Does it mean that our army no longer has Recce (reconaissance) troops that move ahead of the main troops to be sure all is well in terrains like that? What has our army become please? I know of 245 Recce batallion at Gariki Enugu. Dnt we have such trained Recce troops again? Why would you send soldiers into a hilly and rocky terrain without adequate Recce operations ahead of them? Our army has gone to the dogs!!! They deliberately sent those young men to die. They know what they are doing.

@ OP. there is really no sympathy to express for uniformed agents of oppression which is what the Nigerian Military and Police are. The soldiers are the ones who would stop traffic at Yaba and oppress innocent civilians. Now when they go before a real, live and armed adversary, they are killed like christmas turkeys.
