ROSSIKE is pathetically stuck in the 70s. I guess we have to wait some decades for him to catch up with his reading. In the meantime, those of us that dont think in terms of BLACK AFRICANS and such whatnot can focus on Leapfrogging the West.

ROSSIKE is pathetically stuck in the 70s. I guess we have to wait some decades for him to catch up with his reading. In the meantime, those of us that dont think in terms of BLACK AFRICANS and such whatnot can focus on Leapfrogging the West.

Stay there in your naivete talking crap. The west think in terms of ''white caucasian''. Asians think in terms of ''Asian ascendancy''. But blacks? ''Nah. Just forget you are black and have anything unifying you. Just run out into the world like headless chickens each doing his own thing.''

What YOU need to do rather than run your mouth here is study what other races do, NOT just watch and admire their achievements, but study HOW they managed to initiate and co-ordinate the process that got them to where they are. In every instance you will find undergirding their path, a unifying ideology, be it the Protestant Work Etrhic in the case of caucasians, islam in the case of Arabs, or Confucianist principles in the case of Asians. PRIOR to their adoption of these unifying ideologies, each of those races was floundering, lost between corruption and anarchy.

Now stop mouthing off and LEARN a thing or two from others, as opposed to just listening to yourself.

@wedapeople Ignore him. he's here criticising african leaders and he's elsewhere supporting mugabe. he's confused.

Actually, YOU are confused if you think an African leader like Mugabe should allow his country to be owned by a 3% white minority with blacks eternal peasants and slaves on it. You lack any concept of being  an African as shown by your earlier comment, so it comes as no surprise you are easy prey for foreign oppressors and land grabbers. It is your type, who cannot differentiate between African and western interests, that we need to be rid of.

@Rossike

Seems like you are a professor still stuck in the history cubby hole writing white papers to make impressive speeches.
You say I don't know what being an African means.
Educate me since you really know.
What the heck is being an African?
What exactly does that have to do in asking for a government that is productive?
ARE YOU THAT BACKWARDS THAT YOU CAN'T SEE THAT YOUR COUNTRY IS BEING ROBBED BLIND?
EVEN YOU IN YOUR PREVIOUS STATEMENT SAID THAT YOU WILL RATHER LEAVE THE FULL POCKETS(LEADERS THAT HAVE STOLEN ENOUGH MONEY) IN PLACE RATHER THAN REPLACE THEM WITH EMPTY POCKETS.
MY FRIEND YOU DO HAVE A VERY DANGEROUS PARADIGM, WHAT YOU ARE TELLING THE WORLD IN A NUTSHELL IS THAT THERE IS NOT EVEN A SINGLE SOUL IN YOUR COUNTRY THAT CAN SERVE WITHOUT STEALING. NOT EVEN YOU

PEOPLE, DON'T THINK COLONIZATION IS OVER. IT ONLY TOOK  BREAK EVEN THOUGH MOST COUNTRIES ARE STILL MENTALLY COLONIZED. HERE IS A SIMPLE SCENARIO TO GET THE BLINDERS OFF- IF A COUNTRY DECIDES TO RUN YOUR COUNTRY OVER , WHAT'S GOING TO STOP THEM. WHO WILL COME TO FIGHT ON YOUR BEHALF IF YOU ARE SO AFRAID TO ASK FOR SIMPLE GOOD GOVERNANCE FROM YOUR OWN PEOPLE. LET ME GUESS WHAT YOUR REBUTTAL WILL SAY, THE WORLD WILL NOT STAND-BY TO SEE THAT HAPPEN. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS WHY NOT. Other countries are working hard to build up but for the weak and complacent people don't write off getting run over. It could happen and you will be suffering badly while UN is talking about your fate. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF AND I KNOW YOU KNOW THAT. TIME TO STOP SLEEP WALKING AND GET OF THE WHITE THESIS POT

What is  happenng all round everywhere but Africa south of the Sahara is  demand for change. The type of the government is irrelevant. What is relevant is the productivity of leadership that affetct quality of life.
Read the article  below to get a handle on the driving force behind the demand and see for yourself if this is similar to your country.

Imad Sharif in the Iraqi Communist newspaper Tariq al-Sha'ab
The air is full of slogans such as "Scrap the regime!", "Reform the regime!" or "Down with the Colonel!" because many people in our part of the world want bread, freedom, jobs and equality as they can no longer stand being downtrodden and discriminated against by a few cliquish individuals who insist on monopolising wealth, power and influence even as the disenfranchised majority continue to live in intolerable squalor and destitution. The wonderful bug of change has already been caught by several Arab countries and will soon infect the rest, for our region is too infested with grievances to be immune to the fast-spreading contagion of change
THE SOURCE DOES NOT MATTER. THE SUBSTANCE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!!!

