Nigerians are doing exceptionally well outside the country. Most scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, Nigerians are part of the contributors in the international community.

One Samuel Aboki posted on LinkedIn the feat of a Nigerian Igbo lady who was elected into the Canadian legislature after 150 years.

The lady, Uzoma Asagwara is the first black person to have been elected into the Canadian legislature (Manitoba Province) after 150 years. This means for the past 150 years, no black has ever entered into the country’s legislature.

Samuel Aboki who posted it called on Nigerians to celebrate her for that great achievement. And the commendations began to pour in from different place, left, right and centre.

Chukwudi Okoli, a customer support specialist and client relationship officer of a firm, congratulated her for such achievement in a white country.

He wrote: “Congratulations Uzoma, This is a great achievement. I am happy but also sad at the same time because we keep losing our brightest citizens to the Westerners one way or the other.

“The ones born over there refuse to return to their motherland, our brightest minds over here are emigrating to the western world and we end up losing both ways with respect to the development of our country; Nigeria because of only one factor; “A Non-functional system”.

Ugochukwu Nwanguma, a business manager at Advans La Fayette Microfinance Bank, said by 2030 Nigeria population would be more or older citizens than younger ones. Germany is currently experiencing same but for a different reason of non-reproducing while younger immigrants are coming in. I beg if you see same opportunity what would you do?

Tolu Mayowa, a business analyst, said: “What we need in Nigeria is a complete revolution… It’s not what any group of persons can just wake up overnight to do… the truth is that revolution is blood-demanding.”

Bertram Onwuegbule, a pastor with The Redeemed Christian Church of God, noted that “more of our Igbo youths should be encouraged to continue to globally push the frontiers of history, since within Nigeria, the evil irredentists continue to occupy our daily spaces and activities with the retrogressive reshuffling of antiestablishment forces who scuff, dilute and retrogress Nigeria’s developmental agenda for the sake of primordial, beastial chauvinistic pursuits of hackneyed and ignoble revanchist destructions.”

Akintokunbo Adejumo, a principal trainer and consultant, Affinity Libra Ltd, Ibadan and ATA Libra Associates, London, said “I’m particularly proud of her. I was the Master of Ceremonies at her parents wedding back in the 80s in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her father, Prof Prince Ken Asagwara is a friend and brother to me. Congratulations to Uzoma.”

This is good news.

1. Nigerian bought a football club in Europe.
2. A Nigerian is about to represent us in WTO.
3 Now another Nigerian is the first African to be elected in the Canadian legislature.

The good thing is they are all women and this is why we need to put more atttention on the girl child education.

Congratulations to her.

However, the bolded statement is a lie.

—Lincoln Alexander was the first black parliamentarian in Canada as far back as 1968

Zanana Akande (Yoruba) was the first African diaspora woman to be female legislature in canada 1990.

— Jean Augustine, another black was elected 1993

— We also have the likes of Vivian Barbot another female and etc.

Infact Uzoma was elected in 2019 alongside two other blacks named Jamie Moses and Audrey Gordon.

First black?

Ignorance. This is even a Region.

Find out about Lincoln Alexander in the Federal way back!

Lincoln MacCauley Alexander PC CC OOnt CD QC was a Canadian lawyer who became the first black Member of Parliament in the House of Commons, the first black federal Cabinet Minister, the first black Chair of the Worker's Compensation Board, and the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1985 to 1991.

Lincoln Alexander Becomes first Black Member of Parliament

In 1965, Alexander ran in the Canadian federal election as the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the Hamilton West electoral district but was defeated.

He ran again in the 1968 federal election and on June 25, 1968, he won the seat, becoming Canada’s first black Member of Parliament.

Ignorant chest beaters.

You people really need to stop lying, stop peddling fake and inaccurate rubbish.

The first Canadian parliamentarian was elected back in 1968.

Is it even possible that Canada just elected a black person as a parliamentarian in 2020?

Funniest thing is that the first black of African origin to be appointed member of legislative assembly in Canada is a Yoruba woman since 1990.

She represented downtown Toronto.

Her name is Zanana Akande. Her dad migrated to Barbados during those days. Then she married and moved to Canada where they gave birth to Zanana.

Zanana tho late now left behind a son and two daughter. David, Aderonke and Ajike.

Yeah true I always find it difficult when I see Yorubas and Igbos fight each other forgetting who the real enemy is.
Just like Azikiwe and Awolowo were fighting each other while Ahmadu Bello was strategizing how to keep the North in power forever

Let Nigeria be frank to herself, no matter how hard they try to oppress the Igbos, they should know that Igbos are a great people that cannot be shut down because in the scheme of things they matter. Igbos can never be inconsequential.
Igbo Amaka indeed.
