WhatsApp is no match for BBM. BlackBerry was super innovative with BBM because it could PING, you could show your friends the music you are listening to, and there was privacy. WhatsApp is useless as far as user privacy is concerned.

What they do do is get a company - TCL to date, and a little-known company called OnwardMobility who be working with a subsidiary of Chinese mega-corp Foxconn - to manufacture future phones under some licensing agreement.