Re: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by cap28: 11:24pm On Feb 23, 2011
wedapeople i understand where you are coming from however, i would like to point out to you some very important obstacles that stand in the way of the black african political and economic emancipation.

We are too divided along ethnic lines - take nigeria, it is very easy for a protest to be put down very quickly in nigeria because northern soldiers will think nothing of killing southerners, do you remember how obasanjo sent troops into Odi and Gbamaratu in the delta region, and do you remember how they reduced those two towns to a pile of rubble within days, who were these soldiers targeting? innocent unarmed, men women and children, imagine what these soldiers would do to a protesting crowd, life is as cheap as hell in nigeria, no-one gives a sh.it about their so called brothers and sisters.

We are still under mental enslavement, the average black african looks up to whitey as his lord and master, we dont even understand that we are at war with them - not necessarily a physical war (not yet anyway) but a spiritual war, many of us are so mentallly crippled that we would sooner run to defend and fight on behalf of a white man than wage war against our real oppressors.

many african nations are not soveriegn nations, we have tin pot puppet leaders who are agents of western imperialism, these people are kept in place by our oppressors, a lot of africans have gullibly bought into this idea that these types of leaders will deliver them out of poverty, economic enslavement to the western financial institutions, and infinite and unrelenting poverty.

My answer to them is ask the people of Haiti, nicaragua, Mexico, Chile and all other repressive regimes where tin pot dictators run countries, you will find the same trend of poverty, repression, and control by western interests. In order to overthrow these corrupt system we have to be ready to face down not onlly the bullets from the tinpot leaders and their soldiers but also the subsequent economic isolation that will come once the west realise that they can no longer control us - do we have the courage to take on such a herculean task?

There are many countries who have walked along this worn path and failed woefully

Can we succeed where many others more courageous than us failed ie Haiti, Nicaragua, Vietnam.

Even the black South africans fought courageously to rid themselves of the white supremacist power structure and still lost - today the economy of south africa remains in the hands of the same white racists

