone through within those fifteen minutes, and each of them led to four consequent routes and the four each led to another three of theirs and so on, it was a dead journey and was like searching for a needle in a haystack, except you didn’t know which haystack and there were at least fifty of them. He groaned in frustration and turned back to the others who were just stepping out of the car.

Justin stepped out of the car slowly, his gaze still on his laptop as he clicked frantically nonstop into it, he placed the PC on the top of the car and continued, not noticing the death stare Dan was sending in his direction. Seth also followed suit and also shut the door behind him.

“It is getting harder to track them down, it’s late and the images I am receiving are not clear enough to mena anything and from what i cane see, they could be anybody trying to get out of the city too.” Justin spoke sighing.

He removed his gaze from his computer screen for the first time in a while and looked around, there was nothing in the long distance as far as he could see, and from their position, the only thing they could hear was the constant screeching of fallen as they hunted for people and things to drain and destroy. His gaze stopped on Dan’s face and that was when he saw his stare, his eyes, even in the dark was bloodshot and his face was squeezed.

Seth sighed, placing both hands on the top of the car and looking at both of them. “Maybe we should take a rest and set out tomorrow?” He suggested and Dan turned his gaze to him.

Dan couldn’t believe his ears, Seth had not just suggested that he left his family out there in the open without protection and in the company of Zion’s puppet just so they could rest.

“So you want me to leave my family out there and take a nap with you just because you are tired of seating through a long ride?” He scoffed, it had even sounded worse now that he had said it. “No one asked you to come with us, you could have just returned to the others and gotten on the ship out of here and back to the forest where you had always been safe. You would have had time to catch all the sleep you wanted on the ride back instead of scammpering around and helping a friend look for his family.”

Seth went quiet and turned to look away from Dan, he didn’t look even a bit remorseful and only lowered his head and did something with his feet. Justin cleared his throat after watching Dan’s outrage and knew that it was the cue he needed to do something. He got back to his system and began clicking into it again, trying his best to find clearer pictures, or something that pointed in the direction they had gone. Seth raised his gaze a moment later and it caught an abandoned building just a few metres to their position, it looked like the perfect place, and he also had the perfect excuse that fitted their current situation.

“Well, while you figure out the next step, I would like to go ease myself behind that building.” He spoke walking away before anyone could say anything.

Justin raised his head and turned to Dan alarmed, hoping that he would stop him at the very least, but he didn’t, he didn’t even turn to look at him.

“I don’t think it is a wise thing to separate at this point, those things are out there and they would rip you apart if they get the chance. Staying together gives us a better chance against them.” He screamed after Seth.

Seth raised his hand in the air and waved at him with the back of his hand. “Don’t worry, I can take care of myself.” He replied, disappearing into a corner of the building.

Dan shook his head and turned towards Seth, something was definitely wrong with him, he just wasn’t in the right mind at that point to think much about it. He folded his hands and looked away, back into the darkness hoping to get a sign on the direction they had taken.

“Something is not right about this one.” He murmured under his voice, but Justin heard the mumble and raised his head at Dan.

“What?” He asked switching between between the PC and Dan’s face.

“Is there no way you can figure out where they went without using an image search from the CCTV?” Dan spoke, ignoring his earlier statement.

Justin sighed, racking his brain. The only way was using the vehicle’s IP. Yes, that was it. He quickly turned to his PC and began clicking into it. Dan saw the excitement on his face and took a few steps towards him, looking over his shoulders and into the PC.

“Bingo.” Justin screamed, immediately covering his mouth when he realized he had spoken to loudly.

“You found them?” Dan asked.

“No, but I found the position of the vehicle they were in. It is static and just few miles away. I hope they are still there and have not dumped it.”

“There is only one way to find out.” Dan replied getting into the car.

Justin quickly packed up and got into the backseat as Dan started the car.

“Seth?” Dan asked, starting the car and putting it into gear.

Justin turned to look in the direction he had gone. “I sent him a ping.” He should have been here.

Dan grunted in frustration, hitting the steering in anger. Seth showed up a moment later and got into the front seat, all eyes on him.

“You found them?” He asked as soon as he got in.

“Yes.” Justin replied. He couldn’t have such glorious moment taken away from him.

*

Zion’s head of security barged into Zion’s new office in a hurry. Zion turned to look at him, his gaze anxious and waiting for a good news.

“Xiu just sent a ping, they found her.”

Zion shut his eyes and sighed in relieve. He got to his feet. “Get everyone on his position, follow them closely but remain out of sight. Once you confirm their position, take them all out and retrieve the box immediately. It all ends tonight.”

