ibromodzi:Holy cow! Man, I went to find out how far they've gone with GPT3, since it's been a while I followed it's development. I must say it's scary and impressive, what the guys at OpenAI have been able to create. So basically GPT3 has the ability to transform English description to codes and that's bad for coders as it signals the beginning of an end to coding, ushering in the No-Code era. I think it's the web developers that are going to get hit the hardest. A shift to a career in AI itself should be considered. But then again, AI only thrives on what we feed it. And the question would be whether AI is creative enough to generate new codes an designs, better than human's. Also, will these codes be bug-free and efficient? Or do we still need to spend hours debugging an fixing them? Which in that instance, would be counterproductive to the original purpose for which it was developed. Interesting times ahead. |

Jobia: Oh, okay. Cool. Same thing here, we were taught a bit of Java in school, I dumped that and now focusing on Python. Maybe later on I could check it out again, though a friend said that python isn't the best language to start programming with. How advance in Python programming are you? Really? I thought it's C++ that's similar to Java. Though I've not tried checking C out. |

XXII: There is no right language to start programming with, you'll only be wasting your time. Best is to find a stack and focus appropriately. At least, this is what I learnt. |

ThreeBlackBird: Oh okay thanks. But in his opinion, he said that starting with Java or C++ is better than with python. That one could easily learn python and some other languages once the person has knowledge of the aforementioned languages. Since I've started with Python already, I'll just focus appropriately as you said. Thanks. |

Grandlord:Now you get the gist. That powerful software is going to affect many developers, not only web devs. It is capable of generating database queries, it can generate machine learning algorithms, source codes, it is capable of writing poem etc... Of course it still has some flaws that they are trying to address. IMO we are still yet to see a truly intelligent system. |

XXII:It isn't. It's simple and base, it's greatest problem. But you can use it for anything, though it will be stressful to use it for web development but yah you still can. |

XXII:C is the grandfather of C++, Java, C# in fact all curly bracket languages out there. If you want to maybe go into embedded systems or operating system development (though you would need assembly language) check it out. |
Re: What Was The First Programming Language You Learned And Why? by Nobody: 8:48am On Aug 14, 2020 |
XXII:Really? I'd say its the opposite, python syntax is relatively easier to grasp. As a beginner it's less likely to scare you away from programming. I'd say intermediate. What area of python programming are you into? |

Jobia: Python is probably the easiest programming language to learn and is in high demand. People who know python get compensated more than people who use c++ . |

Re: What Was The First Programming Language You Learned And Why? by XXII: 10:11am On Aug 14, 2020 |
Jobia: Yeah I agree with that. Python syntax is very easy. At least easier in comparison to Java. Also the lines of code are less. But he was like, one wouldn't get the entirety of programming, starting with Python. Something like you can easily learn Python if you have knowledge of Java, but the same isn't the case for vice versa. Anyway, I've decided to stick with Python for now. Okay, that's cool. I hope to use Python for ML, AI and the likes. I've not yet gone fully into that though. Wby? |