I know you talked about solutions but before you resolve a problem you must first of all understand the root of the problem . We africans have got to get rid of the above main problems as they are crippling us and preventing any meaningful development.
Re: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by wedapeople(f): 9:55am On Feb 24, 2011
@cap28
Thanks for being a Nigerian. Inspite of  all the negatives about Nigerian," I am a Nigerian"  gets people to stop and pay close attention. We are arrogantly true to what we do. We do them very well and take pride in our area of expertise. I don't know what you do for a living, but one thing I know is that you darn well know how to do it very well and everybody around you knows it. The only regrets is that most Nigerians cannot  do what they do for Nigeria yet but are eagerly yearning for the day when they can. PEACEFUL NON-CONFRONTATIONAL  DEMAND FOR CHANGE IS WHAT NIGERIANS  MUST DO TO GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE CAPABILITIES FOR NIGERIA. SIMPLE SIT DOWN (EN-MASSE) DEMONSTRATION WOULD GO A LONG WAY TO GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS. SOLDIERS AND POLICE WOULD BE SENT OUT IN FORCE TO CONFRONT. PROTESTORS SHOULD EXERCISE UTMOST RESTRAINT TO CONFRONTATION. SOLDIERS AND POLICE WILL NOT SHOOT IF THERE IS NO BREAKING AND BURNING OF THINGS. DEMONSTRATORS SHOULD RESTRAIN OTHERS WHO FEEL THE URGE TO CONFRONT FROM THEIR RANKS.  Poor Leadership has confrontation as a weapon of choice to intimidate.  Resorting to any rowdy and confrontational behaviour will only play into their hands,  hence police and soldier riot control. Even if they decide to start killing,  they can never kill all off all Nigerians. Besides they will be killing their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends, associates, school mates, and their children's school mates and friends. NO ONE IN THIS PLANET HAS SUCH A DEAD CONSCIENCE TO EXECUTE SUCH A MISSION. ON THE OTHER, THE FINAL OUTCOME IS THAT NIGERIANS WILL ACHIEVE THE CHANGE AND ALL THOSE WHO COMMITTED THE GENOCIDE WOULD  BE ROUNDED UP AND PROSECUTED. IS ANY SOLDIER OR POLICE WILLING TO DIE TO KEEP A BAD LEADER IN POSITION? KI DON'T THINK SO.
WHAT NIGERIANS MUST DO NOW IS TO DISEMINATE INFORMATION BY ALL AVAILABLE MEDIA TO CALL FOR A DAY OF  CHANGE ACROSS THE COUNTRY. CALL SHOULD STRESS "NON-CONFRONTATIONAL" DEMAND FOR A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP. REASON IS SIMPLE. OUR CURRENT LEADERS DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO BUILD THE NATION. They will try to fight back to test the resolve.  Demonstrators should not fight back but should SIT IT OUT. THERE WOULD BE ARRESTS,  THAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED. NO ONE WOULD SPEAK FOR NIGERIANS UNTIL NIGERIANS START DEMANDING FOR A CHANGE.
ORGANIZATIONS IN NIGERIA ARE WAITING FOR THE BEGINNING OF A DAY OF RAGE (NON-CONFRONTATIONAL IT MUST BE).
FEW THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND WHEN PREPARING ARE (1) THIS IS "JUST" (2) IT IS RIGHT TO HAVE A PROSPEROUS NATION (3) IT IS RIGHTEOUS TO ALLOW NIGERIANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO EXERCISE THEIR SKILLS IN BUILDING NIGERIA (3) IT IS ONLY FURTHER RIGHT THAT THE RESOURCES OF THE NATION BE USED TO BUILD THE NATION. (4) POSTERS SHOULD ALSO REMIND SOLDIERS AND POLICE THAT THEY ARE NIGERIANS AND THE DEMAND IS FOR ALL NIGERIANS INCLUDING THEM. (5) PLAQUES SHOULD REMIND THEM THAT THE MOVEMENT IS NOT OUT TO CONFRONT THE POLICE BUT IT IS  A PEACEFUL DEMAND FOR A BETTER LEADERSHIP THAT WOULD BUILD THE COUNTRY. IF NIGERIANS DON'T ASK FOR THE CHANGE, THEY WILL NEVER GET IT. NOTHING GOOD COMES WITHOUT WORK. IN THIS CASE IT COMES WITH DEMANDING THE CHANGE AND STANDING UP TO THE REBUFF. THEY WILL TASTE THE RESOLVE. JUST LIKE IN LIBYA THE SO CALLED STRONGMAN WHO HAS JUST SHOWN THAT HE IS A VERY WEAK LEADER(ME OR TOTAL DESTRUCTION) IS ON HIS WAY OUT. MAYBE WITHIN THE NEXT 7 DAYS IF HE LASTS THAT LONG. THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE IS INSURMOUNTABLE. THEY STOOD UP TO HIM INSPITE OF ALL THE KILLINGS. BUT NOW HE HAS RAN OUT OF OPTIONS. MAY COMMIT HIS LAST ACT OF VIOLENCE BUT MUST GO LEAVING HIS SONS AND COHORTS BEHIND TO FACE THE REPERCUSSION OF BAD LEADERSHIP. WE MUST STAND UP TO THEM AND WE WILL PREVAIL.
Re: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 11:46am On Feb 24, 2011
I think we are mixing perspectives here. The reason such uprising occur is because of a central dictatorial leadership hierarchy not because Nigeria is advanced politically or that things are now stable in Nigeria. These countries operate a leadership style that centralized core political (thus economic) power to a single or few individuals. that is why when the Corrupt Leader bails, things return to normal and the business of democracy can begin in earnest. (Cut the Snake's head and the Body dies)

For Nigeria it is simply impossible for such uprisings to occur for the following reasons

Chronic Bad Leadership and Governance cannot be traced to one root source simply because in Nigeria, Bad Governance, Corruption, Bad Leadership is a sophisticated INSTITUTION.

An Institution is purposely meant to streamline the best practices of any social, economic, political and religious eco-system into a balanced framework where if each individual working within the guidance of the institution can contribute meaningfully to the general well-being of the eco-system. That is why you have Higher Institutions, Banking Institutions etc. If they were family businesses (like most African Nations are) Uprisings are bound to occur and mostly likely will succeed in toppling the ruling structure simply because you have less people (usually 1 key person) to deal with

in Nigeria, every Politician is a Ghadaffi in his own right (try to make a u-turn in front of a senator's house and see where you end up. i dare you) and because they have undermined the very institution within which they operate, they can prolong their existence thus slowly strangle the benefits of democracy or suppress justice because the weak institutions allow them to. Do you know the funny part of all this. IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL

Try getting an International Travel Passport and notice how many holes exists within the system that allow you to by-pass Instituted Practices to get your Passport in 4 hours (after bribes to officials working within the institution).

Revolutions currently razing the Arab world is not because of corrupt institutions, but because of corrupt leadership. There will never be a revolution in Nigeria simply because we will have to now deal with ourselves as corrupt individuals working within a corrupt institution, sustaining a corrupt leadership. how will you mass a protest against potentially 1 million bad leaders who are actually the bolt and nuts in the wheel that turns this once great nation. HOW?