The head of security nodded. “He also said that the other group might be planning to sneak out of the city to get on a ship and go back to the forest.”

Zion smiled. He suddenly felt relieved. If he played his card right, it could truly be over tonight.

“Let them escape the city.”

His head of security turned to him. Trying to figure out if he heard right.

“Locate the ship, it should be somewhere on the sea.” Zion continued. “We came in through the western part, search the eastern sea, find them and take over the ship. Immediately they get on it, blow them all up into pieces and feed the fishes of the waters there skins.”

His head of security cleared his throat. “Don’t you want me to save her at least?”

Zion scorned, he knew who he was referring to. “Aemeliana seized to be my daughter a very long time ago since she allowed herself to be forced into that fraternity. You don’t know how hard it has been watching my only offspring being made to chase after me and trying her best to bring me down. I have been quite understanding of her, but I’m too close to my goal to let anything or anyone stop me. To me Amy died immediately I left the first planet and whoever this is, she is just one of my foes that needs to be crushed once and for all.”

His head of security sighed and nodded, walking out of the room.

*

“Now.” The girl in black muttered and the rest hurried across the ship’s deck trying to avoid the light radiating from the port’s light house.

The all hid behind a container and she motioned to the man. He got up slowly and hurried away from them while the girl in black stood watch. Her gaze caught that of Hermione and she smiled weakly, holding her hands.

“It would soon be over”. She muttered, squeezing her hands slowly.

Hermione smiled weakly, her pale face telling that she was not in any bit fine. The girl in black’s heart broke and she prayed deeply that at the end of it all, they would both be alive to go on a trip to somewhere far away where they could enjoy the sunlight in the first planet.

The man soon returned and bent beside the girl in black.

“There are two boats on the west wing and we can take on the guards there. If we move now, we should be able to get to the ship in thirty minutes.”

The girl in black sighed and let go of Hermione’s hand. She turned to the man.

“We will have to spilt into two groups ten; you will head one and I will head the other, we will both move out and meet on the ship.”

The man nodded and walked over to the others to tell them the plan.

*

"You have to let me go. I am the only one that can fight them." Rachel whispered on the bed.

Alicia turned to her, she was very tempted to let her go, but she still had second thoughts, the rustle became louder and she heard painful screeches which she immediately figured were from fallens. There was a lot of ruffle below them and they could hear wood break amongst other things before it all went dead silent. They all waited for a while but still heard nothing. Alicia placed her kid on the bed beside Rachel and walked slowly towards the door of the room.

“What are you doing?’ Rachel muttered quietly on the bed, wiggling to get out of her hold. “Stay away from the door and let me loose.” She stated in frustration.

Alicia ignored Rachel and walked towards the door, placing her head on it. She listened carefully and that was when she heard it; footsteps walking through the corridor, growing louder with every stride and stopping in front of their apartment.

She gasped and walked away from the door slowly. She quickly reached for a small piece of wood she could use to defend herself and waited for the next move of whoever was on the other side. The door banged loudly and the wood came flying in, displacing her of her fighting stance. She quickly raised her head and wanted to attack first when she saw Zeke standing in front of her, his gaze fixed on her.

“Hey.” Rachel called out from the room. “Are you okay?”

Alicia sighed staring at Zeke, she had never been so relieved to see somebody like she was at that point and she slowly let go the wood she had been holding.

I walked through the corridor trying to follow the stench of Rachel’s blood, my hand hurt from the piercing I had goten while fighting against the fallen downstairs, they had been canvassing the apartment and I knew that they must have seen someone get into it. I had found the truck earlier in the building and I knew that Rachel was not that far away anymore.

I stopped when I got to the apartment the stench was concentrated in and I could hear some ruffle in it. I didn’t know what to expect from the other side, but I knew I was that I was not leaving that apartment without Rachel. I sighed and let go of my hurting arm and aimed for the doors handle, i hit as hard as i could and the door went flying in. Then I saw her, a human and not a fallen, bending to avoid the door crashing on her. She raised her head and I saw her face, Alicia. I was surprised and didn’t know if I was seeing right or not. I had never expected her to be there at that moment. If she was, was Dan and the others around too?

A voice came from the inner room and I recognized it, that was Rachel.

“Hey.” She called out from the room. “Are you fine?” She shouted again. “Let me off this and let me help you.”

I turned to Alicia who looked very relieved to see me, my gaze questioning. She smiled and walked towards me, reaching for my shoulders and patting it.

