Nigerians are so gullible, someone that have never benefited anything from Nigerian government will be complaining about govt getting loans to build infrastructures, even if they like they should embezzle it. That's what they have been doing from the onset. What did ur papa and grand pa gain from Nigeria when there was low debt? What have we achieved with oil money for the past decades? It is a shame dat a common Nigerian is in this fight. Atiku is spending the billions today that was meant for u and I to improve our living standards and u are supporting him going against the govt loans. Every country in the world has debt and for every biz that wants to expand there must be loans. Ask Dangote group of company which I believe is the biggest in the country and they will make u understand. Nothing is wrong with getting loans if the money is used judiciously. Politicians that are beating the drums of urban future will be doing their bit and u will be dancing to their tunes. All these people will never know peace (not a curse but fact). Let them get loans from aliens to build what their counterparts in crime failed to build with our enormous resources. We must get sense by force...

Finnese001:
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has made a move to stop the government of President Muhammadu Buhari from collecting more loans from China.

In doing this, the former Vice President has written Ahmed Lawan, the President of the Senate requesting the National Assembly to reject any new loan request from the Buhari government meant for “projects that are not viable.”

Atiku, in the letter to Lawan, received on August 25, urged the legislature to also halt approval for loans that are not income-generating or production-based.

The former VP and business mogul pointed out that the country risked insolvency if it continued to borrow money.

Atiku’s letter, a copy of which was made public on Monday, he noted that Nigerians should not fold their hands and watch while the country teeters towards financial peril.

The former opposition presidential candidate noted that as of May 29, 2015, the nation’s total national debt was standing approximately at N12 trillion.

He lamented that as of August 2020, Nigeria’s debt has risen to N28.63 trillion, adding that more alarming was the fact that the foreign debt portion of the country’s national debt has further risen from less than $10 billion on May 29, 2015, to almost $30 billion in August 2020.

“A further cause for concern is the fact that not all of these debts are necessary. A study of the use to which these monies have been put to will show that much of it has gone towards items or projects that are non-productive or viable,” Atiku noted.

The former Vice President noted that the future of youth and unborn generations in the country had been placed in what could very well be bondage-like conditions.

“As such, in view of your role as a check on the excesses of other arms of government, may I suggest that going forward, the National Assembly should refuse to approve any new loan requests, where such loans are to be spent on projects or items that are not income-generating or production-based, or indeed viable,” he said.

Atiku you're a wasting your precious time because the Senate president was handpicked by the PMB. He's there to do his bidding, just there to approve and agree to anything PMB says, whether he understands it or not

Gerrarahia. China loans are paid directly to the contractor (whom happen to be Chinese),executing the projects they are earmarked for, while Nigeria pays a small fraction as its own counterpart funding. Some of you are so ignorant of facts of the subject matter but politics has messed up your minds. Na una sabi.

Guy, we are not fighting.
What I'm trying to tell you is that you can't compare America debt to China to Nigeria, they are different.
America owes China $1.1 trillion but this is not in real money terms. This means that China has bought US treasury bonds equivalent to that amount. It is not only China, majority of the countries buy US dollar denominated bonds because it is seen as one of the most safest currencies in the world.
China can decide today to sell off its US bonds (and others will buy it )to get back their money but they can't because it will also affect them as the reason for buying is to hedge the yuan against the dollar and keep it artificially low to make their export cheaper.
However the situation of Nigeria is different. China is not buying any naira denominated treasury bond from Nigeria rather they are giving Nigeria raw money which is then paid to Chinese contractors (clever move by the Chinese). So at the end, we are going to pay back this monies in Dollars not Naira or yuan despite that China enjoyed the greater part of the money through their contractors.
So America and Nigeria as regards to Chinese debts are different things. I'm explaining this especially for people who hear America owes China and use it as a justification for Nigeria to drown in debt to China.

The same Amechi that led the NGF to force the government of GEJ to share the moni in our excess crude account by court order is not who Nigerians should be listening to on collecting international loans. But just like many were carried away by the Sai baba chants then, many are still foolishly being carried away by railway lines that haven’t affected our transportation system. Those that don't want the loans for deve make dem allow the rest wey wan collet am collet am. Debt is a viable instrument of financing as long as it is used for what it is meant for. Every big corporation and billionaire has taken on debt. Your business can never expand and grow exponentially without debt. So they should keep borrowing ? is that your point ? Or u did not read through to see the total debt ur buhari has borrowed b4 ?

Corruption: The US Senate report that finally nailed Atiku Abubakar

has received a report on how Atiku was the subject of a probe ten years ago, by a United States Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Senator Carl Levin.