That is why many Nigerians and Internationals are usually perplexed at the way things work in Nigeria. it is simply a Corrupt Institution so doign away with a bad leader like ABACHA won't solve the problem, (Several Abachas will spring up in several places)

Re: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by wedapeople(f): 8:58pm On Feb 24, 2011
Seems like an insumountable task but trust me  Nigeria can change her future. Poor people resort to graft because of lack of money. Many young Nigerians have attempted even recently to express their dissatisfaction but did not go far enough due to lack of effective coordination and simple theme.  Recent college graduates and others are grossly unemployed. We don't need  to have a one man government focal point to know that that is bad and need changing. I also challenge the notion that there are no persons in Nigeria that can be in leadership role without being corrupt to the bone. That is practically impossible. Maybe the Nigerian of that Nigeria could come from outside the immediate Nigerian boundaries. Persons who have served/benefitted from being in other developed countries. Persons who understand that  a 24 hour electricity would be the ground work for nation building. Persons who understand that the Nigerian Human Capital scattered all over the world is a huge assert that can be harnessed for nation building. Person who understands that Nigerians are contributing tremendously in building the free world out here without resorting to graft. Persons who have been distant from graft. Does Nigeria have those people ,  I bet in thousands all over. As a matter of fact, reading from your response , I suspect you may be one of these rare persons. Then how can Nigerians say ,  non-corrupt Nigerians are extinct.  Here is a suggestion that is doable today. Modern technology is a God sent to equalize the playing field and beleive it or not, that is the reason why the rapid changes are happening. The old school games can't keep up with the speed, henceforth they gasp for last breathe and fall off the cliff. Let start with what we can do today: Seek out information on who is stealing Nigerias money. Find out where they are hiding them. Publish it and demand for it be frozen and returned to the country. If they can't hide it then there won't be any insentive to steal it any more. Moreover the leader will be exposed as a thief. How hard can that be with all Nigerian Experts out here. I challenge anyone and everyone  that has relevant information on any of these corrupt leaders to make it public and see how fast they start to crumble.  If Nigerians can't fight them in the streets, then  fight back for change on the Information & Exposure Highway should start right this moment. Time for extensive talking has long come and gone. Right and Reasonable Action for Change should be the focus of all the discussions. LET'S TAKE THEM DOWN BY EXPOSING THEM, FREEZE AND RETURN ASSETS BACK TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS,  NIGERIANS. CAN WE AT LEAST GET GOING ON THIS OR ARE WE GOING TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER BUNCH OF ACADEMIC REASONS WHY WE SHOULD STILL STAY IN DARKNESS?

we have revolted before with people dying especially in the southwest. June 12 elections occured because we also wanted to remove someone who had been ruling us for 9 years(Babangida, besides 9 years is long in Nigeria). People fought hard and faced tanks and police too. SO nigerians can do it.

While in Babangida's case, we could point at someone, nowadays we realize its a systemic issue so it is relatively much harder to do that.

besides june 12 was also about racial pride being hurt. the people of the southwest felt aggrieved and hence the fighting.

OK everyone, drumroll please, i have discovered the solution to corruption in Nigeria!

transparency, at the state level the governor would make it mandatory for the commissioners, etc. to publish how much money they were allotted in a given month, and what they spent that money on. the records would be made public for scrutiny. this simple transparency law would drastically reduce corruption in Nigeria. because it would bring accountability to the system

the only reason countries like the U.S are not as corrupt as Nigeria is because of transparency. the government officials know they cant get away with it.
so they don't try.

People comeonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!. This is not the time to depend on what the government should do. The system is broke and need fixing. You don't expect a broken system to fix itself. Why do you think it is broken in the first place? Do the math. People the rest of Nigeria that is not with the broken system  have the responsibilty to work towards repairing it or forever live with it. Leave the non-functional goverment alone. You cannot fix corruption. You fix corrupt people and the corrupt system will start to fall apart.
(1) First we go after  digging up relevant information. Example,  the allocation suggested here has a record somewhere( be it public or not).  Let's get them by whatever means possible.
(2) Who ever get's them publishes it. Then let the reponsible recipient sweat it out.
(3) We focus  demand on accountability.
(4) If we are not getting them to quiver, we should find out why and adjust

We set the pace and shift with results.Think this wouldn't make a difference, let's put it to work for the rest of the world to see how effective Nigerians are. We can and I challenge you that you know we can dig up the DIRT.

I believe we can believe in you to make things happen here. This is not a one persons think -tank. It will take all Nigerins of goodwill to make these bad leadership disappear. Comeon people bring on the brainstorm . Let's make it a hurricane and monsoon combined and watch the dust settle for the best for Nigeria.

Trying to force change on a people who are not themselves ready for the kind of change you are offering, is usually counterproductive. From the many responses, I am certain you must have gleaned by now that these people here are not ready for the type of revolution you see out there. So, do continue to preach but know that it is possible it may not be time yet for Nigeria to revolt.