“I am so happy you all made it out of there.” She turned to look at the door as if expecting someone else to show up. She turned to me after a while. “Where are the others?”

It was the exact same question I had wanted to ask her. ‘Where were the others’. It had been on my mind since I had flew off the the sea’s bank just before the explosion. I knew Dan and Seth would be fine because they were not at the point when the explosion occured, but what about the girl in black and the others?

I shook my head replying to Alicia’s question and her arm slowly fell off my shoulders. I walked into the living room, walking past her and into the bedroom where Rachel’s had been coming from. I found Rachel in the room, tied down to the bed and Dan’s kid sleeping beside her. Rachel raised her head and i could see the shock and surprise that was written all over her face when she saw me.

“Zeke?” She asked, as if wanting to confirm if I was actually there.

I hurried over to her and reached for her holds, loosening it around her arm when Alicia walked into the room.

“No.” She is one of Zion’s people.

“I know.” I replied her, continuing to loosen Rachel's hold.

I could feel her gaze on me as I loosen her arms and legs, Rachel, she stared at my face like it was the first time she had seen me and as soon as i let go of her last leg, an awkward silence ensued.

“You know each other?” Alicia asked, staring at both of us. “How?” She persisted staring at our faces like she would read the answers off of them.

I turned to her, trying my best to avoid her question. “You have not heard from Dan and the rest yet?”

Alicia shook her head and sighed. “When was the last time you saw them?” She questioned.

“When he and Seth went looking for you in the mansion.” I replied, turning to face Rachel who was rubbing her arm. I saw the bandage on her head and realized where the blood stain on the log of wood had been from.

“Typical Rachel. Everywhere she goes, trouble follows.” I said smiling at her. I didn’t know why, but it felt so good to see her once again.

She raised her head and glared at me but I could have swore that her cheeks turned pink, she rolled her eyes and returned her attention to her arm, a small smile forming just at the corner of her mouth.

Alicia frowned and stared at me. “How?”

I cleared my throat and got to feet. “In a situation very similar to this, only that she was doing the torturing and i was at the receiving end.” I replied.

Alicia still stared at both of us confused. There was a sudden creak outside and we all froze. I hurried towards the window and looked out of the apartment. Another car was parking in front of the building and i watched as three men walked out of it. I couldn’t see their face because it was dark, but there was only one person i knew that always carried a PC and a backpack about, Justin. The men walked into the light radiating from one of the remaining working street lights and I could see their faces clearly at that point. Dan and Seth were also there. I smiled and turned back to the ladies who were all staring at me expectantly, Rachel was already on her feet and had a funny fighting stance while Alicia already had her kid in her arm.

“ You can lower your guard now.” I turned to Alicia smiling. “Dan is here.”

CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN (CONTD)

*

“Over there.” One of the men paddling the boat shouted. “I can see the ship over there.”

The girl in black stood and raised the antenna of the walkie talkie, trying to establish connection with the ship.

“One. Zero. Eight. Two. Two. Can anybody hear me?” There was a long static on the other side and no response. She sighed and went again. “Can anybody hear me?” But still received no response.

She changed the frequency and spoke into the mouthpiece again. “Boat two, confirm yourposition.” There was along static before a voice finally came through.

“Boat two here, we are now boarding the ship.”

“What about the tower, did you try to establish a signal with the ship befire boarding?”

“Yes, I did, but got no response. We saw nothing unsual and figure out it was probably because they had gone into DEFCON.”

The girl in black squeezed her face, even if they were in DEFCON, they were still suppose to hear them and reply. Something felt off. She turned to the men paddling and motioned them to stop paddling.

“Boat two, do you see anything unusual on the ship?” She waited for a while before a response came.

“No, nothing unusual. There are soldiers standing on the deck and I can see the captain waving at us from his cabin.”

Something still felt off to the girl in black, walking through the deck in port and finding the ship had been too easy, they had not even met with a single resistance. She sighed and turned to the people in the ship. They all looked frustrated and didn’t know or care to know what she was on about.
Maybe she was overthinking, she thought to herself, she really needed to rest and take a long nap. She motioned to the men and they started paddling again.

They reached the ship and were helped by the others to board on. The girl in black raised her head as soon as she was on deck and looked around. She saw the soldiers the man had earlier told her off, they were standing on the top deck but not moving, not even slightly. She couldn’t see their faces from where she stood because the ship’s lighting had been turned off. Something definitely did not feel right. She reached for her pocket and pulled out a torch, turning it on and pointing it in the direction of the soldiers. He heart raced at what she saw. Their throats had all been slit and they were standing with the support of the side rack.