The report detailed how Atiku Abubakar while still the vice president of Nigeria between 2000 and 2008, used offshore companies to siphon millions of dollars to his fourth wife in the United States, Jennifer Douglas.

Specifically, the report said Jennifer Douglas, an American citizen, helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States through wire transfers sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts.

In 2004, the then President Bush barred Atiku and other corrupt politically exposed persons from being issued visa to the United States.

It's funny when hypocrites, crooks, looters and corrupt elements responsible for the mess we are in today try to play holy holy.

All the funds you and your corrupt gangs looted put us in this borrowing situation.

We borrowed to build Lagos Ibadan railway, but the money the PDP, Jona and Okonjo looted and gave to Dasuki ATM to share with the likes of FFK, Metuh, Fayose and others was enough to build 2 Lagos Ibadan railway without borrowing 1 kobo.

You were a common customs officer and a civil servant, but all of a sudden, you are a billionaire and you swallowed more billions after privatizing and selling FG infrastructures to yourself and your cronies.

This clown should be in jail, but he's not because Nigeria is a lawless countries where crooks like him walk around and throw his loot in our faces.

Just imagine, a whole VP getting banned from vising the US because of corruption.

But do you support buhari's everyday borrowing
. I support borrowing for infrastructural development.. Borrowing to go to school or self development is different from borrowing to go to club.. I believe I should not explain that to you.. The intention is important and president buhari has show his borrowing is different from all the other president who borrowed for owambe instead of meaningful infrastructure..

I thought most ibo claim to be business minded.. I am Igbo and I know Tha 99% of ibos borrow in their business. Even if it means going to another shopping taking a goods sell and bring back money bro that is all borrowing.. Now because of hatred and bitterness you are blinding shouting borrowing borrowing is bad when tomorrow you will still go to borrow.

Lol. You are such a dullard. You are comparing Dangote and Atiku owing mostly local creditors to a country owing another country.

In case you don't know, Chinese loans carry an agreement. Its called debt diplomacy. It means that china loans lots of monies to developing countries. If the countries can't repay the loans within a stipulated period, they will take over the infrastructure built with such loans (or take any infrastructure in the country) whether be it an airport, port, railway lines etc and the Chinese will be managing it. Imagine china operatong and managing Muritala international airport because Nigeria can't repay monies borrowed.

This is totally unfair and barbaric.

one can never satisfy some set of people in this country if you don't do anything they will complain.if you do they will still complain. just imagine,FG obtained loan to fund key infrastructural project in the country they are complaining not that this project are not visible in the eyes or they're audio projects, no matter the terms that comes with loan we should have the mindset of paying back the money and not complaining about one sovereign wealth that we're not benefiting from.

This project directly or indirectly has provided jobs for Nigerians and would also ease the movement of goods in the country plus other value it will add to the country economy.

I support buhari to keep borrowing to fund infrastructural projects if y'all like complain from now till tomorrow nothing will change

You are the bigger fool. Why can I not compare is Dangote and atiku not running businesses? What Nigeria and China are doing is not business? Is there anywhere in the world where you take a loan and default without repercussion? Is America not taking loan from China? Is that kinda agreement not exist between banks and Dangote and atiku? Even in small idumota ndiigbo run their business do your loan and default? What do you think will happen if you don't pay? Only fraudster/pdp urchin are against this loans, because they are used government taking and squandering without repaying.. If you are deaf Nigeria has started repaying thiese loans already.. So what we need is a consistent president like Buhari..and we will repay.. Loans are part of business no Richman or successful business has made it without loans also no successful 1st World country is without debt.. So stop displaying your grand ignorance.. GRAND Fool.. Your Foolishness is precedes You.. You try to form smart but stupidity overshadows you.. Is China not in debt? Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan also collected loan from China to execute projects in the country.

In an interview with Channels TV, Amaechi said the loan being referred to by the PDP chieftain was actually taken by ex-President Jonathan.

He said: “There’s a gentleman who went to AIT, and said ‘oh I should resign’ and I wonder which university he graduated from, certainly not University of Port Harcourt,”

“He said I should resign. Resign from what? Are you saying those projects weren’t executed? Is there no Kaduna-Abuja railway?

“By the way, he said he is PDP; that loan was taken under President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.

“The loan he’s talking about — the Kaduna-Abuja railway — was signed by the President Goodluck Jonathan government.

“Don’t forget that we told the whole world when commissioning that project, that 80 percent of that project was executed by President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.

“The loan was taken by President Goodluck Jonathan’s government, and for that reason we had to name the train station and infrastructure in Agbor after President Goodluck Jonathan’s government for that laudable achievement.”
