FG releases N15bn to Police for 2011 polls

LAGOS — The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr Hafiz Ringim, weekend, disclosed that over N15 billion had been released to the Nigeria Police Force to purchase equipment and other necessary logistics, with a view to ensuring a successful general elections come April.

The sum, he said, also included retraining of policemen, pointing out that officers and men of the Force would have no excuse if they failed to deliver the expected result.

The Inspector-General of Police made the disclosure while addressing journalists at the passing out parade of 1,074 Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police, ASPs, Specialists Course 1, at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to him, “it is on recorded that the Federal Government has given the Inspector-General of Police more than N15 billion for the purchase of equipment, to train manpower, purchase other necessary logistics and to pay the allowances of men and women of the Force that will take part in the 2011 general elections.

“The Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, the men and women of this great service have no excuse or whatsoever and we will not fail. Come 2011 general elections, there will be free, fair executed general elections. We have shown the world, we have shown the people of this country that we are capable, from what is done in the primaries so far.”

Ringim also promised that the police would not take side during the forth coming general elections, adding: “I assure all Nigerians of peaceful general elections. You have seen what the police did during the parties’ primaries; no police person was accused of supporting one candidate against another.

“In same manner, the police will not take side with any political party or candidates. We shall provide security for all during and after elections.”

The IGP said the injection of the new police officers into the Force would, no doubt, improve the investigation of cases, particularly scientific cases.

Is there a concrete plan on how this money will give better security during the polls. In Nigeria we believe just budgeting money will solve our problems.

The Entrainment Industry package is a loan to be repaid attracting standard term and conditions. While the release of funds to Police is another kettle of fish - an allocation. which might end up not serving its purpose!

So what? Don't be silly abeg. To be repaid? He is clueless. A normal president wouldn't spend 30 billion on entertainment. You say to be repaid over time? That is the silliest thing i've ever read. Who would repay it? How much do movies and artistes make? How would they rake in a billion, let alone 30 billion? Please reason properly before you post silly things.

Nobody is complaining about the amount. You probably won't be going to the polls given your comment. We are very serious about the security of lives during the next election because we will be casting our votes. ! Are  you aware of the bombings and killings going on? If you do, you won't undermine security for the next polls.

We need to know what the government is deploying in terms of security.

We are not worried about the money. It can be lower or higher!!!!

What we are concern about is the purpose it is meant for. Has the Nigeria security agency come up with an holistic plan about how they want to go about solving the security challenges being posed by the next election month?

If it is easy for the FG to announce the amount being given to the Nigeria Police, then I also think it should be easier for them to educate us on how that money will bring about a better police for the next election.

Personally i dn't like security agents publicising their strategy because as they do so are the hudlums devicing their means to counter the security's strategy unproductive. Anyway let's wait to hear from them
