Op, you have not left Nigeria and you are speaking for the whole of Africa. Your analysis is not fair, it is a well known fact that majority of African countries are not yet up to speed with the online world.

Take Nigeria for instance, how many Companies/Employers or Employees know about LinkedIn? Very few. Africa is still backwards when it comes to internet.

You are free to complain about Nigeria because you are a Nigerian, but the whole of Africa? Haba, you are wrong. Some african countries are doing fine.
Are you insinuating that there are jobs in Nigeria more than what the OP thinks?

Well, it doesn't matter.
People will adjust and find a way to survive.
Some things seem constant in life.
In 1990 when dollars was 7.4 naira and 1999 cement was 500 per bag yet there are more houses now than then, there are more cars on the road than then, there are more Nigerians traveling internationally now than then.
I can bet you, even if dollars go to 3000 naira to a dollar today and bag of cement becomes 10000 naira, there will be more beautiful houses in the next 10/15 years than now and more cars on the road then than now and more flight travellers then than now.
There will be more richer Nigerians then than now because there are more richer Nigerians than Nigerians in 1990 etc
Humans have a way of adjusting to situations.

You don't need to believe me, statistics and figures don't lie

Actually the number of rich nigerians is reducing. As of 2012, there were over 10000. It's now 9800. The same people that were dollar billionaires are still the same people that are dollar billionaires today. No new one was added. Devaluation is also eating off the wealth of richer nigerians especially if their assets are being held in naira. As of 2012, brand new cars were very attainable for upper middle class folks. A new picanto was 1.2 million naira and this was a car I knew some parents would even buy for their children in university. Today, Nigerians can't even afford tokunbo cars and are opting for Nigerian used cars. New car sales in Nigeria have also drastically reduced too.

I agree but then, the economy and people always find a way to survive.
I don't know how they do it or a good explanation for that but from experience, there will be more rich people in 20 years time than now, likewise more buildings and more cars on the road.

I get your point but you cannot say a black man lacks intelligence when same black man goes abroad and excels immensely, the environment plays a huge role not the personal intellect of the person.
The black man doesn't excel in any damn thing.
You think that finishing top of the class in American or European universities is the real excellence? How many of those African Academic gurus go on to make significant impact in any area of life.
The Academic type of education was designed by the whiteman as a weapon of manipulation and control.
We've taken the reins of learning from them but what have we achieved..
We make noise about having Nigerian doctors littered over US, Europe and Saudia Arabia but breakthrough researches in medicine are still led by the whites...
We have few good brains in Naija and all over Africa but we are still nowhere near controlling our national and regional destinies..

Hello bro, are you based in Nigeria or abroad? Just curious. Also, what do you think about getting web design & digital marketing job via LinkedIn. Is it something one can apply to European companies on LinkedIn and get good offers?

This is what i have been preaching to my Yoruba friends. There is no hope in Nigeria, it can only get worse and they are shouting 2023. If we dont make drastic change, sth close to revolution or secession, by 2030, dollar will be N1500 and a bag of rice will be about 100k. Buhari will be tagged saint and if he is alive some people will say lets vote for him again to take us back to 2015. This country, stupppid people are majority.

The Prophecy.

My brother this is the first time i'm seeing someone acknowledging the 16 billion dollars electricity oooo! e come be like say the man used jazz on everybody to forget about it , even dangote's networth is not up to 16billion dollars the last time i checked , and this man said he was scammed. Like who scam 16billion dollars, to which bank , who withdraw it. Men!!!! things dey happen o.

Gerrard59:
Bwahahhahahaha!!!!!!!

OP na comedian grin Anyway, what have you said is actually correct. Let's think about it: in 2000 people complained the woes in the country and said 1990 was better. Those in 2010 complained that the period was bad and 2000 was better. However, within the same 2000 - 2010, Obasanjo squandered resources esp the $16BN on electrification. During the same period, Yar'adua rescinded the sale of derelict refineries and missed phasing out subsidies once and for all. Today, both men are praised and adored. Looking back, people say Jonathan's era was good and there was money. However, same Jonathan had lots of corrupt activities going on in his administration and he just like his predecessor didn't phase out subsidy. Today, Jonathan is better than Buhari.

To be fair, those men governed Nigeria when GDP growth rates exceeded 5% alongside population growth rate. However, the GDP since 2015 has not eclipsed 4% even though population growth continues above same figure. The major foreign earner - crude oil - will never get to $100 pb anytime soon. Meanwhile, the population growth is above GDP growth rate. In 2030, as bad as Buhari is today, the vast majority of Nigerians will praise him because unfortunately, 2030 will be worse. Unless there's a drastic change in the constitution and major decisions are taken, people are bound to be poorer.

The experiences from the past few weeks has really got me thinking.

I hit the job market two weeks back. I was practically looking for certain kind of jobs that required specialised skills. I applied to jobs in Nigeria and I also applied to jobs outside. I used a particular job site which updated jobs sporadically. However, the max number of vacancies for a single day was around 250. Some days could be lower, some days could be higher. Of the 250, half were in sales. Sales, marketing, business development manager kind of jobs. The second half were in some kind of IT field. There were a few engineering jobs here and there though and jobs for doctors. From my experience, this particular site was the best. Other sites had an updated 2, 3 vacancies daily and that was it.
Hi Tenza, please what's the name of this site? I'm at a serious stage of job applications. I await your response, thanks.

Nigeria has cast o. This was back in 2020 hotnigerianjobs. Back then jobs were listed there everyday. Now I think it's max of around 30 new jobs daily posted.

Op, I wonder what you will say now that a dollar is around 1600/1700 and a carton of indomie is 20,000, many foreign countries are leaving the country. You saw the future in 2020 and the truth is that it is not getting better, so more suffer ahead, so we may come back here in 2026 and say 2024 was far better. But if I may ask, are you still in Nigeria?

You think this country can be "fixed" by election? I don't even want to mention revolution because our inability to let go of our difference has made that practically impossible.

We do not just need a revolution but a thorough one that will sweep away the evil in both the government and us citizens. The best option is for this country to be divided, then we can all go home and sweep our houses our own way.