“It’s a trap.” The girl in black shouted, turning to face the man. “We have to get everyone off the ship now.”

They man picked up the metal ladder and started lowering it as chaos broke out. The girl in black rushed to assist him, but it was too late.

The timer counted down and the ship exploded right under them.

Alicia held on to Dan tightly and didn’t want to let go. He also held on to her as the rest in the room watched. Justin approached me and smiled at him.

“It is so nice to see you again.” He said pulling in for a hug. “Do you know what happened to the girl in black and the rest?”

I shook my head and sighed. “Hopefully, they also found a safe haven like we did and got out before the mess broke out.”

I had noticed that Rachel had been staring at Seth suspiciously since they had walked in and I wondered what it was all about.

“So, what now?” I asked. “Zion has taken over the last stronghold and the day of alignment is tomorrow. He pretty much has everything under wraps right now.”

Dan let go of Alicia and it was then he turned to look at the rest of the people in the room. He stared at Rachel and I could see that he didn’t feel very comfortable around her.

“Thank you.” He finally said. “We owe you our lives.”

I turned to look at Rachel wondering what she had done. Our gaze met and she rolled her eyes again. Dan turned to me.

“We still have one final card on the plate and we must protect it till the moment of allignment.”

I could see the confusion on everyone’s face. As we waited for Dan to explain what he meant. He reached for the cloth wrapped around his wife neck and pulled out a box from it.

“This.”

“What is that?” Justin quickly asked.

“The box of yerevan.” Dan replied. “It had the power to end this once and for all.”

Justin took a few steps towards Dan taking a closer look at the box in his hand. “How?”

Dan turned to look at his wife before proceeding. “Over ages, a lot of thing have threatened to put an imbalance to the way things have been and that was why the creators created this box. It works like a reset button and during the moment that darkness threatens the most, if it is unlocked, it reset everything.”

I for one did not understand anything Dan had said.

“A reset button? Like a button that takes things back to the way it is supposed to be?” Justin asks. Of course he was always the smartest one in the room.

“Yes, it purges out every single foreign entity on the planet it is opened and protects it for a century, as long as it remains on that planet.”

Alicia took a few steps towards Dan. “So you mean is that it practically kills everything that is not supposed to be there at that moment?” She couldn’t believe that Dan had put that burden on her. He had literally told her to kill him without her even knowing.

Dan turned to her remorseful. He sighed. “I know...”

Alicia raised her hand, cutting him as she walked out of the room in shock. “I can’t you would have done that to me.” She muttered as she left.

I couldn’t believe it too, not the part where he made her do it, but the part that such a thing existed and what it meant to the new world. That meant that all the fallen, no matter where they were would be wiped off and everything would be brought to an end. I wondered how it affected the guardians and I asked Dan.

“No, the guardians are servants of Orca, their souls have been made pure and they are protected against it.”

I sighed and turned to the rest who seemed to also be caught in between. Dan sighed and walked out of the room, probably to go meet Alicia.

“Well.” Rachel spoke. “Maybe there is actually a reality where Zion doesn’t win. Right Xiu?” She spoke turning to Seth.

The name sent impulses down my spine and i reflexly turned to the direction she was facing. I could also see Justin’s reaction as he also turned to face Seth.

“You don’t mean Xiu, Xiu, right? Like not Xiu the master of disguise?” Justin spoke, stammering.

“You really were so good with disguise, but you always forget that i can point you out from any distance.” Rachel spoke again, folding her arm.

Seth smiled and burst into a loud chuckle. “You are really good, I will give you that.”

Dan and Alicia walked back into the room wondering what was happening. Seth ran his hand over his face and he was no longer ther, an entirely new person stood in front of us. Dan rushed to him, gripped his cloth and lifted him towards the wall.

“I knew something was not right. What have you done with Seth?” He asked angrily.

Xiu laughed again, seeming unperturbed. “You mean your friend that was screaming out your name as he was being whisked away but you couldn’t hear him because all you wnated was to get your family?” He chuckled again. “He is probably at the bottom of the ocean by now. And maybe his soul back in Orca.”

Dan grunted in anger hitting him on his face with all he had and leaving him to fall to the ground. “We are leaving now.” He said to us.

Xiu got on his feet, spitting out blood. “I don’t think that is wise, you are already surrounded.”

I quickly walked towards the window and saw them. Thousands of fallen, as far as my gaze could go, standing around of the building silent.”

“It's simple now.” Xiu continued. “Your life for the box.”
